Avoca Beach Public School is committed to providing a safe and caring environment where individuals are respectful, responsible and strive for their personal best.

Our innovative, collaborative and inclusive culture empowers and supports every learner.

Principal’s Report

All classroom teachers have now completed writing Semester 1 reports for students in their class. Reading through

the reports it is obvious that teachers have placed a lot of time, effort and thought into ensuring that the reports

provide a detailed report on their students’ progress so far this year. The reports will be sent home with all students

this Friday. I would ask that all parents and caregivers take the time to read through the report and discuss with their

children.

This week our Stage 3 dance groups perform at the Central Coast Dance Festival at Laycock St Theatre. Mrs Smith &

Mrs Faunce’s group perform on Wednesday evening whilst Mrs Jarmaine’s group performs on Thursday evening.

Both groups perform in two shows during the evening. The students have been rehearsing hard since early this year

and are looking forward to performing t full houses. A big thank you to Mrs Smith, Mrs Faunce and Mrs Jarmaine for

their work to prepare the groups and good luck to our performers.

Congratulations to both our girls’ football and girls’ hockey teams who were successful in their next rounds of their

respective NSW PSSA Knockouts on Thursday. Reports on their games are included in this newsletter.

This Friday all stages will be attending the Musica Viva performance in the hall. Please ensure that the permission

note and payment of $8 is returned by this Wednesday. Unfortunately students who have not paid will be unable to

attend.

This week Millie Parker will be representing Sydney North PSSA at the NSW PSSA Girls Hockey Championships at

Newcastle. There will be 14 Associations from across NSW competing. Good luck to Millie.

Also this week Archie Mesritz represents Sydney North at the 12yrs NSW PSSA Rugby League Championships at St

Marys. Good luck to Archie.

boys the best of luck!

Robo Cup Junior Success Last Monday students from Stages 2 & 3 participated in the University of Newcastle’s Robotics competition held at the Central Coast Grammar School. I would like to congratulate Charlotte, Amelia, Sebastian, Beau, Callum, Jett, Leo, James, Zac, Angus, Tiki, Rohan, Adam, Kobi, Ella, Carys, Lillie, Carla, Joshua and Duke for representing the school so well. These students were required to code their Lego EV3 robots to solve increasingly difficult ‘rescue’ challenges. The competition mirrors the real-life use of robots that rescue people from life-threatening situations. Our students learnt how to program their EV3 robots so that the colour sensor would follow a line, and the infrared sensor could detect and avoid objects. This was quite tricky and I was very proud of how well all of our teams worked on their programs. Our most successful teams were able to combine these programs into one flow. One of our teams was also able to program the robot to detect and save the victim from the chemical spill, thereby winning the Robo Cup! Congratulations to Rohan & Tiki for your outstanding programming skills, teamwork and tireless problem solving. Girls Soccer On Thursday the 20th June our girls’ football (soccer) team played Round 4 of the PSSA Football knockout competition against Empire Bay PS. The girls were faced with some equally tough competition and we fortunately finished the game on top with a 2 all draw but 6- 0 win based on corners. Congratulations girls on a well deserved win. Round 5 will be up against Bateau Bay PS in the next couple of weeks. All students were fantastic ambassadors for our school demonstrating sportsmanship and perseverance. A huge thank you to everyone who assisted the girls with transport and supporting our team. Mrs Cox

Girls Hockey

On Thursday the Avoca Beach girls’ hockey team played their first game against Point Clare at the Wyong Hockey Fields. The girls defeated Point Clare 7-0 and will go on to play the winners from the next round in the coming weeks. I was really proud of the sportsmanship and team work that the girls displayed during the game. Thank you to all of our parents and grandparents for your support. Well done girls!

Stage 3 Photography Display Well done to the Stage 3 students who had their photographs displayed at the 5 Lands walk over the weekend. It was great to see their talent on display in our community. Congratulations to the following students who were presented with special achievement awards: Lillian Daniell, Aria McKay, James Deeth, Nate Michalk-Banning and Carla Howard.

5 Lands Walk Well done to our choir for projecting their fabulous singing voices on Saturday at Hunter Park for the 5 Lands Walk. They braved the winter weather and demonstrated our school values of “RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE AND PERSONAL BEST” behaviour. Fantastic school representatives!

Sydney North Cross Country Congratulations to our 12 cross country runners; Ollie Craik, Jagger Curnow, Bondi Werner, Talia Tebb, Jasper

Hunter, Tyler Ramsay, Taj Knight, Zach Wilson, Ava I’Anson, Pia Gatt, Kiah Tebb and Lily O’Cass. These students

represented the Southern Central Coast Zone at the Sydney North Cross Country Carnival on Friday at the Gosford

Race Track. Our runners did a fantastic job representing our school and zone proudly. Well done!

PBL Week 9 - Canteen This week our PBL focus has been on how to be respectful, responsible and perform our personal best when using

the canteen. Students have recognised the importance of lining up in two lines against the wall, listening and

following instructions and returning promptly to their designated eating area. Our school expectations require

students to be responsible by waiting patiently for their turn. Students are demonstrating their personal best by

being polite and using their manners.

EXTENDED LEAVE from ATTENDANCE. If you are planning a family holiday during the school term, for more than 5

days, parents need to apply for an ‘Application for Extended Leave’ from school. An ’Application for Extended

Leave-Travel’ can be collected from the office. Once completed please return to the Principal at least two weeks

prior to the leave then an approved ‘Certificate of Extended leave - Travel’ will be issued. The original certificate will

be signed, copied for school records and returned to parents. You need to carry this certificate during your leave, as

it must be produced when requested by police or other authorised attendance officers.

VOLUNTEERS AT OUR SCHOOL

Volunteers play an important role in the daily school routine. Please be aware that the Department of Education

requires all volunteers to complete a Volunteer Declaration and provide Proof of Identity that meets the 100-point

check. We are updating our records in accordance with these requirements, ask that anyone who is currently

volunteering, or planning to do so in the future, complete the attached declaration, and return it to the office along

with your 100 points as soon as possible. This not only applies to in-school volunteers but also anyone that at any

stage may be transporting our students to offsite activities.

For parents transporting students to offsite activities please be aware that we still require copies of both your

current driver’s licence and current vehicle registration. This documentation must be provided prior to the activities

and is required even if you are transporting your own child. In accordance with department requirements, the

transporting of students is not permitted until all documentation has been received.
