FROM THE SECRETARY'S OFFICE - Bob Garrett

The close of the Association year brings many tasks, including a head count. The fu l l detai ls will be in the Secretary's Report to the A G M y b u t we have had a net gain of Members and our total i s now over 700. So f a r almost 600 have paid the i r 1982 dues, and i f our his tor ic percentage of losses persists only about half of the 115 active 1981 members, who have not yet paid their dues, will pay their 1982 dues.

What can I say to the l a t e payers? You know the benefits of Association Membership, to which has been added for 1982 the free distribution of Gold181. The distribution pol icy for the new Bib1 iography has yet to be finalized, b u t you may rest assured that Association membership will provide b,y for the cheapest way to obtain a copy. Being an exploration geochemist, and interested in anomalies and out l ie rs , I would l ike nothing better than t o see my predictions, based on our past performance, proved wrong. Let 1982 be an anomalous year, confound the mathematical prediction, why don't a l l of you who have not yet paid your dues continue t o be active in the Association in 1982?

You will find enclosed with. the Newsletter a c0p.y of the 1982 Membershin List . As pointed out in the l a s t Newsletter the only change in format from the 1980 l i s t i s that the year of joining and the memberhip class have been added to aid Members, and prospective members, in finding Honorary and Voting members who would act as referees .

This i s the l a s t time that I will be writing a Newsletter. I have enjoyed my three year term as Secretary. The best parts of the job have been those that have enabled me to meet the Members and discuss the Association and Exploration Ge0chemistr.y. My parting request to you i s that you support and help Ray Lett , our new Secretary, who takes over a t the AGM in Saskatoon. This Newsletter i s your best avenue to com- munication with each other, i t i s here f.or your use as we1 1 as a way for Council to commun i ca t e with the Members.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possbile in Saskatoon.
