Message from the Principal

Dear Parents/Carers,

Working together to stay healthy

The NSW Department of Education is working closely with the NSW Ministry of Health in response to the unfolding international COVID-19 situation. While we have no concerns at Corowa South Public School currently, maintaining good hygiene standards is an important way to reduce the risk of infection.

Please promote good hygiene, including handwashing

with soap for 20 seconds, to reduce the spread of

germs. We have ensured soap dispensers in our school

toilets are filled daily so students can maintain their

hygiene at school.

Bullying No Way! The National Day of Action against bullying is Friday 20 March. We have a strong culture at school where we don’t stand by and watch unkind behaviour. We take action to support our friends to be kind to others. We are learning about positive friendships in our Wellbeing program, Bounce Back. Changes to note in your diary There will not be a whole school Assembly next week, Friday 27 March. Our Athletics Carnival Gala Day, Thursday 26 March, has been postponed until next term. No date has been set as yet. The Anzac Day march, that our school community proudly takes part in, has been cancelled in Corowa. While there will not be a school Anzac Day service at school learning about Anzac Day will respectfully continue in each classroom.

on Wednesday 11th March: Cooper P 50m freestyle and PP5 Relay, Maddison R PP5 relay, Macy Douch PP5 Relay and Cooper G PP5 Relay. All students reported they had a fun day, swimming their PBs in their events.

Four boys—Aiden W, Blake D, Liam S and Cooper P, represented our school at the Zone AFL selection trials on the 12th March. Congratulations to Cooper P who has been selected in the Zone Team to compete in the Riverina Trials.

As part of our PDHPE unit, students have been investigating ways they can improve their personal hygiene habits, for instance correct methods of handwashing. Students explored the required duration to thoroughly wash your hands and particular areas on our hands that often require a little more attention. We also touched on recent events happening in the world, and the difference between reputable media platforms opposed to media resources that don’t provide the facts. This is also another requirement as part of PDHPE curriculum.

During Maths students have been conducting various fun hands on activities to investigate lines of symmetry. Students have created some very detailed symmetry work of castles, butterflies, stars and rabbits to support extended learning of symmetry in their workbooks. I am proud of the students, observing some interesting and wonderful collaboration during these activities. Go Maliyan!

A few reminders as we are mid-term now:

Home Readers: Due daily

Library: Tuesday

Homework: Handed out on Monday and collected on Friday for weekend marking.

Have a wonderful week everyone.

Hand washing: Wet hands, apply soap, lather and scrub all areas of hands for 20 seconds (don’t forget thumbs, wrists and fingertips, rinse with water and dry).

Mrs Conibear and Mrs Hicks, Class Teachers

Our school appreciates if parents are able to make a voluntary contribution towards the education of their child. The amount that our school asks for is $30 for the first child in the family and $15 for each additional child. These funds are used directly in the classroom towards the cost of online educational programs for which the school has a subscription. Payment may be made online through the school website or cash sent to the school in an envelope. Please note the child’s name, Voluntary Contribution and the amount enclosed.

Please Note—this payment is entirely voluntary. No child or family will suffer any discrimination or embarrassment over failure to make payment. Confidentiality, privacy and dignity will be maintained concerning contributions.
