Weekly Newsletter for The Salvation ARmy FloreatTRANSCRIPT
Last weekend was a great weekend
where we celebrated the covenant
making and enrolment as Soldiers of
The Salvation Army of Ben, Andrew
and Stephen.
I was reminded as we went through
these services by God of the value
we place on what He says. The ques-
tion that came to mind was,
I love it when this happens because
God is not looking for an answer - He
already knows the truth - He is look-
ing for a response. God is looking for
me to respond to that belief. I can
say until I am blue in the
face. I am revealed for the trueness
of my convictions when I am faced
with a situation that is so much big-
ger than me. My response will indi-
cate the level of my faith in Him.
Now, before I go any further - If you
have gone through an issue and felt
like you have dropped the belief ball,
don’t condemn yourself, there are
enough people who can do that job
better than you, you don’t need to
add your voice to the choir of con-
demnation. Instead make confession
to God and ask Him to increase your

James 1:2-8 (NLT) says this: In
verse 2
I can tell now
that you are all going to get on
your knees tonight and pray to
God for some trouble, right? Of
course not. None of us want
trouble but we have to look at it
differently. A great way to have
victory over your issue is to see
it as a stepping stone to
growth. James goes on to say in
the next couple of verses that
when the faith is tested it gives
you a chance to grow. James
then goes on to link this trouble
stuff to wisdom. Read what it
says:“
This is where the rubber hits the
road. James is saying, “If you
have been saying that God is
great and that He can do all
things, then ask in a manner
that
You have to believe that
you already have the answer,
you have to ask believing you
already have the victory. If you
walk around whining and dining
on ‘woe is me’ then you don’t
believe you have the answer or
the victory. You have to let your
mouth and your face know that
with God all things are possible.
You say, this is just unrealistic, I
say don’t knock it until you've
tried it. This is the difference
between Godly faith and worldly
faith.
James goes onto say;
Cool huh, at least for those who
believe. God is saying believe
and expect your answer, expect
your victory.

We often say to ourselves how
fortunate we are to live in Australia
and this alone gives us many things
to thank God for. However, we are
surrounded in this world by many
Christians who are not as fortunate
as us and this is why we encourage
you to pray for them, this is why we
encourage you to give generously
for the Self denial Appeal. We also
would like to keep you aware of what
is happening in the world.
We must continue to be aware of
the threats to our brothers and
sisters in other countries who do
not share the same freedoms that
we do.
Below is a report from CBN on the
plight of Nigerian Christians who
right at this very moment are being
murdered in a most brutal fashion
all because they believe in Jesus.

2010/March/Nigerians-Urged-to-
Stop-Religious-Violence/
Nigerian Christians are asking
their government to protect
them as violence continues,
while the U.S. and human
rights activists call on the
country to investigate recent
deadly attacks on Christian
villages.
Hundreds were killed in an
attack on Christian villages
near the city of Jos this week.
The Red Cross said the
attacks were part of a cycle of
sectarian violence.
"After the January killings, the
villages should have been
properly protected," U.N. High
Commissioner for Human
Rights Navi Pillay said. "Clearly,
previous efforts to tackle the
underlying causes have been
inadequate, and in the
meantime the wounds have
festered and grown deeper."
John Hassan of the Anglican
Church in Jos told CBN News
that Muslim leaders want to
drive Christians from the area.
"They are calling for a genocide
in plateau state," Hassan said.
"They were calling for
Muslims to come together
and launch an attack on
plateau on the Christians
because they felt that
plateau state, which is a
predominantly Christian
state, did belong to them
and therefore they see no
reason why they can't flush
out the Christians as the
infidels and take over the
state."
Hassan said the military
does not always protect
Christians because the
troops sympathize with
the Muslims

Please help us seek
tougher action on child
pornography.
The WA government is
acting to give children
stronger protection
through the introduction of
the "Child Exploitation
Material and Classification
Legislation Amendment Bill
2009". The Bill would
prohibit a wider range of
material involving the
exploitation of children,
child pornography and
cruelty to children.
However, the Bill could be
significantly improved by
making two changes:
1. In the definition of
‘child’, the age should be
increased from 16 to 18
years.
2. The 'literary' or 'artistic'
merit defence for child
pornography should be
removed.

Open Letter to Western Australia Premier Colin Barnett
Please get tougher on child pornography
Dear Premier,
I welcome the move to give children stronger protection through the introduction of theChild Exploitation Material and Classification Legislation Amendment Bill 2009. Particularlywelcome is the proposed prohibition of a wider range of material involving the exploitation ofchildren, child pornography and cruelty to children.
However, the Bill could be significantly improved by making two changes.
1. In the definition of ‘child’, increase the age from 16 to 18 years
The definition of “child” in the Bill, currently only “a person under 16 years of age”, should bechanged to “a person under 18 years of age”.
The age of 18 years is used for child pornography offences in the Commonwealth, Victoria,Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. This age is also usedin the national classification scheme for films and publications when material involvingoffensive depictions of persons under 18 is Refused Classification.
The age of persons covered by child pornography offences should be higher than the age ofconsent (16) because child pornography involves the exploitation of children, often forcommercial purposes, usually by older males. This is like child prostitution and child sexualservitude. For these offences a child is defined as anyone under 18.
A pornographic picture of a 16 or 17 year old girl could be circulated to thousands of men andcould remain on the internet for years. Girls and boys in this age range need theprotection of the law from exploitation by older adults.
2. Remove the literary or artistic merit defence for child pornography
The Bill currently allows a defence against child pornography offences by an appeal to the“literary” or “artistic” merit of the material. The corresponding Commonwealth andVictorian offences do not allow for this defence and an inquiry has recently recommended thatthe defence be abolished in NSW law.
The existence of the defence of artistic or literary merit for child pornography suggests thatsuch pornography is acceptable if the material is sufficiently artistic or literary. I do notaccept that art or literature can be a valid excuse for child pornography.
Premier, please help protect our children from child pornographers.
Yours sincerely,
