The Principal writes …… Thank you to Year 11 students and their parents for attending the College VI Open Evening this week. I hope that the discussions with subject teachers and current College VI students have supported students in making choices about post-16 options. Should students require any further advice before making their application, they should speak with their Tutor. A reminder that the deadline for applications from Year 11 students already at Riddlesdown Collegiate is Friday 10th November 2017 and all applications should be made through our website. After this date, students will be invited to a Guidance Interview with a senior member of staff later in the term. Parents of Year 11 students have also been invited to the GCSE Preparation Evening next Wednesday, 18th October 2017 at 6.00pm. At this event, we will be sharing with parents advice on how they might best support students in this crucial year by introducing them to a range of learning and revision strategies. This event has been popular and valued in previous years and I hope will be again. To confirm your attendance, please email [email protected]. This event is deliberately a few weeks before Year 11 students begin their Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs) on 20th November 2017 (further details will follow). Further to my comments last week, parents should have received today a letter about a vacancy for a Parent Governor on the Local Governing Body. Please do give this some thought if it something you might be interested in; I look forward to receiving applications by noon Friday 20th October 2017. As Year 7 students come towards the end of their first half term at the Collegiate, there are two particular events for them next week: Meet the Tutor sessions and our annual Choir of the Year competition. On Monday, Year 7 Tutors are looking forward to seeing parents for individual appointments to give them some brief feedback on how their child has settled in. And then students will be singing to win the coveted Choir of the Year trophy on Friday afternoon! Finally, parents may have noticed that performance tables based on examination results in 2017 have now been published on the DfE website. I am delighted that they confirm the very strong outcomes that we celebrated this summer and that they include further information on progress that we are similarly very proud of. Our Progress 8 score of +0.35 indicates that students at the Collegiate made more progress on average than others and the analysis of this shows that it was strong across the ability range, meaning that all groups of students performed very well, irrespective of their starting points. This gives us greater confidence going forwards and we look forward to improving this further in the coming year.

Warhol Croydon Ruby Collins 7GBT is proving to be an ambitious and creative art student. She enjoyed
creating screen prints with her younger siblings at 'Warhol Croydon'. This event offered free
walking tours, exhibitions and workshops throughout September. Ruby has commented, "It was
really fun and interesting. My sisters loved it too. I can't wait to do something like this again."
The art team encourage students to follow Ruby's lead and take advantage of all the
extra-curricular opportunities which are currently posted on show my homework. Get out there,
enjoy and spread the word!

Careers Fair On 8th November 2017, Riddlesdown Collegiate will host the Annual Careers Fair in partnership
with Woodcote High School and Oasis Academy Coulson. This year the Event will take place at
Riddlesdown in the main hall from 5.00 pm – 7.30pm.
Students and parents will have the opportunity to informally talk to employers from a wide range of
sectors as well as further and higher education providers, gap year companies and careers
advisors and coaches.
Some of the employers have indicated their ability to take on students for work experience, as well
as discuss apprenticeships in their field, so it is an excellent chance to network with people in the
local business community.

Litter pick
Well done to Angel Kearney, Holly Lloyd 9MLH and Shreya Krishnan 9GEC for their commitment
to the environment in taking part in a litter pick in the field. The amount of rubbish collected in just
20 minutes was astonishing.
If you use the footpaths in the fields stick to the paths and do not drop your litter.
The crops will be used as animal foodstuff and you wouldn’t want to be responsible for an animal’s
illness or death due to them eating rubbish. DON’T DROP LITTER!

World Homeless Day In recognition of World Homeless Day, Riddlesdown students are raising money for the charity
Crisis.
By making origami boxes and filling them with change, hopefully we can help Crisis in their aim to
eliminate homelessness in Croydon. Once your boxes are full, please ensure that they find their
way to room P09 where Mr Bell is collecting. Many thanks for your support.
