Even decades on, these words hold true; words that every parent wants his offspring to pay heed to. You may teach your child all that you know about being a dynamic professional, a shrewd businessman, a ho-hum celebrity, a great scientist, but deep down in every parent's loving heart, is the prayer 'let my manling grow to be a man' - a man truly brave; brave enough to stand by his beliefs and principles and not jump onto the bandwagon of hypocrites to be a mere follower in the herd.

Our world today, is not short of super heroes, both fictional and real. Yet, human life has become pure chaos with each individual trying to assert his own rights, opinions and beliefs much like the haphazard ways of the jungle. Some take the route of music, some put pen to paper and most others resort to violence. Cussing gives vent to a world trying to prove a point. We have indeed become a race intolerable of each other and of people building walls around their little communities each demanding, but seldom adjusting.

Initiation of a reform that is structured on compassion, seeking the betterment of others, takes a great deal of courage. Standing up for the good of the common people, with no hidden motives is a sign of the brave-hearted. Life's path is strewn with adversity and it indeed takes a brave heart to venture into a world fenced in by the atrocities of our day and a courteous tongue to lead others to it.

In the hope for a world that exists beyond the realms of rebellion, we look forward to the coming of a hero speaking the language of love – a hero that lies within each of us.

Mrs. Shamita Bhattacharya

“A brave heart and a courteous tongue. They shall carry thee far through the jungle, manling.” - words of advice for the man-cub Mowgli in Rudyard Kipling's much-loved classic, 'The Jungle Book'.

My dear students,

Today as you stand at the threshold of a new tomorrow, this is my advice and fervent prayer. “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” In a country, where corruption has spread its tentacles to every sphere of our lives, I want you to go out into the world and make a difference, stand up for what is right while never standing down to injustice that you see everyday. Be the beacon of light, stand tall and stand fearless. This will take tremendous amounts of courage, sometimes drawing from the very depths of your inner self, but it is this strength that will set you apart from the herd. Mahatma, Mandela. Aung San Suu Kyi and Abdul Kalam, ordinary people who became great leaders. People who chose to script their own history, who chose to take up the fight and in doing so changed the lives of millions across countries and continents. Against all odds they stood steadfast in what they believed in, fighting their battles with weapons of Truth, Equality and Justice. They were men of action, they took charge, they cared. As Mahatma said “Be the change you want to see in the world.” They were the change they wanted to see in their world.

As I bid you farewell, I wish you God speed but most of all I wish that you will truly live up to the Andrewite motto of Truth, Equality & Justice and in doing so become that Beacon of Light that our country and its people, so desperately need.

God Bless you All

Mrs. Hyacinth Emanuel
