This year you’ll start to see some exciting improvements to the Minfos system, underpinned by the work we’ve done throughout 2013 to modernise its foundational parts. The new ESE database platform provides the rock-solid stability that allows us to continue delivering value to your pharmacy, with progressive and systematic improvements. To enable the next stage of our redevelopment of the Minfos software, we’re asking you to perform a ‘manual’ update to Minfos 3.5.1. You’ll receive full instructions and a helpful checklist in the Minfos 3.5.1 Release Notes. These core components are pivotal to the success of any future development we undertake at Minfos. So that we can support your transition to these new technologies, it is critically important that your pharmacy’s hardware and software meet our system requirements. Please work with your hardware vendor to ensure that your system is ready for the coming changes. Keep in mind that the Minfos system is no longer tested for compatibility with Windows XP or Vista, and from 1 April this year, Minfos also will not be tested on Windows Server 2003. Your Minfos system requires a ‘manual’ update in MarchMinfos 3.5.1 is a major release that includes important back-end enhancements that are required by many of the technologies we’re using to make Minfos more modern and secure.

Updating to Minfos 3.5.1 will require some extra time from your staff.

This manual update should only be required once; future Minfos releases will return to the usual, overnight update process.

In the upcoming Minfos 3.5.1 Release Notes, we’ll provide full instructions for both of these procedures, plus a checklist that you can use to help ensure that both procedures are completed successfully.

If you have any questions, please log a support request in our Self Service portal: symbion.service-now.com

We now integrate with DD-BookThe electronic controlled drug register from Methsof

If you're already a DD-Book® user, managing your S8 supplies just got easier! We've teamed up with Methsof® to enable your S8 script data to automatically flow through from Minfos to DD-Book, to save you time with every S8 drug supply, and to improve the accuracy of your entries. Contact the Minfos support team to arrange for integration.

Not using DD-Book? Go to the Methsof site to find out more about DD-Book features and pricing, and to download your free 30-day trial: methsof.com.au

DD-Book is currently compliant with health authorities to replace paper-based controlled drug registers in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania.

There are two one-off procedures you’ll need to follow:

1. Review the label queue on each of your Minfos stations.

2. Perform a ‘manual’ Minfos software update on your server station.

See your Minfos 3.5.1 Release Notes for the checklist and full instructions.

eRx Express: QR codes on repeatsIf you use eRx Express, you’ll be able to set up QR codes to print on your repeat forms when you update to Minfos 3.5.1.

Four great label queue enhancementsone shared label queue for all of your Minfos stations

When you update to Minfos 3.5.1, there will be one label queue shared with all your Minfos stations, which replaces the individual, unconnected label queues. You’ll be able to view and edit all queued labels on any of your Minfos stations, no matter which station or wireless stocktake scanner they were queued from.

Before you update, please follow the instructions in the Minfos 3.5.1 Release Notes to review your label queue on each Minfos station in your pharmacy, and delete any unwanted labels—this can save you time sorting through old labels after the update.

Visual improvements to the Label Queue window

Keep track of queued labels that haven’t been printed yet with the new icons: ‘S’ for shelf, ‘P’ for product. And new buttons: Clear All, print All, and Refresh.

option to print an asterisk shelf labels

When a product has two or more shelf labels queued to print, you now have the option to print a discreet asterisk (*) on its labels (selected, by default).

You could use the asterisk in a variety of ways—for example, it can be handy when you’re stocktaking, to help identify products stocked in multiple locations.

shelf labels remember your preferred barcode type

In Minfos 3.4.1, we enhanced the Print Queued Shelf Labels window: the last barcode type that you selected will automatically be your default barcode type—saving you a little time every time you print shelf labels.

For example, if you use APN barcodes, you only need to select this option once; the next time you print shelf labels, the Use Apn Barcode option will be selected by default.

Tip: Make screen text easier to readDo you increase your screen resolution to make it easier to read small text on large screens? In Windows 7 and 8, there's a better solution: increase the Windows text size!

1. Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Display

2. Select Medium or Larger > Apply > Log off later

3. Adjust resolution > Resolution: (select the "recommended" option) > Apply > Keep changes

4. To apply your changes, log off your computer, then log back on.

Is your software compatible with Minfos? Are you running Minfos on an unsupported version of Windows? We’ll still provide support for your Minfos software, but if you experience any issues caused by Windows incompatibility, we’ll require you to upgrade Windows in order to fix the issues.

To get the latest features and to ensure the stability of your Minfos system, please talk to your hardware vendor about your systems meeting our requirements.

We’d like to remind you that:

• From 1 April 2014, Minfos will no longer be tested for compatibility with Windows Server 2003. Your server station should be running Windows Server 2008 or higher, with at least 8GB of RAM.

• We ceased testing on Windows XP and Vista on 1 June last year. Your dispense, till, and back office stations should be running Windows 7 or higher.
