Dear Families,

THANKS to our teachers for the Semester One reports and for the Parent / Teacher interviews held on Monday. Much effort goes into both these vital aspects of teaching and our teachers have done a wonderful job with both this year.

THANKS also to the wonderful mums who helped make our Feast Day so successful. Feeding 250 people in a short time is a challenge, but our well oiled mum machine worked a treat. Thanks for your time ladies.

THANKS to the staff who prepared Mass and lunch ingredients, Bev Baxter and Bernadette Lynch especially. Our children’s excellent behaviour was noted on the day, mainly because we as a whole school were well organised thanks to those who coordinated them.

THANKS to everyone who has made the first half of the 2016 School Year such a successful one. With such a busy semester, it took a combined effort from school staff and families to make it all successful. Your efforts are appreciated everyone.

YOU would have noted that the process for finding a long term Principal for St Aloysius has started and we expect a new Principal to be announced early August. The new person will replace me starting late January 2017.

CONGRATULATIONS to our Year 2/3 boys who won the Futsal championship for their age group, while our Year 5/6 girls won the regional Netball final. Last week was a big one in the sporting field for St Aloysius. Well done everyone. On Friday 24 June, the last day of Term 2 school concludes at 2:30pm for students. On this day please remember you will need to make arrangements to pick up your children at this earlier time, and on time as they do tend to get distressed if they are late being picked up. School will resume with Term 3 starting on Monday, 11 July at 8.50am

Hope everyone has a safe and restful midyear holiday break.

The Christmas Raffle will be drawn at the end of the Children’s presentation.

Now that’s a lengthy title and one to

be proud. The boys played superbly

last Thursday to claim the title and

from all reports it was a seamless

display of teamwork, skill and

sportsmanship. Congratulations Boys!

In another impressive display of teamwork and

skill our Year 5/6 children had a terrific day

displaying all the right moves at the Catholic

Schools Regional Netball Championships.

A fantastic effort, well done everyone!

Our 3/4 netball team had another win last night.

Thank you to our families for supporting the girls.

JUNIOR NEWS

Welcome to our final week of Term 2. Many thanks to all our families who were able to attend Parent/Teacher interviews this week. It was a great opportunity to meet and discuss your child's progress and achievements. We encourage you to take the time to look through your child's Learning Journal and return them early next term. Yesterday we celebrated St Aloysius Feast Day. The children were involved in many activities and shared in a pizza lunch. We are most thankful to all those who volunteered their time on this day - without it events such as these are not possible. We would like to thank all our families for your ongoing support throughout this term. Have a restful and relaxing break. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2 weeks! Georgia and Leah. The Foundation Team.

Hello everyone. It is the last week and we are all very ready to have a HUGE REST after a very long term 2. The children have been absolutely incredible this term. The effort, work ethic and enthusiasm of the children has been truly amazing. Yesterday we celebrated St. Aloysius Feast Day with a beautiful mass. Thanks you to the children for their beautiful church manners and to the beautiful readers and children who did the offertory. The day went superbly. The activities were amazing and the children enjoyed the PIZZA making. I would like to thank the following parents who gave up their whole day to help me cook and prepare the pizzas. Chantelle Braeckmans, Jordan Braeckmans, Susan Clark, Kristen Cassells, Laura Clark, Tess Brodie, Bron Kennon, Kathy Mayne and Amber Ellard. Your work was amazing and completed with a smile! We would like to give a HUGE THANKS to all the parents and carers for you continued support and help to us in the Grade 1 and 2 area. We wish you a well-deserved break and rest over the holidays. Please note: There will be no Spelling work over the holidays. Kind regards, Bev, Savior and Shay.

MIDDLE NEWS

Greetings, everyone. This is the final week of a very busy 11 week term and we have finished with reports, Learning Journals, parent/teacher interviews and on Tuesday St Aloysius Feast Day celebrations. Last week we were very fortunate to have Tristan Earle's mum and his nanna, Elma, come and talk to us about life in the Philippines. We learnt that there are only 3 seasons in the Philippines - Summer, Autumn and Spring. The capital city is Manila and Elma grew up on the island of Cebu. School in the Philippines is very different to what we are used to here in Ballarat - 36 students in a class, enrolment of 1000 students, on arrival at school all students have to attend to their personal hygiene by brushing their hair, washing their hands, cleaning and trimming their fingernails, cleaning their teeth, if homework is not completed students have to sit in an air chair for 1 hour, sometimes school was 6 days a week, students had to walk to school and it sometimes took 1 hour, school hours are from 7:00am to 4:00pm, lunch is at 11:00am and sometimes students had to walk home for lunch. They have big markets and they sell lots of fish because many families rely on fishing to survive. Transport was minimal so the "shoe lace express" was the most common form of transport (walking). A big thank you to Mrs Townsend for organizing Tristan's mum and nan to visit and teach us so much about life in the Philippines. This term our students have learnt so much about our Asian neighbours whilst focusing on sport, food and occupations. Wishing all a happy, safe and restful holiday break. Jo, Anne and Kelvin

SENIOR NEWS

Hello and welcome to the final week of Term 2 from the Senior area. As we reflect on the past 11 weeks we think about all of the engaging learning experiences and opportunities we have had in the Year 5/6 area - Urban Camp, the Alpha Production show of, 'Aladdin', the Catholic Primary Schools Lightning Premierships for Football and Netball, African Drumming, our Sacramental Program and the, 'Matilda's visit to our school - just to name a few. Congratulations to our Catholic Primary Schools Lightning Premiership Netball team who won the championship last Thursday. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to have a chat to each of our families on Monday at our Parent/Teacher Interviews. Thank you to Signora Francesca, Mrs. Baxter, Ms. Enright and Mr. Porter for organising the exciting and engaging Italian activities for all of us to participate in for St. Aloysius Feast Day which was held yesterday. As well as our Italian Day yesterday, our children presented their, 'Geography Projects' in the form of an Expo and we were extremely proud of everyone of them. The time and effort that has been put into these, 'Geography Projects' has been wonderful and we would like to thank our children's families for their support with this inquiry. As a way of thanking our children for all of their efforts during Term 2, we are providing hot chips for lunch this Wednesday. Thank you again to all of our parents/guardians for your continued support throughout the term. We hope that your family has a safe, relaxing holiday and we will see you on Monday, July 11, 2016. June, Tamara and Katherine.

Cakes, slices and biscuits wanted...please!

Dear families, St Aloysius is a polling booth for the upcoming election on July 2nd and we thought this would provide an ideal opportunity to help raise some funds for our school by holding a cake stall…but we need your help. We understand it is in the middle of the school holidays, but we are hoping for families to donate something homemade. We are unable to accept cream, custard or items that need refrigerating, but other biscuits, cakes, slices etc., would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to make something to help fundraise for the school please let me know. The school will be open Friday 1st July from 8am-10am for morning drop offs of goods. Items will need to be supplied ready for sale in disposable packaging (not your good Tupperware) and an ingredients label (to place on your items packaging) can be picked up this week from the P&F tray in the foyer. Please contact Susan Clark 0419 383 442.

St Aloysius & Lumen Christi Deb Balls 2016

Thank you

The St Aloysius & Lumen Christie Debutante Balls have once again been a huge success this year presenting 35 debutantes over 2 nights. The money raised by the Debutante Ball Committee is entirely outside the school community taking the pressure off the extra internal fundraising at St Aloysius & Lumen Christi.

Firstly we would like to thank our dedicated team of Deb Ball committee members: Chantelle Braeckmans, Amber Thomassen, Danielle O’Donnell, Annette Torpey, Michelle Tapera, Regina Wilson, Narelle Vorstenbosch & Monica Musgrove. We would also like to say a very big thank you to our Flower Girls and Paige Boy: Mia Vorstenbosch, Mia Gartside, Hannah Keddie & Lawson Braeckmans. Our thanks also go to our MC’s this year for their professional presentations of the debs and partners: Jo Townsend & Amber Thomassen.

We would also like to acknowledge the staff and parents that assisted us on the door, set up of venue, photo booth and help within the photo room: Lesley Brown, Belinda Cooper, Angela Brooks, Michelle Brown, Sharee Stevens, Laura Clark, Emma Ashmore, Melanie Walsh, Michelle Bennetts, Sharon Cini, Katherine Peterkin, Donna Bryce, Kim Bott, Anne Enright, Tracey Hatchard, Susan Clarke, Kathy Mayne, Michelle Anderson. We are also extremely lucky to have the St Aloysius PS Auditorium available for the dance lessons, it provides a warm and secure venue for the debutantes and their partners to practice.

We would also like to thank - The Ballarat & District Trotting Club, Eric Langdon, Mad Cow, Andrew Wilson, Messer & Opie, One Shot Photography, Lou Lou’s Florist, SJH Entertainment and Quick Print for their ongoing support and professionalism which helps our debutante ball season run so smoothly.
