Dear Parents &/or Guardians,

Happy New Years and welcome back from Winter Break! I hope that everyone had a good holiday season. It is such a wonderful time of year to spend with friends and family. I’m excited that all of the students returned safely to school and are ready to start learning again.

It is the time of year when we are preparing for standardized testing. Your student may be involved in NWEA testing (K-5th grade), IREAD-3 (3rd grade), or ISTEP+ (3rd

-5th grade). Teachers will be communicating home how parents can best sup-port their child in the classroom. Some easy at-home ways to help your student succeed are spending time reading with them each evening and making sure they are getting a full night’s sleep.

The weather has started to turn cold. Please make sure your student comes pre-pared to school each day with a hat, gloves, and a coat. Even as the weather gets cold the scholars will still have outdoor recess. It is important to us the students have an opportunity to get fresh air and exercise on a daily basis. Only when tem-peratures reaches below 20 degrees will the grade levels start having indoor re-cess.

Deer Run Elementary School has a lot of special events planned during the next couple of months. Keep an eye out for information being sent home with your child!

Finally, we appreciate all of the support and involvement in your child’s educa-tion. Thank you for everything you do at home.

Sincerely,

Mr. Elmore
