Book Week Parade Marie Bashir Public School celebrated Book Week On Thursday, 28 August, 2014. All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in a book parade. Students and parents put a lot of effort into costumes for the students. Thankyou Mrs Owen for organising the parade and the P & C for organising a scrumptious sausage sizzle for all to enjoy. It was wonderful to see parents joining us for lunc h. We would like to sincerely thank Fettayleh Small Goods (HALAL) for donating over 200 sausages for our first school Sausage Sizzle. Uniform Shop Congratulations to the P & C for successfully opening Marie Bashir Public School’s uniform shop. It was a very exciting occasion. Your time and efforts are appreciated by the entire school community. Afternoon Pick Up Parents wanting to pick their children from the school can use the kiss and drop zone at the front of the school. Please ensure your child’s name is displayed on the front window. Alternatively parents wanting to walk or park their vehicle can pick their child up from the front of the school. Due to increasing enrolments and congestion at the front of the school in the afternoon, parents who walk their child from school are asked to pick their children up from the quadrangle. Please enter and exit the school via the side gate between the auditorium and administration block to avoid congestions in the office area. Please complete note below if you wish to pick your child up from the kiss and drop zone at the front of the school. Parents who are picking their child up from the kiss and ride zone are reminded that they are to wait in the queue. To join the end of the queue, parents are requested to drive to the end of the cul de sac on Albert Road. Tennis Lessons Tennis lessons will be offered to students at Marie Bashir Public School from the commencement of term 4. Lessons will be conducted by MLC Tennis Hot Shots each Friday morning from 8:30am – 9:15am. The cost of a lesson is $14.00 and is to be paid directly to MLC tennis Hot Shots. Students wishing to participate in tennis lessons are offered to join introductory lessons, free of charge. These will be held on Friday 12 and 19 September from 8:30am on the tennis courts of Marie Bashir Public School. For all inquiries please call Neil Armstrong: 0404 845 925. Garden Thank you to Bunnings at Lidcombe for donating herbs and plants to the school. The students were very busy establishing our first garden bed. Thank you to our P & C for coordinating this donation with Bunnings.

Returning To School In 2015

We are now starting to consider the arrangement of classes for 2015. As you would be aware, schools are staffed according to the number of children who enrol at the beginning of each year. To assist in our planning, we need to know of any children currently in K to Year 5 who will not be returning in 2015. If you know your child will not be at Marie Bashir Public School next year, would you please complete the form below and return it to school as soon as possible. Please note that if your child will be returning to school after the first day of term (i.e. Wednesday, 28 January 2015) you will also need to notify the school in writing otherwise your child cannot be allocated to a class. Thank you for your support. Regards, Jacqui Attard Principal

Flu season is here! Influenza is spread from person-to-person through the coughing or sneezing of infected people. Remind your child about these good hygiene practices to minimise the spread of infection:

• Anyone who is sick with influenza symptoms should stay home until their symptoms are gone. • Cover the nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw the tissue in the garbage bin after use. • Wash hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also

effective. • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

If you or your child develops influenza-like illness, seek the advice of your family doctor as you would with any other illness. The seasonal influenza vaccine, which protects against the pandemic influenza strain as well as two other influenza strains, is now available free to eligible people. More information about the vaccine is available from the NSW Health Immunisation Unit's vaccination page. Previous vaccination with the pandemic influenza vaccine, Panvax® is not a barrier to also receiving the seasonal influenza vaccine.
