2016 Ministry Opportunity continues: Bad Weather Shelter (BWS) is weather activated

until the end of March because of El Niño

El Niño has affected many, including the homeless. In response, the BWS will be weather activated through March 31, a whole month longer than originally planned, and so the opportunity to serve continues.

Each night we need 12 volunteers to help anytime

from 6:15-9:00pm, so even if you need to arrive late or

need to leave early, there will be opportunities for you

to help (the 12 volunteers can be a group, family, and/

or individuals). Trained, professional staff will be on

site to help direct volunteers.

For those who are unable to volunteer to man the shelter at night, you can still help by:

donating cooked food (info on what is needed will be provided)

making “food runs” for last minute items, such as salad, rolls or dessert (info on what is needed will be provided and you will be reimbursed).

To help or for more info, contact Wayne Walker at (626) 429-5120 or [email protected] (on the subject line put: BWS) or contact Vikki Randall at [email protected].

Cross-Cultural Communication Specialist

Tim Hsieh, a member of Pasadena Covenant and a cross-cultural specialist supported by our church, served with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in Southern California before being transferred to the Pacific Northwest. He will preach in our worship service on February 21st.

Journey IN the Promised Land: We’re here!!!

God's Big Welcome

Sunday Mornings at 10:30am

We've arrived!!! Last year we studied the Journey TO the promised land—stories from the Old Testament of how God led his people. Now the excitement begins: we've arrived in the Promised Land, and JESUS is here! The staff & kids are eager and ready to begin our Journey IN the Promised Land: Jesus Welcomes Us. In February we will begin laying the foundation for the heartbeat of the story: the purpose and meaning of Jesus' atoning death & resurrection.

Mighty Memorizers

Mighty Memorizers is a program to encourage kids to learn one memory verse per month, related to their Sunday School lessons. At the end of the year we will honor our memorizers in a big celebration. Our February memory verse is: "Jesus asked, 'Who do you say I am'" Peter answered, 'you are the Christ.'" –Mark 8:39. Take time to discuss the verse as a family and what it means. Challenge the whole family to learn this important message together. Kids can recite their verse to any of their Sunday School group leaders any time throughout the month.

Soupcan Offering for Covenant World Relief

Bring Banks to Church Sun., Mar. 20th Pascov Kids will participate in February & March in a “soupcan offering” for Covenant World Relief, the humanitarian aid ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Through the offering, kids will have an opportunity to learn about global needs, and understand how they can partner with others to meet those needs. The goal is to “participate in God’s transforming mission in the world… love, serve, and work together with the poor, the powerless, and the marginalized.” Calendars will be available in the children's classrooms with daily activities your family can do together to help understand global needs and pray for those we are helping.

Return banks to church Palm Sun., Mar. 20th.

This month is a Novum of sorts. A new thing emerges from old forms. I site the 'new' Star Wars film, certainly new and yet deeply connected to what has come before. When you write poems

something similar takes place, there is a form while at the same time all sorts of room to explore.

And so January and the month of February we will focus our attentions to the distinct kind of newness we find in Jesus, John's gospel is the form our lives the room to explore.

These are the words we are focusing on the next several weeks, please be encouraged to pray these words, think hard about what they mean for our group and yourself, Jesus is:

Bread. Good. Light. Open. Love. Vine. Way. Life.

For more information about upcoming events, please contact our Pastor for Youth Ministries, Dave Rinker, at [email protected].

Journey to the Cross 2016

Special Lenten Program for Gradeschoolers at 9:00 & 10:30

Beginning Feb. 21st

During Lent, Gradeschoolers will participate in a special program to dig deep into six key stories

from the last week of Jesus life. During their regular Logosland program at 10:30, the kids will

explore these biblical accounts thru art, music, prayer, and journaling. At 9:00 Richard Parsekian

and Anna Wiskerchen will lead the kids in creating a special art project to respond to the stories.

The art piece will be displayed in the sanctuary narthex (lobby) on Easter Sunday.

Easter Sunday • March 27th

On Easter Sunday, our Journey to the Cross will culminate in a powerful way as the kids

participate in six hands-on, interactive stations that walk them through the events and meaning

of Jesus' death and resurrection. Invite your friends to join you for this fun and meaningful

event. Volunteers are needed as either classroom helpers or facilitating one of the stations

(this is a great way to be a part of this fun event!). Contact Vikki Randall at

[email protected]
