During Advent, we take four weeks to prepare for the birth of Jesus. The colours of Advent are purple and pink. One of the traditions of Advent is the Advent wreath.
The Advent wreath contains four candles: three purple and one pink. One candle is lit at the start of each week of Advent. The themes for each week are: 1st week of Advent: Hope (purple candle) 2nd week of Advent: Love (purple candle) 3rd week of Advent: Joy (pink candle) 4th week of Advent: Peace (purple candle)
The Meaning Behind the Candy Cane
Hard Candy: Reminds us that Jesus is like a
“rock,” dependable.
White Candy: Stands for Jesus as the holy,
sinless Son of God.
The letter “J”: Is for the Name of Jesus, our Savior.
Cane: Is like the staff used by the shepherds in caring for
sheep. Jesus is our “Good Shepherd.”
The Color Red: Is for God’s love that sent Jesus to give
his life for us on the cross.
The Stripes: Remind us of Jesus’ suffering-his crown of
thorns, the wounds in his hands and feet; and the cross
on which he died.
During this time when stores are busy selling us
Christmas gifts, we pray that Advent and
Christmas bring your families those gifts that
money cannot buy: peace, love, joy, and hope.
On behalf of the staff of Sacred Heart Catholic
School IB PYP Candidate School, have a Blessed
Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Christmas Concert Our Christmas concert will take place on
Thursday, December 14, 2016 at 1:45 pm and

Stage 1:
New Catholic students residing within the Sacred Heart Catholic School, Guelph boundary not currently enrolled at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Guelph.
Stage 2:

on school capacity and class size regulations.
Should the enrolment cap not be exceeded, a random
selection process will be initiated beginning with

parents/guardians will be informed of their
child's/children's registration status and any next
steps via email by Friday, February 23, 2018. The

of a third-party scrutineer to maintain process
integrity and transparency.
Sacred Heart Church
On November 26, our students who are preparing for the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation, participated in a Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. We pray for all our students during their preparation. Confirmation will take place in February and First Communion in April. Thank you to Ms. Stradiotto’s Grade 3 class for their leadership with our November school Mass. Our school Mass in December will be on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 and will be led by Ms. Bochenek’s and Ms. Franchetto’s Kindergarten class.

Celebrations Thank you to Owens Corning for sponsoring the Guelph Storm Hockey Ticket program for our school! Students who received tickets in November and early December are:
Emma-Lynn (K1), Gwen (Gr. 7), Alex and Nathan (Gr. 8), Bryce (Social Justice) and Isabelle Walser (choir).
Sacred Heart Guelph Catholic School Council Fundraising Update: Thank you for supporting our Professor Jamz Dance-a-thon. Once again, this fundraiser was a big success. Our students had a blast dancing in the school gym and we raised $3,100 for our school! This money will be used to pay for special programs such as Scientists in School, subsidize field trips, purchase new gym/recess equipment and much more. Upcoming Events: The Catholic School Council will be hosting our annual student pasta lunch on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 to celebrate the beginning of Advent. There is no cost to students for the lunch, however we are asking for donations of new socks for homeless youth in Guelph. Socks will be collected over the next two weeks and dropped off at Wyndham House on Friday, December 15th. Thank you for your support. Stay Connected: Remember to check out the Parent link on the school website for CSC meeting minutes and to keep up-to-date on school events. Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19th at 6:30 pm in the school library. New faces are always welcome. As we begin the final month of 2017 and enter the season of Advent, we would like to wish you love, peace and joy this holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Rina Galifi, CSC Chair

This year, instead of purchasing a gift, honour your teacher with a donation to the Children's Foundation's Food & Friends program. The Children's Foundation would be pleased to provide the individual(s) with a card to notify them that you have made the donation in honour of them for this holiday season. Go to Children's Foundation Donation Link to make your donation today. Thank you for bringing healthy food to hungry minds! If you have any questions or concerns about our

Tools for Life Tools for Life is a conflict resolution program that teaches students to identify the body clues in themselves and others that may indicate conflict and teaches strategies to solve problems with others. In November, we reviewed the following tools during morning announcements:
Ignore (ear muffs) - Ignore when someone is being silly and distracting you from work.
Walk Away (footprints) - Walk
away from situations in which you
may make a poor choice or get into
trouble.
Sharing and Taking Turns (crayons/markers) - There are many things in life that we can share in order to solve conflicts
