Please allow me to clarify this. Lower School – Pre-K - 5th grade Morning drop off will begin at 7:55 a.m. Faculty and safety patrol will be on duty at that time. Morning car line will end at 8:15 a.m. Students arriving after that time will be required to get a tardy slip from the front desk before going to class. Afternoon car line will begin at 3:20 p.m. Students will be called from the MPR at that time. No student will be dismissed early unless prior arrangements have been made. Afternoon dismissal will end at 3:40 p.m. Students who have not been picked up by this time will be taken to Extended Care where a fee may be assessed. Upper School -- 6th - 12th grade Morning drop off will begin at 7:45 a.m. Students who arrive before 7:45 a.m. (tutoring, athletic practice, etc), must be directly supervised by a faculty or staff member. Morning arrival will end at 8:15 a.m. Students who arrive after this time are required to obtain a tardy slip from the upper school office before being admitted to class. Afternoon car line will begin at 3:30 p.m. and end at 3:45 p.m. Students who have not been picked up must go to the SLC until their ride arrives. The later start to the school day has not affected instruction time in any way. No teaching time has been lost. Students in both lower and upper school receive exactly the same amount of instructional time as they did last year. There has been a question as to why lower school and upper school dismiss at different times. There are two reasons for this - (1) it helps to minimize traffic congestion in the main driveway where lower school and upper school vehicles merge and (2) it allows our families who have students in both lower and upper school to pick up all of their children in a timely and safe manner. Dear Warrior families,

As you are by now aware, this year we have moved the school start time from 8:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Consequently, it has come to our attention that there may be some confusion as to the exact starting and finishing times of school this year. Please allow me to clarify this.

Lower School – Pre-K - 5th grade

Morning drop off will begin at 7:55 a.m.

Upper School -- 6th - 12th grade

Morning drop off will begin at 7:45 a.m.

Garden Prep Day!

Pre-K and Kindergarten Meet Firefighters

The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes welcomed the firefighting crew from Woodlands Fire Station #2 on Thursday morning. The classes learned all about firefighting, got an up close look firefighting equipment and asked the firefighters a lot of questions!

Our garden was in full bloom this summer! You need to visit our watermelon patch. Our kids are excited to taste the fruits of their labor and are watching those melons ripen. It won’t be long! We are excited that our science specialist, Mr. Robert Roach, has joined us this year. He is trained in the Junior Master Gardener program and will be sharing the JMG program with your children. You may have already seen some of these projects and activities come home. The JMG is an offshoot of 4H through the Montgomery County Extension Service. Through this program, your children will be learning how to care for God’s Earth, grow their own food, compost to return nutrients to the soil, and simply eat healthier. Plus, we get to play in the dirt at school! How fun is that?

To prepare for the new year, we need to turn over the beds from last season. Don’t worry, we are renting a tiller! What we need is a bit of manpower (and lady-power) to make fast work of these beds. Our first Garden Prep Day is Saturday, September 15th from 8:00-11:00 a.m. Bring your rakes, hoes, garden gloves, and weed-eaters. There is nothing like getting dirty to bring families closer together! Let’s turn over those beds to make room for all the fantastic things our kids are going to be growing this fall! I can’t wait!

Camp Kairos -- by Ryan Highley, Campus Pastor

A highlight of our students’ senior year at Woodlands Christian is their annual class retreat, Camp Kairos. The meaning of the Greek word kairos is the the right or opportune moment (the supreme moment). This meaning underscores the opportunity the senior class has to reflect on who they are in Christ and how God intends to use them as individuals and as a class. The Class of 2013 travelled to Forest Glen Camp in the Sam Houston National Forest near Huntsville, Texas for four and a half days of fellowship and spiritual growth. During the retreat, the seniors participated in team building exercises and enjoyed many exciting activities including a rock climbing wall, canoeing and a zip line.

Lance Dockery of Conroe Community Church was the guest worship leader and speaker. Mr. Dockery taught from the book of Second Peter concerning Jesus’ ministry of reconciliation. He challenged the students to pause and remember what Jesus has done for them and then let that remembrance guide their lives. Our chaperones played a vital role in the success of this year’s retreat, and heartfelt thanks go out to Pam Masau, Heidi Sweet, Dustin Ellis, and Steve Zeal. It was a great time for our students to get away and focus on how their senior year can leave a legacy of leadership for others to follow.
