    Shrove TuesdayPancake Races

An annual period of fasting and general abstinence forms part of many cultures and its always been

important to have a bit of a party before those severe periods. Shrove Tuesday, the day before the start of

Lent on Ash Wednesday, was a time for festival and feasting prior to the rigours of Lent. Nutritious pancakes

formed a part of that feasting and somehow races with pancakes wove themselves into Shrove Tuesday.

Bronte happily follows this tradition, and this time we were blessed with some lovely low sunlight as each

class took its turn in these races, events with so much history behind them. How good as well to see so many

parents lining the race course. It was a tremendously fun and enjoyable occasion.

    Year 1 : Bradley & Joshveer, Amrit & Bailey

    Year 5 at St GeorgesChurch

Any parish church is richly filled

    with symbolism and art, beauty

    and history, St Georges,

Gravesend is a fine example of

    a major parish church, constructed

mostly in the early 18th Century.

Year 5 visited on Monday and

benefitted from a very full anddetailed tour.

Year 1 ParentsBriefing - What to do at Home tohelp Reading and Writing

With the best will in the world, it can sometime be

very hard for parents to remember quite what life

was like as a child. A common complaint of

teenagers, for example, is that their parents have

completely lost the plot about younger adult life!

Issues of parent-child connection are different for

    younger children of course.

Children in Reception and Year 1 are learning to

read and write, and it can be very difficult for any

parent to empathise with the huge challenges that

reading and writing presentfor the parents itsall

    such a long time ago.

On Wednesday, Year 1 teacher Mrs Nash held a

session for reception and Year 1 parents about how

best to help at home with children education, and

in particular how best to help with reading and

    writing.

    School Assembly

It was super to welcome to our Assembly this

morning, Mrs Lyn Stapley with Ava, the guide dog

puppy which she is so carefully training. Everyone

was very impressed with Avasstandard of training

and it was fascinating to hear about the work of a

guide dog trainer and to see in action how well Ava

    had been trained.

Year 6 Digital Leaders - Safer Internet Day

Two of our Year 6 pupils, Rio and Diya represented

Bronte at the Year 6 Digital Leaders event

organised by Kent Police to coincide with Safer

Internet Day on Tuesday. They learnt a great deal

and will be passing on the information to other

pupils over the next few weeks.

They also met the Chief Superintendent, NeilJerome and the Crime Commissioner, Anne Barries.
