NOTICE FROM THENOTICE FROM THENOTICE FROM THENOTICE FROM THE SOCIETY NOMINATING COMMITTEE TO THE REGION 2 MEMBERSSOCIETY NOMINATING COMMITTEE TO THE REGION 2 MEMBERSSOCIETY NOMINATING COMMITTEE TO THE REGION 2 MEMBERSSOCIETY NOMINATING COMMITTEE TO THE REGION 2 MEMBERS

We are looking for a few good people to be the next leaders of ASPE. ASPE is a vol-unteer professional society and we need you to lead us into the future. We know everyone is busy with full-time jobs, family obligations, church, and other worthy things we volunteer of our time. And I will not lie to you, being on the ASPE Board of Directors takes a two (2) year commitment and time. There are four (4) called board

meetings a year, numerous conference calls and many E-mails.

We have all heard the excuses “I don’t have the time...”What have I to offer”…”Why would anyone vote for me.”Then in the next breath we say “Those yo-yo’s in charge don’t know what they’re doing”. Put all the “don’ts”, “what’s” and “why’s” behind you, and step up to the plate to make an impact on the future of ASPE. I will helpguild you through the process of getting on the ballot for the 2014 Convention and helping you become known among the delegates. Contact me at [email protected] Give it a shot, YOU could be the President in another 6

years.

Chuck Shoudel—VP Legislative

Hello everyone, While flipping through the 2012 code I had noticed letters in brackets-[A] before some of the sections. These letters represent the Code Development Committee Re-sponsible for the change such as: [A] Administrative Code Development Committee, [B] International Building Code Development Committee, [E] International Energy Conservation Code Development Committee, [F] International Fire Code Develop-ment Committee, and [M] International Mechanical Code Development Committee. I just wanted to go over a few code changes. Under the definitions section under COMBINATION WASTE AND VENT SYSTEM, lavatories and drinking fountains have been included. It used to be just horizontal wet venting of sinks and floor drains. The definition GRAY WATER - Waste discharged from lavatories, bathtubs, showers, clothes washers and laundry trays, was added. GREASE INTERCEPTOR has been broken down into two sections, Hydromechanical - Plumbing appurtenances that are installed in the sanitary drainage system to inter-cept free floating fats, oils and grease from waste water discharge. Continuous separation is accomplished by air entrainment, buoyancy and interior baffling, and Gravity - Plumbing appurtenances of not less than 500 gallons (1893 L) capacity that are installed in the sanitary drainage system to intercept free floating fats, oils and grease from waste water discharge. Separation is accomplished by gravity dur-ing a retention time of not less than 30 minutes. The PLUMBING APPLIANCE definition has been changed to read - Water-connected or drain-connected devices intended to perform a special function. These devices have their operation or control dependent on one or more energized components, such as motors, controls, or heating elements. Such devices are manually adjusted or controlled by the owner or operator, or operated automatically through one or more of the following actions: a time cycle, a temperature range, a pressure range, a measured volume or weight. The PLUMBING FIXTURE definition has been changed to read - A receptacle or de-vice that is connected to a water supply system or discharge to a drainage system or both. Such receptacles or devices require a supply of water; or discharge liquid waste or liquid-borne solid waste; or require a supply of water and discharge waste to a drainage system.

I hope everyone can make it to the ASPE meeting on the 13th.

See you there. Chuck Shoudel, VP Legislative.

VP Membership—Charlie Watson

Membership numbers, We have 69 members in the West MI. Chap-ter. Three that have been members for more than 30 years, John Linton Retired, Paul Knight Armstrong Hot Water and Gordon Ber-ridge Self employed. Thank-you. ASPE MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM EXTENDED! As many of you are aware, ASPE implemented a cost-savings membership program allowing past members of ASPE to reinstate their mem-bership at a significant discount. The deadline for this program was scheduled to end on Sep-tember 30th, 3013 but, based on many re-quests, the deadline has been extended to March 2014 and the guidelines for

the program have been adjusted:

· Originally the target audience repre-sented those who were unable to renew be-tween 1/1/2010-12/31/2012; now the pro-gram is opened to any past member of

ASPE (excluding 2013 lapsed membership).

· It still remains that the membership dues offer cannot be combined with any other membership promotional offering, transferred,

or used at a later time

· Member must use special membership application to receive the offering or they can

call ASPE membership staff and join via phone

· Past member can join as a new member for only $95 or if they wish to reinstate and keep past membership history they are able to pay $95 for current dues and $5 for each lapsed membership year! Because we are al-lowing them to pay past dues at such a re-duced rate for previous years, this special does not include any old copies of the PEDH. However, they will receive the next edition which is scheduled to ship February 2014. Regards,

Charlie
