Today Ben Latham and Oscar Paterson attended the Sydney Nth PSSA Boys Cricket trials at Berowra.
Congratulations to our Zone swimming team who participated in the Sth Central Coast PSSA Swimming
Championships last Tuesday. All of our students gave a great effort with many gaining PB’s in their events. At the end
of the day Avoca Beach were awarded both Champion School and Handicap winner ( based on school numbers).
We now have 16 students participating in the Sydney Nth PSSA Championships at Homebush on
Thursday 29th March. A list of placegetters from the carnival is included below. Thank you to all parents who
supported our team on the day.
On Friday we had a visit from the Mariners. Two of the players, Josh Bingham and Adam Berry, spoke to the students
at the assembly about their lives as professional sportsman and answered questions.
The Mariners have provided us with some general admission tickets to their home game against Sydney FC.
The game is on this Saturday at 5.30pm. If you are attending the game and would like tickets please leave your name
with the office. We will do a draw on Thursday morning and send the tickets out to those drawn.
As mentioned in a previous newsletter we are investigating the possibility of altering our school times. After
consultation with Busways if we were to move our starting and finishing times earlier it would need to be 8.35am
start and 2.35pm finish to fit in with their schedules. The staff have indicated a willingness to move to these new
times. During our parent/teacher interviews in weeks 10 & 11 we will provide parents with a survey to gauge
community support for a change. If a decision is made to change our times it will not take effect until 2019.

Harmony Day, 21 March, celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of
belonging for everyone. During the week children will be participating in class activities promoting Harmony Day. A
special assembly will be held at 12:45pm on Wednesday 21st March whereby Year 2 students and the Senior Choir
will present items to promote this special day. All parents are welcome to attend and are invited to stay and bring a
picnic lunch. We encourage parents to bring food that is significant to their cultural background. The children are
encouraged to wear an orange accessory to their uniform such as orange ribbons, badges, socks or hats. For further

PBL WEEK 8
This week our PBL focus has been on how to be respectful, responsible and perform our personal best when travelling to and from school on the bus. Irresponsible behaviour on the bus can affect the safety of all students. Children must remain seated at all times and show respect to the driver and others travelling on the bus. Children who put the safety of others at risk, may lose their right to travel on the bus.
Students demonstrate their personal best by being organised, settled and ready to go in their bus lines at the end of the day. Our school expectations require students to be seated in their bus lines while waiting for their bus. Students are responsible by travelling with an opal card and taking their rubbish with them.
ONLINE STUDENTS PAYMENTS – When making your online payments please make sure your payments are going to
Avoca Beach Public School NOT AVOCA SCHOOL. Our school website is RED where as the Avoca School website is
BLUE.
School Banking has resumed on Thursdays. Volunteers are needed to assist with the processing of the banking. If
you are available to help please contact the office.

Welders understand the risks that go along with their work, but they don’t expect the job they are welding to blow up in their face. On the 8th
of February, Avoca Beach man and expat Scot Mick Jardine was welding at the Block ‘n Tackle Brewery in Kincumber, NSW when there was an
explosion, causing serious burns to 30 per cent of his body. He’s on a long road to recovery and the family is counting their blessings, but as a
contractor Jardine doesn’t have the support of a big company behind him and as a new Australian resident, he doesn’t have local family to
help him, his wife and two young children through this difficult time.
Their Central Coast friends and neighbors have banded together in support, with a benefit concert and a raffle featuring donated services and
prizes from local businesses. Tickets are available now, online.
Playing a huge role in making the benefit concert possible are the staff and owners of the Block ‘n Tackle Brewery.
Block ‘n Tackle Director Greg Tobin said, “Michael (Pep) and his wife Michelle who run the brewery, resident chefs Dorothee Myer and Granny
from Where’s the food (WTF) witnessed the shocking accident, cared for Mick until the ambulance arrived and have been deeply affected. Our
hearts go out to Mick and it is important to all of us that we are part of the healing process that is pulling the community together in support
of the Jardines.”
Local luxury B&B owner and long-time event and benefit concert organizer, Jo Forster, said, “We are thrilled that Steve Kilbey and Adam
Spencer found it in their hearts to get behind our fundraising efforts. Under the Stars with Steve Kilbey will be a night of exceptional
entertainment for a few hundred lucky people who snag tickets to this intimate performance by an Australian music legend, with profits going
direct to the Jardine family.”
Caroline Jardine, Mick’s wife, said, “We’re not sure how we will ever begin to repay all our new friends on the Central Coast, and everyone
involved, but we are absolutely beyond grateful for the support. We love living here and it touches our hearts to know we have so many
people in our corner. Thank you to each and every person involved and to all who attend the event. And we send love and thanks to our
friends and family back home in Ireland who have also been fundraising and doing so much to support us from afar. It’s all been truly
amazing.”
Only three hundred tickets are available now for this one-night-only benefit performance by Steve Kilbey, Under The Stars at the Block ‘n
Tackle Brewery in Kincumber. The ticket price of $75 includes premium entertainment, goodie bag, five lucky door tickets, a schooner of beer
and a curry, with food, beer and wine available on the night.
