Ifyourchildhasagenuineinjuryandisreturningfromrehabilitation-afterconsultationwithasurgeonorphysio-tapingwillbeprovidedasneededoraspermedicaladvice.Thisshouldnotbecomearegular“crutch”forthechild,andtheyshouldinsteadfocusonbetterstrength,mobilityandagilityfortheinjuredsiteorarea. Ifyourchildsuffersfromregularsoreness,itwillbeadvisedthatyourchildgetscheckedoutbyaprofessional.Yourchildcouldbeplayingtoomuchsportandrequiressomerestandthismaybethebodys’wayoftellingthem. Tapeisexpensiveandwillbeusedwhenrequired,notforI'mabitsore,itlookscool,etc. MostofourseniorplayerswouldprefertouseNOtapeastheydon'tlikethefeelofit,butduetoseriousinjuriestheyrequireit(manyhavehadops). DeepHeat: Shouldnotbeusedonyoungathletes.Iftheythinktheyrequireit,avisittotheirdoctorwillberecommendedandwritteninstructionsfromthatdoctorwillberequired.MostyoungathletesdoTOOLITTLEstretching.Stretchingshouldbedonetwicedailyoratleastdaily,aspartoftheirregularactivitiestopreparethemforagameorsport.Warmingupthemuscleswithactivestretchingongamedaywillalsobenefitanyathleteandmakethemresponsiblefortheirownbodies.Wehavestretchingrollers,bandsandleafletsinthechangeroomsonstretchingthattheycanuse. Concussion: Anychildsuspectedofhavingconcussionwillberemovedfromplayandnotallowedtoreturnfortheremainderofthatgame.Theplayerwillmissthenextweekendgameandcanreturntotrainingthefollowingweek,providedthattheyhavebeenclearedbyaDr. AMedicalcertificatewillhavetobeshowntoteamtrainerbeforereturningtotraining. Yourchildshouldnotreturntoschooluntilsymptomfreeandshouldavoidelectronics. 90%ofconcussionstake10daystorecover. PleaseRemember:ourtrainersareheretohelp,wearenotDoctorsandwillmakedecisionsinthebestinterestoftheathlete.


Medical Information:

Concussion: Any player suspected of having concussion will be removed from play and assessed.

U17.5’s: any player suspected of having concussion will not return to play and will not play the following weekend. They may resume training the following week (approx 10 days post incident) provided they are medically cleared by a Dr.

General Rehabilitation Guidelines:

Step 1: First 72 Hours: R.I.C.E.R and NO H.A.R.M

• Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, Referral • NO – Heat, Alcohol, Running, Massage

Step 2: Stretching, Strengthening

Step 3: Sport-Specific Exercises

Step 4: Training

Step 5: Return to Game
