Our school did have some damage that we have been working through and we thank our school council, staff, students and their parents for giving up their time on Sunday morning to attend a working bee to clean up. We needed to act quickly so that we could ensure our school was safe for all students and staff on Monday morning. You will notice the big pine tree along the fence line of Karadoc Avenue has been cut down – it split in half and was severely damaged Friday night. We thank Ban’s Tree Services (Please refer to back of Newsletter and support Ian Ban for any tree services) for coming in so promptly on Sunday morning to deal with this tree and Terry Wright Metal Recyclers for donating time and heavy machinery to ensure the area was safe as well as loading and carting away debris. Without these two school community members we would have been in all sorts of trouble. Thanks also to Craig Thornton (our School Council President) who co-ordinated and organised this to happen. CURRICULUM DAY – PUPIL FREE DAY (no students required at school) Friday 2 nd December. Staff will be working together on curriculum writing and will be visiting primary schools to support our intentions of improving our curriculum and engagement in learning. UNIFORM WORKING PARTY I am looking at getting together a group of interested students, parents and staff to investigate choices around a possible change in uniform throughout next year as appropriate. If you are interested please contact me via email [email protected] GRAD CELEBRATIONS Students are beginning to get very excited about this opportunity and we look forward to celebrating with them and yourselves (as parents/guardians) on Thursday 1 st December. This traditionally is a great night of celebrations and a very fitting way to end 4 years of secondary schooling before moving onto Senior College, Apprentices, TAFE etc. REPORTING Staff are busy marking and ensuring that students have completed the set tasks for each of their subjects. It is really important that parents support the kids with this work by keeping an eye on the Portal and encouraging students to hand in all completed work. Some subject areas will be having exams and again I ask you to support your students by talking about exams and the need to prepare for them. We would really like to see that all kids achieve the success they deserve and that this is reflected on the report that will be written over the three weeks or so. Principal’s Report

END OF YEAR ARRANGEMENTS This year we are trying something new and we are having a flying start (7 days) Monday 5

th – Tuesday 13

th where students

will be given the opportunity to experience their classes for 2017. The timetable is almost finalised and preparation for 2017 students will work with their 2017 teachers and classmates following a timetable. They will begin some class work, find out what tasks they will be doing, books that will need to be read, subject expectations, begin setting up classroom values and norms and most importantly get to know their 2017 teachers and classmates. I expect that all students attend school during this time and “Be Part of Something Great” – preparing for future learning. Staff are working in teams to ensure that this preparation time will be engaging and will provide students with a head start to 2017 learning. There will be a day of celebrations out at Lake Cullulleraine and some activities at the Irymple Pool to conclude the school year. School officially finishes on Tuesday 20

th December.

Year 9 & 10 Cricket Report The senior cricket team ventured down to Melton last week to contest the Western Regional Cricket Final. The boys won their first game convincingly against some very tidy opposition from Monivae College. The second game against St.Joeys from Geelong was an extremely tight game and we lost on the last ball of the innings by 5 runs in controversial circumstances. Well done all members of the team who represented ISC admirably in both skill and sportsmanship. The team was: Brak Zambelli, Tom Reddy, Jezz Graham, Caleb Garraway, Locke Thornton, Nick Price, Lachlan Timms, Lochlan Lloyd and Liam Milton. Staff attending Gregor Allan and Rohan Eddie.

State Hockey Championships

Wednesday 9th 13 girls made the journey down to Melbourne to play against the state’s best in the Year 7-8 State Hockey Championships. Mrs Taylor drove the mini bus and Georgia, from the front office and Rochelle, Hannah’s mum, drove the ute. On the Thursday we all made our way to the Footscray Hockey Centre. Our first match was against Ballarat High School. These girls were good but our team work shone through. Brooklyn broke their defensives and scored the first goal of the day. Two more from Brooklyn followed and the end score was a win for

Irymple 3 to 2. Our second game was against Princess Hill who had defeated their opponent 5 nil in the first game. Our girls played their best and it showed. Our defensive wall meant that the ball was in our attack for most of the game. Princess Hill scored one goal but our girls had the upper hand and with one goal each to Hannah and Brooklyn we won this game 2 to 1. Our last pool game of the day was against Wodonga MYC. Our girls were dominating right from the first whistle will a goal within the first five minutes. The love was shared in this game with three goals to Jasmin, 2 to Stephanie and one each to Kali, Hannah and Latara. The end score 8 to 0. This final game secured us a spot in the final and we played Maribyrnong Sports Academy. Our girls had a 10min rest and then right into the final game. Our team work was up again but the other team this time had our measure. The game play was going their way for the first half and they scored 4

goals. In the second half our girls matched their game play and we

had more of the ball this game. We had a number of shots on goal but we couldn’t get any past the keeper. The end score was 4 to 0 Maribyrnong’s way. The girls were very happy with their day’s play and to come away as runners up in the state. A number of other teams commented on our game play and how friendly our team was and how well we played as a team. The girls would like to thank Georgia and Rochelle who made the trip down with us as well as the family members who were able to come down and see us play for all or part of the day. They would also like to thank Mrs Menhennett and Mr Penna who also coached and took the team to local and regional competitions as well as Mr Morrish for organising everything for the state trip. Red Cliffs Musical Society After a long 80 year history, The Red Cliffs Musical Society has decided to change its name to Musical Society Mildura. This is where you have an opportunity to make a small part of history for yourself. For many years our logo and branding has existed but never really been something that stood out as a unique identifier for our marketing and branding. We wish to change this and an opportunity exists for you to be a large part of that. WHO ARE WE: Musical Society Mildura are a vibrant group of people from all ages and backgrounds which share a love of musical theatre and exist in this region to perform to the community musicals both classic and modern. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: An image and logo which will be clearly identifiable and able to be used for all of our branding and merchandising as well as advertising. It does not have to have the words or initials of our name but should somehow identify us as a performing arts society. WHAT ARE WE OFFERING: To the person whose logo is selected we are offering a cash prize of $250 as well as public recognition of your efforts in assisting us on our social media, website and also media as part of the name launch celebrations. The Logo design would become the property of Musical Society Mildura as part of the selection of image. All non-selected images would remain the property of the artists/designers who created them. Due Date for Submissions: December 5th 2016 at 5pm. Submissions can be made to President: Donald Mayne [email protected] or PO Box 215 Mildura, 3502

FLO students make Poppies for Remembrance Day

The FLO students spent the week leading up to Remembrance Day making Poppies to sell to the teachers and students on Remembrance Day. did not perform as well as he would have liked and in fact had a much better round the

evening before the competition. He carded a nett 75 for the 18 hole stroke event.

Congratulations to James on qualifying and representing the college at the

championships. Thanks also to parent John Prictor for taking James to the

championships.

Shakespeare’s MacBeth by Robert Herold

a student version of the classic tragedy The Drama Club in conjunction with the English Department will be presenting an abridged version of Shakespeare’s MacBeth on the 31st May and 1st June 2017. Auditions start on the 21st November in the Drama Room (E9) during lunch. A Google Doc has been created for your interest on the home tag of the Production Webpage in XUNO. There are up to 30 characters to audition for. The play has been re-written by Robert T. Herold in modern prose, staying as close to the original plot and retaining the most famous of Shakespeare lines. MacBeth is the story of a brutal man and woman who lose everything in their quest for power. It is set in England and Scotland during the ‘Dark Ages’- a period when science and learning had virtually disappeared throughout Europe, superstitions were common, and life was “nasty, brutish, and short.” Please see Mr Sauer or Miss Francis in the English Department and Mrs Davis in the Drama department, if you have any questions.

We are hoping that all eligible students and their parents are able to attend on the night, as it is sure to be a night to remember. The information regarding the purchasing of tickets and times were included in the invitation letter. Any queries can be addressed to Sue McPhee in the general office, Kate Douglas, Alison Callahan, Sarah Doolan or Anne Symes.
