Although some may find this a bit cliché,

when looking back on women's history I

find Oprah Winfrey very influential.

Ms. Winfrey is a well known icon in my

future field of broadcast journalism. I now

anchor, and produce my schools television

show at Mckinney Boyd HS. Oprah Winfrey

is a prime example ,of not only a woman but, of an African-American woman who

overcame prejudice, superficial barriers, and life obstacles by relying on her raw

talent and motivation. It makes me feel that if I remain determined and focused

nothing can hold me back .

Ebony Francis

One of the most influential women to me is Oprah Winfrey...not only because of her wealth but

because of her ability to positively affect peoples lives and make a difference in the world

Kara Washington

Maya Angelou is themost influential womanto me because through all of the adversity shehas faced, she manages to channel all of the negativity and injustice into beautiful artwork, as shown in her poetry. As an artistic person myself, I greatly appreciate a strong black woman who can overcome a plight of harsh conditions and create wonderful, spiritual, and thought- provoking words synchronized into a structure, pleasing to the eye!

“The Art of Dining”Dining Etiquette Session was held at Bailey's Prime Plus in

Fairview. Soror Felicia reviewed place settings, how to approach the table, the different styles of dining, and other useful etiquette dining tips. She expressed that these skills will help them as they dine with

upper level management as they compete for internship or jobs.

Kayla and KaraWashington were born September 24, 1993

in Beaufort, South Carolina. They moved from South Carolina when they were just babies to Salt Lake City, Utah where they lived for several years. In 1998 they moved to the North Texas

area a place where they call home now and began to settle in and make a name for themselves.

The twins attend Wakeland High School in Frisco Texas and are very involved in several activities to include basketball (Kara), drill

team (Kayla), Black MBA Leaders of Tomorrow, National Honor Society, DECA, National Technical Honor society, Pearls and Ivy, servant leading-City Church in Proper Texas, and volunteering at

various non -profit organizations in the North Texas area. The girls were also selected to attend the Texas Governors' School at

Lamar University, SMU's Young Women in Engineering Camp and Microsoft's Digi Girls camp. Kayla was also state finalist in the Miss

Texas Junior Miss Pageant.

Kara plans to attend Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia and will major in a dual degree engineering program. Kayla plans on

attending TWU in Denton and will major in Fashion Merchandising.

Shana is a wonderful gift from God. We are proud to be her parents. She made a miraculous entry into the world.

She has been strong and determined since day one. She started my new year of 1993 off with a bang. Not only did she

decide to be born on January 1, 1993, she decided that she couldn't wait until I make it to a hospital. She was born in the

car as we approached the hospital. She fought her way through 20 degree temperatures and had everyone in an uproar

that day. It was then that I realized that my daughter was special. I knew that she was definitely going to make a

difference in the world. From Infancy until now she has always shown such a warm smile. She has a very kind heart and

she would rather give than receive.

She enjoys the idea of being big sister to three little brothers. The three of them truly treasure her. She is also loved

and admired by a lot of the kids in our community. When it comes to little kids, her level of patience is phenomenal. She

has volunteered her time helping out with kids during Sunday School and during Vacation Bible School. She is presently

a member of the McKinney North High School Choir. She loves to sing. Every Christmas that we travel home

to Mississippi, we always visit the nursing homes where she takes various opportunities to sing Christmas song to the

residents. She has a great compassion for helping others.

Shana is my only daughter. I couldn't imagine a life without her. She provides lots of energy and enjoyment to our

home. We are all so blessed to have her in our lives. She is indeed our sunshine on a cloudy day.

Both Chanel and Monet are dancers for Frisco Centennial High School

Sweethearts. The team competed on February 19, 2010 in Fort Worth Texas

in Modern, Hip Hop and Pom Dance routines. The team finished First in all

categories. The team also received awards for Best in Class, Team Super

Sweepstakes, Grand Champion Circle, Best Technique.

Dallas Black Dance Theater

The debutantes attended the Cultural Awareness Series performed by the Dallas Black Dance Theater at the AT&T

Performing Arts Center which was absolutely amazing.

The debutantes enjoyed a great performance by the dancers to music of various Negro Folk Music and the sounds of late

and current artists: Marvin Gaye, RayCharles, Nina Simone, Howard Hewett, Quincy Jones,

Aretha Franklin, and Pattie LaBelle.
