This would amount to the funding of approximately $23 million. Our school has a compelling case seeing that we do not have fit for purpose buildings and have received no capital works funding since our opening in 1973. Some community members have expressed their frustraon that some schools have received large levels of funding across several years. I have told these members that our turn will come. On the basis of fairness and student needs, it is essenal that our turn comes very soon. On a posive note, the final recommendaons for traffic lights proposal on Heatherton Road have now been forwarded to Vic Roads for approval. The safety of our children is of paramount importance. Principals Report

The State Budget was released this week. Our Emerson modernization project did not receive any funding. While on the surface, this appears to be disappointing, it should be noted that all projects funded in this 2019 Budget were projects that were already in existence, or specifically promised, during the last State Election in 2018.

There was a strong possibility that Stage One of our Heatherton Road modernization project could have received funding for $14.1 million. Our School Council accepts the fact that no new projects were included. However, School Council will now push for Stage One and Two to be funded simultaneously as soon as possible. This would amount to the funding of approximately $23 million. Our school has a compelling case seeing that we do not have fit for purpose buildings and have received no capital works funding since our opening in 1973. Some community members have expressed their frustration that some schools have received large levels of funding across several years. I have told these members that our turn will come. On the basis of fairness and student needs, it is essential that our turn comes very soon. On a positive note, the final recommendations for traffic lights proposal on Heatherton Road have now been forwarded to Vic Roads for approval. The safety of our children is of paramount importance. I can assure all community members, that all authorities are working together to provide a solution. I will keep you informed. Singfest – The Literacy of Music We were informed yesterday that our Documentary, Singfest the Literacy of Music, has been awarded five Awards of Merit at the Accolade Global Film Festival based in La Jolla, California, USA. The five award categories were: Documentary Short, Editing, Use of Film/Video for Social Change, Viewer Impact: Motivational/ Inspirational, Sound Editing/ Sound Mixing. We were also informed that Singfest has been nominated for The Madrid International Film Festival in Spain that will be held in August of this year.

I would like to congratulate our Producer-Director, Amel Tresnjic for the continuing recognition that he is receiving. He thoroughly deserves these prestigious awards.

Curriculum Day – Friday, 7th June, 2019 I remind all students, parents and guardians that there will be no school classes on next Friday, 7th June. Buses will not be running on that day. JOHN MOONEY

INTERNET SAFETY TIPS

Use an internet filter

These can be downloaded for free, or purchased from an IT retailer. Remember that sometimes filters fail, and they can be bypassed—for example, by using the neighbour’s unsecured Wi-Fi.

Use parental controls

You may not be aware that most computers, net browsers, tablets, smartphones and gaming consoles have some level of parental control—for example, the ability to block access to certain categories of websites. These are not the default settings, so you must activate them yourself.

Reminders

*Students will not be attending school on these days.

Whole School Curriculum days for 2019 will be on Friday June 7 and Monday August 26

Value of the Week

You are a unique being. Nobody has been born who is exactly like you or who has your special combination of talents and gifts.

Creativity is the way you use your gifts to bring new things into being. It is making new music, art, having new ideas, creating

inventions, dance, solving problems in new ways; it is a process of discovery.

Creativity is sharing your gifts with others.

Our students show creativity in all classes but in particular in our music and dance classes each week. They are constantly trying

new things and exploring different ways of doing things in those classes. We can thank Lincoln Bowen, Luke Bowen, Margaret

Orr, Emma Moffat, Tristan Hope, Ashley Davies and Elizabeth Ralph for helping us all to be more creative!

Performance Date &

$10 Tickets !!!

Dear Parents/Carers, Please find attached information regarding your child’s Wakakirri performance schedule and audience ticket ordering procedures. Emerson School’s Wakakirri performance of “When I Grow Up” is on… Wednesday 14th August Frankston Arts Centre 7pm! The evening will also include items from other primary schools and an awards presentation. The concert usually concludes around 9:15pm. On this day the students will also attend a full stage and costume rehearsal at the theatre. All students will stay with school staff until the conclusion of the night’s program and will then go home with their families. The school will provide a celebratory dinner for all performers. $10 Audience Tickets! Please note that this year Emerson School is able to subsidize audience tickets. Wakakirri have priced all tickets at $36, but Emerson School is offering families the opportunity to purchase tickets at $10 only. We would love all par ticipating students have their own special people in the audience, so please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Audience tickets are limited and to give all families equal opportunity, our $10 tickets are limited to two per student. Families will have the opportunity to purchase more full price tickets directly from the venue when they become available to the public. Please note that the venue generally sells out and that most students will only have one or two family members in the audience. Please return the attached ticket order form with your payment for no more than two tickets. Ticket orders need to be returned to school by Friday 14th June. Tickets will be sent home with students closer to the performance date. Please note, that if parents wish to purchase tickets after this date they will need to order directly with Frankston Arts Centre when tickets are released to the public. These tickets will be $36 each. Please feel free to contact me at school with any questions or concerns. Kind Regards, Elizabeth Ralph Dance Education 9791 8900

Sports Report

Cross Country Update

Road Relays at Princes Park On Saturday May 25th, 11 Emerson Middle and Senior students represented the school at the Victorian All Schools Road Relays at Princes Park. The day started with a team breakfast at 7.45am at the Heatherton Road campus. The excitement was building as we made the long drive along the Eastern Freeway. One boys’ team and two girls’ teams took part in the race, with each runner completing 2.2km. Competing alongside athletes from the likes of Haileybury and Wesley, our students were not overawed. The tremendous effort of the whole team was celebrated with hot chocolates after the race! A big thank you to Ben Parker for driving the bus to and from the venue and managing our girls’ teams. We were also fortunate to have the support of Peta Murphy (Chrissy’s mother) throughout the day. The next event for Middle and Senior students is the Victorian Club Road Relays on Saturday July 6 (middle weekend of holidays) at Sandown Park. Please put this date in your diaries. More information will be provided later in the term. Chris Winter – Athletics & Cross Country Coach
