Years 8 & 10 Examinations Final day Primary Athletics Carnival Primary Athletics Carnival Back up date
TERM UPDATES We are half way through the term and students are busy completing assessments and examinations. This is a busy time of the year when you throw in carnivals, representative sports and knock-out competitions and cultural excursions and opportunities. Reports have been distributed for Year 12 and Year 11 will follow closely behind. Parent Teacher Night will be held on the 7th June for Year 11 and 12 Students and I encourage all parents to take this opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers. If you cannot make the Parent Teacher Night and would still like an opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers, please contact the school and this will be arranged. CHANGES TO NSW SCHOOL STUDENT TRANSPORT SCHEME From May applications for school travel in rural and regional NSW will need to be completed online instead of using paper forms. Applications for 2017 open from the start of Term 4, 2016. Once you have confirmed your 2017 enrolment the online application can be accessed at transportnsw.info/school-students. If you do not have internet access you can call 131500 for assistance with your application. FUNDRAISING EFFORTS Last week MCS students Faith and Halle Archer, accompanied by their mother Natalie, decided they would like to help support our fund raising efforts by selling raffle tickets at the Molong Markets and raised over $200 for our P&C. There is an active fundraising committee within our P&C and they are dedicated towards improving our school and efforts like this are fantastic. There is also a P&C Street Stall and Wood Raffle on the 17th of June. Our P&C meet 3 times a term on Mondays at 7pm with the next meeting being on the 27th June. It is a great opportunity to get involved in the future planning and to keep in touch with what is happening at the school.
THIRD PLACE FOR HEIDI AT COMBINED HIGH SCHOOL KNOCKOUT Last week Heidi Townsend represented Molong Central and Western Region at the NSW CHS Hockey Knock Out. Heidi was the youngest member of the team which narrowly missed out on the final. Heidi was praised for her skill and outstanding sportsmanship. Congratulations Heidi.
VOLUNTEER BUS DRIVERS REQUIRED At our P&C meeting on Monday night it was discussed that the school is now in a position to buy a new bus and have engaged a professional to help with this process. Also raised was the need for more drivers. Sometimes the limiting factor for sending the School bus as opposed to requiring parents or teachers to transport students is the availability of a bus driver. Although several of our teachers have a licence to drive a bus many do not. A proposal was suggested that we develop a list of parent and community helpers who are prepared to drive a 21 seater bus to help our students’ access excursions and other extra-curricular activities. The appropriate drivers licence and a working with children check would be required. If you may be interested or know someone who would please contact the school so a list of names and numbers can be collated. Please note the following link that you would need to follow to obtain a “working with children check”. As you would be a volunteer, there will be no cost for this certificate, but it is a compulsory requirement; www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/check, or if you prefer you can email [email protected] or telephone 9286 7219 for more information. TOM KEMP FOOTBALL
Earlier this term the M.C.S. U/16’s Tom Kemp football side travelled to Gulgong to take on the defending champions in round one of the competition. The quality of football from both sides was at times impressive, with some high quality tries being scored. Molong allowed Gulgong to get away to a large half time lead through numerous handling errors, followed by some fairly ordinary defence. After a quiet chat at half time, Molong came out and played some innovative football and managed to claw back the lead with 10 minutes remaining. Unfortunately, Gulgong proved to be too strong and ran away with the victory in the final minutes. Congratulations to our boys who showed their true character to battle their way back into the game. Thank you to the parents and friends who came away to Gulgong to support the team. We now look forward to the C.S.K.O Rugby League 7’s to be held later this term. Mr M. Paterson, Coach ROTARY SUPPORT DRIVING COURSE
Molong Rotary has organised for the PCYC and the Orange Driving School to conduct their driving courses in Molong. The PCYC course comprises a three hour facilitated group discussion on how to manage risk on the road. It also includes a two hour in vehicle coaching session run by the Bathurst driving school. Participants must have completed 50 hours of driving experience to attend. Participants receive 20 hours credit recorded in their learner driver log book. Cost is $140 per student (of which Molong Rotary will cover one third of the cost).Ten students are required for the course to run. Orange Driving School will also conduct lessons in Molong if we have six or more students. Lessons will cost $40/ hour instead of the usual $60/ hour and Molong Rotary will also contribute one third of the cost of the course. Please contact me if interested. Mrs Anne Clark, Teacher
IMPORTANT INFORMATION With Yr 7-10 Half Yearly exams in full swing students should be now forming a strong routine of study. As students’ progress through school they can start to determine what works for them, are they visual learners, do they need hands-on techniques to make connections, are they good at summarising key points. Whatever techniques work for them, they then need to employ these as they prepare for exams. Students also need to remember that although the exam is very important there are other assessment tasks that also require their attention to obtain the most from any course. As such when students receive a task, (they will receive 2 weeks’ notice) they should immediately make a note of the due date in their diary, some parents have found the fridge to be a great spot to record all tasks and then tick them off as completed. These tasks are just as important as exams and give students the opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a task type that is different to exams. I encourage all parents to be aware of upcoming tasks so that they can encourage their child to produce their best work to hand in. On Tuesday 7th June there will be a Parent/Teacher/Student Interview Evening, can I encourage all parents with a child in Year 11-12 to make arrangements to meet up with teachers. This is a valuable opportunity to enable discussion which will assist our Senior Students as they prepare for the upcoming HSC.

Secondary News
PSC LEADERS DAY The PSC Leaders Day was held on Tuesday 24th May, involving approximately 100 students from Molong Central, Manildra, Cudal, Cumnock and St Joseph’s schools. This day allowed the Secondary students to apply the leadership skills that they have developed and refined over a number of months, to sporting activities with Primary students. There were several stations set up around Hunter Caldwell Oval, involving soccer, football, netball, modified games and activities, as well as obstacle courses and novelty events. The leaders were incredibly impressive; teaching, motivating and engaging the younger students for the duration of the day. Some of their duties included: the designing of skills and activities relevant to a specific sport or set of games, the delivery of instructions (including demonstrations) and desired outcomes of their respective events, gathering the required equipment, and setting up play areas prior to the commencement of the day. The behaviour and interest levels demonstrated by the primary students was outstanding throughout the full duration of the day, including recess and lunchtime, where all high school and primary students played and socialised on their own accord. This was one of the highlights of the day and certainly reconfirmed to the staff present that the students of Molong and the surrounding towns are a friendly, cohesive and caring group of individuals of whom we are very proud. We look forward with anticipation towards 2017, where the PSC team expect to coordinate a similar event, but on a larger scale. Congratulations to all of those students and staff involved for their contribution to this highly successful event. Finally, thank you to the coordinators of the PSC Leaders Day for the hours of preparation that they have put into this program. Mr M. Paterson, Teacher

Debating On Wednesday the 25th of May, Ella Kirby, Abigail
Cundy, Sophie Heath and Chloe Brouff accompanied
Mrs Brown to Bathurst to compete in a debate against
Bathurst West. The topic was Australia is the lucky
country. Our girls had to argue against this, and did a
very convincing job of arguing that Australia's
successes are the result of hard work and
determination, not luck. Ella Kirby lead out strong as
First Speaker. Abigail shone in her first debate whilst
Sophie has some great rebuttal to finish off our case.
Chloe worked hard for the whole debate, assisting the
girls with their rebuttals. Unfortunately we lost out
on the day, however, we received some constructive
feedback that will serve to make us stronger for the
next debate! The girls did an amazing job of
representing our school. Well Done!
National Simultaneous Storytime On Wednesday K-2 students participated in the
annual National Simultaneous Storytime. This year the
book was “I got this hat” by Jol and Kate Temple. All
the students made hats in class beforehand and wore
them while they heard the story, then read the story
themselves. There were some very colourful hats to
be seen. Thank you to Mrs Hall for organising our
participation in this event.
K-6 Disco On Wednesday, our term 2 disco was held, with the
theme of Crazy Hair. There were lots of amazing
hairstyles, which must have taken some mums a long
time to do. Money raised from this disco goes towards
the bus for the Stage 2 excursion. Thanks to Mrs
Brown for organising, and all the teachers who gave up
their time to help. The K-2 Excursion to Dubbo Zoo
was on Tuesday. Pictures and report will be in next
week’s newsletter.
