GIRLS LEAGUE TAG On Wednesday the 25th of May, sixteen Girls League Tag students travelled to Bathurst to play in the Opens Country Cup League Tag Competition. The girls were nervous and excited about the proposition ahead of them with some selective music on the trip getting them into the right headspace for the competition. It worked. The girls were on fire playing Cowra High and dominating 3 tries to 1. Georgia scored 2 and Paige scored a memorable try in the corner where she was horizontal for about 5 seconds during her dive. In the next game they took on an extremely speedy Orange High. The girls only required a draw to win their pool and play off in the final. True to the Blayney High spirit our girls gave it their all but were beaten 4 - 0 with Orange scoring with 2 minutes to go. Our girls continued to finish stronger and make a break in the last minutes but unfortunately Cleo Dickie was ankle tapped from behind. In the 3rd vs 4th playoff we went up against Kelso High and we experimented with the side to ensure even playing time. Georgia and Karlee both scored which finished off a fantastic day. Orange High were the eventual winners which was a credit to our teams results. Throughout the games Holly Hopkins tagged like a demon, with Caitlyn McDonald adding some pizazz to dummy half when coming on. Holly Uhr and Georgia Calub led the forwards well and linked beautifully with the junior contingent of Abbie Uhr and Imogen Drinkwater. Holly Farr and Naomi Anderson were solid when coming on while Zoe Brownett and Karlee Funnell were always dangerous in attack. Sarah Colman directed the team and kicked well while Grace Hodder, Paige Selten, Cleo Dickie and Abby Stammers were both solid in attack and defence. Chelsea Hamer was dedicated when on but suffered an injury early in game 1. With none of the girls in Year 12 they will have the opportunity to go one step further and play in a final next year. Well done!!!

HOSPITALITY SKILL SET TRAINING – OPEN DOORS TO IMMEDIATE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES TAFE Orange are having an information evening on Tuesday, 26 July 2016 at 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm to give you all the relevant information and treat you to even-ing of canapes and drinks at Orange TAFE College – an invitation will follow shortly. JUNIOR VOLLEYBALL SUCCESS Last Friday 40 students from year 7 -10 travelled to Bathurst to play Volleyball against teams from Bathurst and Kelso High. The majority of the students were playing volleyball for the first time against some experienced Kelso teams.

Blayney teams consisted of Year 9/10 boys, Year 9 girls, Year 8 girls, year 7 boys and two year 7 girls’ teams.

Each team played in a round robin event with the team gaining the most competition points deemed the winners. The year 8 girls won their event only losing one of seven games. The year 7 girls who progressed a great deal throughout the day played off for first and second place in the final game of the day.

The year 9 girls played some very tough games winning a number of sets, but were unable to win a game throughout the day, despite taking a number of games to the third set.

The year 9/10 boys consisted of only 2 boys who had played at this level and were up against very experienced Kelso players many of whom were in the Western Region Champion side. The boys improved throughout the day and were competitive in many sets.

Blayney has a long and successful history in Volleyball and it is great to see the tradition will continue for quite a few years. Thanks to all students who attended the day for their outstanding conduct and sportsmanship.

SPORTS UPDATE TERM 2 WEEK 8 The weather may be cooling down, but the sport is heating up with a number of Western Regional Trials to take place in the coming weeks and there will be plenty of Blayney High students right in the thick of the action. The Western Cross Country will be held in Geurie on Wednesday 15th June with a number of Blayney High students nominating during the week.

A number of students have also qualified for the upcoming WSSA Athletics Carnival (Friday 29th July – Term 3 Week 2). The registrations for these trials have closed, thank you to those students who have confirmed their entries this week, permission and information notes will be distributed in the coming days.

Well done to all students on your sporting efforts and achievements. We love to hear about all your sporting experiences and successes at school, keep letting us know!

STAGE 6 CROSSROADS Year 11 and 12 students travelled to Sydney during week 6 for the three day Crossroads – Sydney Experience Excursion. It was a fantastic three days jam packed with activities including Taronga Zoo, State of Origin, Q Station Ghost tour, a visit to Bondi Beach and a lot of walking.

Some comments from the students tell the story of our Sydney Experience.

“I have never had so much fun and at the same time so many fights with my friends 10/10”

“The Amazing Race was the best part – sore feet though”

“Blisters everywhere … worth it though”

“Best excursion ever, was so much fun loved every bit of it”

“I wasn’t a believer till the ghost tour”

“Even though the ref only had one eye the footy was fabulous”

“Best excursion and after three days with sore feet, I now know how to not get lost in Sydney”

Thanks to the students who attended for their outstanding behavior and the way they embraced every activity. Thanks also to Mrs Dean, Mr Berry and Mr Browett for their help and support. This will definitely go down as one of the best excursions I have attended.

YOUTH FRONTIERS MENTORING PROGRAM Will be running in Term 2 and 3 of this year at Blayney High School. The program involves students meeting with local community members each week for mentoring. As part of the program students are encouraged to initiate a community program with their mentor. One student has indicated they wish to raise awareness of Mental Health issues in the community and as part of that have put together a survey that they were hoping parents could complete and return to school.
