    NEWSLETTER – AUTUMN 2014

  • What a fantastic summer we have had at The Uxbridge Centre – lots of sunshine, a brilliant Playscheme, an excellent Exhibition of our community tapestry and a new look for the Centre with freshly

painted halls and a new kitchen.

Firstly in this edition however, we must start with an Appeal for Committee Membership & our Search

for a new Treasurer & Chairperson

We REALLY need some help to retain our Charity status and keep the Community Centre going. This is SERIOUS & URGENT…..

After many years service, our Chairperson, Angie Brydges and Treasurer, Jackie Westbrook, are stepping down from their roles due to other commitments. This will formally occur at our next AGM in March 2015. We need willing people to come on board now, to learn the ropes, and get involved to ensure a seamless handover and the future of this Centre. The commitment isn’t huge – you need to attend a management meeting one evening per month (7.30-9.00pm) 10 times a year.

Contact Angie (07770 785512) or Donna (07732 806925) for further information and to check the date of the next meeting.

    On the subject of appeals…..

Please join us at The Uxbridge Centre

    between 10.30am-12.30pm

and help support this worthy cause.

Bake a cake or treat yourself to something sweet but

make a date to be with us and help make a contribution

  • Hopefully you had the chance to visit the Library where our tapestry panels, sewn by local members of the community, were on display. The winner of the quiz was Alyssa, aged 9 from Iver who got top marks and a £20 prize. We had some excellent feedback:

‘A fantastic project, inspirational, creative and full of love for our Hillingdon’ (Allan & Lynne Kauffman, former Mayor & Mayoress of Hillingdon)

‘I loved all the different images and details of the area. Beautifully worked’ (Helen Cope)

‘It is a touching, beautifully crafted exhibition. Every piece of work is a joy to look at.’ (Jane Rose)

The next stage of the project is to bring all of the panels together to make one large wall hanging which will be a permanent tribute to our community and heritage. We will be getting together again at the Centre on Thursday 25th September 6.30-7.30pm, this session will be attended by Jenny, a textile expert and member of the Hillingdon Arts Association, who will be helping us to put the project together. ____________________________________________________________________________________
