Madrid Trip
Thirty three students travelled to Madrid for a five day training experience with the Real Madrid
Academy coaching staff and played a series of games against Spanish sides.
The matches were streamed live so parents got an opportunity to follow the games and the teachers did
a great job keeping Twitter updated with photos and information.
The highlights of the trip were undoubtedly meeting football legend Xabi Alonso, watching Real Madrid
Vs Eibar play in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and defeating the Spanish teams in each match! The
students were impeccably behaved and did a great job of representing the school.
We have had an overwhelming response from parents thanking us the fantastic experience the trip gave
our students which has been much appreciated. Thanks must go to Mr Gullick, Miss Stevenson, Mr
Shields and Miss Fryors for giving up their time and working with the teams on such an amazing trip.
Thanks also to Analytica Resources who sponsored the kit.

Work Experience—’Girls go Technical’ with BMW-Mini, Oxford
Abbie Jones, year 11, attended a work experience at Mini plant Oxford during the first four days of half
term. Congratulations to Abbie for applying and obtaining a place, the application to attend involved a
three hour online test, CV, and form filling.
As part of a 'Girls Go Technical' programme at Oxford's Mini Plant, BMW bosses are stepping up a gear to
encourage more young girls and women to take up careers in the field. 29 'girls' aged between 15 and 24
took part in a week's work experience across BMW's plants in Oxford, Swindon and Hams Hall, in
Warwickshire.
The group of girls from colleges and schools were taken on factory tours and learned about the
manufacturing processes at each plant before experiencing the day-to-day challenges encountered by
engineers and technical apprentices.
Practical sessions were held in the Mini Academy as well as workshops to perfect interview and job
application skills. Most of the students were from nearby counties or Oxfordshire, but one girl had
travelled from as far as Holland to take part in the week's programme.

Children in need Charity Walk
On 7th October, I once again decided to dig out my fancy dress and complete another charity walk for
Children in Need. This year, my university friends proposed the 18 mile walk along the canals from
Edgbaston to Bromsgrove dressed as bears – a challenge I was willing to accept. On the day, the weather
held out for us, which meant we could take in the numerous sites along the way. Unfortunately, even
though we made it to Bromsgrove, we did not make it to our intended final destination because it
became too dark to continue safely. Fortunately, inaccurate route calculations prior to the event meant
we actually completed 22-miles instead of the intended 18. This was an even greater achievement and
made the 44,880 steps well worth it!
