thSports Day, 5 February: NISV believes that sports are an

integral part of education. Keeping this in mind, various sporting events were organized for our Pre-primary students. The drill displays and different races gave an opportunity to the students to develop their self management skills and sportsman spirit.

The Annual concert of the Pre-Primary section “The

leader in me” was all about inculcating the seven habits of happy kids. Through this ballet, the students from Nursery to Grade 1 unfolded the significance of each of the seven habits which help us to lead a happy life.

The seven habits displayed were:

Being proactive,

Beginning with the end in mind,

Putting first things first

Thinking ‘win-win’- for everyone to win ,

Seeking first to understand then to be understood,

Working with synergy,

Sharpening the saw -- balancing feels best.

The students viewed a power point presentation about different vehicles and the sound of their engines. Each Prep senior student was given a question related to transportation, for which they had to research to find the answers, which were later discussed in class. They also made models of vehicles from old boxes and cartons. The transport project ended with a visit to the Carzspa to see how we need to take care of our vehicles.

thPuppet Show, 15 April: Our little ones were regaled with a

puppet show, organized by our very own Pre-Primary tutors. “The story of The Three Little Pigs,” was dramatized using stick puppets. The students were fascinated by the show and made a very appreciative audience.

tudents of Grade 4 went to 'Tambekarwada' for a field

trip to experience the role of arts in different cultures, places and times as a part of their ongoing unit of Inquiry, under the transdisciplinary theme- 'How We Express Ourselves.' Tambekarwada, the residence of the erstwhile Diwan of Gaekwad rulers of Vadodara, is a heritage site under the Archaeological Survey Of India. The students admired the different frescoes in the Indian and European tradition, done during that time. Every painting had a story to tell, which was corroborated by Mr. Anil Patel, the guide. The charisma of the colourful paintings of a bygone era attracted students and they appreciated the use of art as a medium of communication of one's feelings. The subsequent visit to Vadodara museum gave them an opportunity to admire different art forms like Mughal miniature paintings, Rajput paintings, European sculptures, Egyptian and Chinese artifacts, all under one roof. Ms. Kanika Mandal , currently pursuing a Ph.D in Museology, was kind enough to provide valuable insights into the role of art forms in communicating man's ideas and emotions. The original Persian version of Mahabharata, with battle scenes depicting the darker side of history proved as fascinating as the skeleton of a baby whale, a mammoth's skull and models of biodiversity. This informative and interactive trip certainly fine tuned their aesthetic sense.

Grade-6, Dandeli-Goa-Dudheshwar: Our trip to Dandeli-

Goa-Dudheshwar, a very fascinating part of our country, was amazing, adventurous, and full of fun and frolic. It was a medley of different emotions altogether and we enjoyed each and every moment of the trip thoroughly. Our visit to the Cashew nuts, Zucchini and Supari farms was informative and interesting. The visit to Syntheri rocks left us speechless as we saw seven different types of rocks which were placed one above the other and formed big mountains. We had an amazing time in Goa at the Calangute beach, and Jacuzzi in Dandeli. Para-sailing, jet skiing and bumpy ride at the Calangute beach were the best in the entire trip.

Grade 7, Ajanta-Ellora: Our trip to Ajanta-Ellora Caves 'the

finest surviving example of Indian art' was educational in the true sense of the word. We were awestruck by the exquisite carving and painting on rock. At Pune Adventure Camp, the children enjoyed every bit of water sport and adventure activities. Lavasa, India's planned hill city had a lot to offer in terms of water sports and its breathtaking beauty as we climbed higher. At Bamboosa, pupils learnt how bamboos are given an ultra modern look so that they can find a place in modern homes. Bamboo furniture presented a beautiful sight. The trip was one tremendous learning experience and a memorable one, too.

Grade 8, Nainital-Corbett: We embarked on our much thawaited excursion to Nainital on the 16 February and were

treated to its picturesque beauty with 'snow and more snow' everywhere. We began our first day in Nainital by seeking the blessings of Naina Devi at the temple near the Naini Lake and then proceeded to 'Snow View Point' by the ropeway. The second day began with a visit to the local zoo where we got to see animals like the tiger, leopard, sambar, barking deer, spotted deer, langur, and several very beautiful birds, mainly different varieties of pheasants. A visit to Bhim Tal, China Peak and Corbett Falls was exciting. The highlight of the Safari was the herd of Indian Elephants that was spotted feeding and that became aggressive when a couple of jeeps went too close to them. That was a scary, bone chilling moment for some of us. However, the memory of the serene lake town and the majestic snow clad Himalayas will stay with us always.

Grade 9, Kufri-Shimla:

No matter how cold it was,No matter how many times we got our legs stuck in snow,No matter how much we fought for a little space around the fire place,No matter how tired we were, at the end of the day.We believe it was all worth it!The Kufri-Shimla trip was a panorama of mixed feelings like happiness and sadness, friendship and enmity. We learnt how to help ourselves and others through various activities like trekking and snow crafting. We learnt how to be independent yet together through the treasure hunt. These, and all the other moments that we cherished, will be etched in our memories FOREVER.

Grade 11, Rishikesh Trip: Grade 11 had a unique experience in

the lap of the mighty Ganga during their weeklong trip to th rdRishikesh from 16 to 23 .The beach camp site on Byasi road

highway, 04km from Shivpuri, had a divine touch with river Ganga flowing nearby. The experience of river-rafting for three consecutive days for 28 kilometers, where students and teachers had to row the boat and cross the Giant Rapids under the guidance of a very skilled and well trained captain, was the most thrilling experience. The 7 hours night trek in the mountains was an eye opener and a challenge. Fox flying, rappelling, beach volleyball were the other very exciting experiences. Lastly, to have spent time with our class mates, having shared some exciting and some terrifying moments, was the best experience of all.

2. thSweden: It was on 4 February when our Swedish friends from ISSR arrived in sunny India. We were at the airport to receive them

with a banner to welcome them. The following day was all about introductions and familiarization with the school. They had an amazing time here. From lessons in school to the rickshaw rides around the city, they loved it all. Who knew that they would love shopping in India? While some indulged themselves in Indian food, others found it too spicy, but everyone relished it. The best was saved for the last when we organised a 'Garba Night' before the farewell dinner. Their enchanting with our culture was evident in the delight sparkling on their faces as they tried to match their steps to the Garba songs! I was amazed to know that most of them watch Hindi movies and are Amir Khan fans. What came home was that, despite differences in language, culture and time zones, at heart

we are all the same. I'm glad I could experience it by hosting our Swedish friends. - Faizan Siddiquie, Grade 11

BOARDING LIFE @ NISV - Christmas celebrations were the highlight of the boarding activities in the month of December. A

beautiful ambience with a bonfire was created on the lawn behind the girls' hostel and it was a joyful sight to see Santa Claus ride pillion on a two wheeler with his bag full of gifts for each child on campus! A few games and a sumptuous dinner brought an end to an evening filled with fun and joy. The Annual Concert witnessed a number of the boarders participating enthusiastically in their given roles. It was the first public performance for some, but each one played their role to perfection. The Uttarayan break had a few boarders staying back and they spent an entire day flying kites out of the campus with Mr. Ashvin Patel. For them, it was a day well spent! Some of the boarders played an active role during the Funfair by putting up various stalls. The experience gained in the course of these events will surely impact their lives. Regular month end movie outings followed by lunch and dinner was also cherished by the boarders. The birthday celebrations of the boarder's at the end of the month also brightened the day for each one of them. City

rdOrnithologist, Ms. Avi Sabawala delivered a lecture on 23 Mar. ‘13 on the avian life in and around Vadodara and the importance of conserving it. She then walked around the school campus with boarders, pointing out the various bird species spotted on campus.
