Dear Parents / Guardians and Carers

Thank you again for your ongoing support as we continue to work together to maintain the health and safety of our school community during these challenging and uncertain times. Behind the scenes we are doing our upmost to prepare for remote learning in the eventuality that this happens next term. The staff are using these four days to further upskill themselves in using Compass and Seesaw to ensure that your children will still have teaching and learning happening for them if this happens. Compass is our communication tool and all messages and updates will come to you via it. We have also created a private Marnebek School Facebook “Marnebek School Official” which we would love you to join. This is another way we can stay connected.

Therapy packs have also been created with activities that you can do with your children as well as agency support links. This pack will be uploaded to seesaw as well as packs being delivered to your homes. Seesaw is our teaching and learning app and from next term on, students will be able to access lessons, teaching videos, etc. from there along with the worksheets we have already sent home. More information will be given to you once we know if this will happen. Seesaw will also give you the option to upload work for your teacher to see, comment and assess it. You can find further information and resources at the following site: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/learning/Pages/home-learning.aspx

I also wish to take this opportunity to commend the teaching staff of Marnebek School for their dedication in ensuring that we continue to support you and our students in the months ahead. Term 2 will commence on Wednesday 15 April. Kind regards

Jennifer Hamilton

Students from our Junior School were lucky enough to be visited by members of our local CFA.

Students learnt the importance of calling ‘000’ for the support of emergency services. They

learnt about personal protection equipment and practiced keeping low in the event of a fire.

Students also got to explore the fire engine, and have a turn squirting the hose. It was a great

experience that our students truly valued. Thanks once again to the CFA for allowing our

students to be immersed in this experience.

JUNIOR SCHOOL

Students from our BER building held an Inquiry topic ‘Community Helpers’

play date, and invited members of our leadership team to join them as they

practiced grocery shopping, writing and posting letters, visiting the doctor

and visiting the fire station. Highlights included handwritten letters and

invitations from the students and baby dolls being treated by our student

doctors for upset tummies. It was a great learning experience, which

demonstrated some substantive learning growth in our students.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

It has been a fantastic term 1 for middle school, with all students starting the year positively. Students have been

working hard in their classrooms along with participating in a number of exciting and engaging options. Some of

those include:

Swimming

Several middle school classes have participated in swimming this term. They have been learning about water safety

and the importance of staying safe around different water scenarios such as the beach, pools and other waterways.

Student have also been learning various swimming strokes such torpedo, backstroke and breaststroke.

Harmony Day

On Friday 20th we held Harmony Day in recognition of the many cultures we have at Marnebek. Students were

encouraged to dress in their traditional dress or wear orange in recognition of our diverse community. Students

were asked to bring a gold coin in which we raised $350 to go towards curriculum resources.

Middle School were also very lucky to be involved in two incursions relating to Harmony Day:

Indigenous Cultural Awareness

On Monday 16th March, we had a Cultural Infusion visit and provide some exciting activities and students were able

to participate in aboriginal dance, drawing, storytelling and other various cultural experiences. Students embraced

the day, some even had the opportunity to apply traditional indigenous face painting.

Japanese Drumming

On Wednesday 18th March, Japanese drumming group Taiko Drumming came to Marnebek demonstrating

traditional drumming within the Japanese culture. Students were treated to performances and were also able to

participate in playing the drums and experience firsthand the beautiful sound the traditional drums made.

Assemblies

A highlight of the term has been the start-up of Middle School assembly. Students are able to take ownership and

celebrate all their fantastic work and achievements. Students sing the anthem with pride, recite ‘Welcome to

Country’ and hand out certificates acknowledging each other’s successes.

Overall, it has been a very successful term and I commend all staff and students for their hard work. Have a fantastic

holiday break, stay safe and we’ll see you in term 2.
