Thank You... We would like to thank the United Methodist Women for the wonder-ful sandwich tray provided for our family before the visitation.

We would also like to express our appreciation to the East Cross Family for your kindness and support during our father’s illness. We are also grateful for the friend-ships he and our mother enjoyed as members of this congregation. Thank You!

East Cross VIM: Frances Willard Flexibility

As you may remember, East Cross was to send a VIM team to Piedmont, Oklahoma from June 3

rd to June 8

th. The

seven members were excitedly making plans, but the VIM office called to cancel Piedmont on the Friday morning before we were to leave on Sunday. We quickly scheduled a 4-day VIM to Frances Willard home in Tulsa and had a great week!! Julie and Maggie joined Shauna and Jeretta with working in the garden, library, sorting and organizing donations. The guys worked in one of the cottages, putting a sub-floor in a bathroom, repairing sheetrock, and prepping for painting. The group worked outside clearing hiking trails, weed-eating, sanding and staining benches and picnic tables built by volunteers from Lowe’s earlier this year. One of the Circle of Care ministries at Frances Willard home is Pearl’s Hope which helps homeless women with children have a place to call home while working to get their lives back on track. God’s timing was perfect as our team gave a much needed boost to the process of getting the living quarters ready for new tenants after a family of 7 had just moved out. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has a plan for our lives and He definitely had a plan for our team completely different from what we expected!! Team members: Bill and Jeretta Amburn, Warren Ewert, Mike, Shauna, Robbie, and Brody Lawson, Maggie Headley, Julie Benyshek, and Kadie Turcotte

This past weekend, Rhonda and I went to see my mom. One of the reasons we went was to help her catch up on a couple of things around the house and with her vehicles; and I enjoy tinkering, so that was fun. But the real joy of spending a couple of days with mom was just spending a couple of days with mom.

My mom was the nurturing parent in our family growing up, so when I visit with her, even to this day, I feel comfort and peace. I’m sure glad my mom was there for me when I was growing up and is still there for us now. Who was the nurturing parent in your family growing up? If you have children living at home, or have raised children, who was the nurturing parent to your children? Strong guidance is important in raising children, but nurturing is also a must, I think, to raise our children to be mature, healthy adults. In the perfect love of God, He provides the strong hand to guide us while also providing the nurture we need to grow into strong, gracious human beings. Join us this Sunday as we continue our Sermon Series called “Parental Challenges” with a sermon entitled Getting Beyond the Guilt.

Back to School… School will start in about 7 ½ weeks and supplies are needed for the Washington County School Supply Drive. UMW members will be gathering school supplies and invite the congregation to take part.

Supplies most needed are: pencils, wide ruled paper, backpacks, Crayola markers (not crayons), colored pencils, and glue sticks. These items will be collected through July 29th and may be put in the wooden boxes at the sanctuary entrances or in the east lower level gathering area entrance.

W.C.S.S.D. welcomes your tax deductible donations as well. Please make checks out to W.C.S.S.D. and mail to P.O. Box 2031, Bartlesville, OK 74005-2031. The Washington County School Supply Drive is a charitable organization helping area students in Headstart through 12th grade and teachers by providing school supplies to those students in need of assistance due to financial difficulties thus helping to make school a better experience for both teachers and students. Over 2,400 students received backpacks filled with supplies last year.

Visit their website: www.packthebackpacks.org for more information.

Early Childhood Center...The current summer session has 3 more weeks left! There has been much fun and learning had by the children attending as well as lots of smiles expressed by our 17 summer staff members! Many of our classes will be discussing “Mission Work & Finding Opportunities to Help & Do for Others” soon. Our final week of this session will be the ever-popular “Ice Cream Activities & Water Fun” with plans to have a Bartlesville fire truck here to spray water on the children on our playgrounds – the children LOVE this!

Are you interested in part time work with young children? Many of our classroom positions are great for retired persons, or a parent who needs a little work outside the Home or a little additional income, or even college students too! If you are interested in caring for, guiding and playing with young children, please contact Coleen (director) for more information by contact 918-333-3814 or [email protected].
