    9 October 2015

Years 3 and 4 had a fantastic trip to Horton Kirby environmental Education Centre on Tuesday. They walked around the village hunting for clues that helped those to think about why a settlement grew there and how it has developed over time. They were encouraged to think about how different people in the community would feel about Horton Kirby. The children also used a map of the area to plan their own settlement. The children had some fantastic ideas about what they would include if they were planning a settlement, after all, who wouldn't want the Houses of Parliament or the Statue of Liberty in their village!

The Friends AGM on Friday 2nd October was most productive, and thank you very much to all who attended. The AGM is the time when a new Committee is formed, and I am pleased to be able to let you know about the 2015 16 Committee. It is chaired by myself, and the members are: Vice-Chair: Mrs Shand (mother of Brandon (Y3) & Corey (Yr 1)) Treasurer: Mrs Egan (school secretary emeritus) Secretary: Mrs Dio (mother of Taran (Year 5) Parent members:

Mrs Onochie-Oputa: (mother of David (Year 2)) Mrs Goldsworthy (mother of Keeva (Year 4)) Mrs Bains (mother of Jeevan (Year 6)) Staff members:

Mrs Gordon (Deputy Head) Mrs Prescott ( Year 5 Class Teacher, SENCO) Mrs Mason (School Office Administrator) At the meeting it was good to review the past year: all at the school were truly grateful to the Friends for fundraising for the purchase of the smartboard in the Computer Room. Its been an absolutely invaluable addition to the room. We looked back as well on a very successful summer fayre, a fine quiz night, a pamper evening, mulled wine after Christingle, and much else besides. The next Friends fundraising event is Friday 23rd Octobers Bad Hair Day

Many congratulations to Oliver Dunne (Year 4) who completed a 12km Twilight walk on 12 September in aid of the Ellenor Hospice. This started at the Cyclopark and continued through Gravesend. Very well done, Oliver. Termly Calendar and Term Dates Children will be bringing home a printed calendar card today with details of this terms event date. Please pick up more copies from the school office if you wish. The card is obviously somewhat tardy for the start of term, but is really a trial: the intention is to ensure that future cards will be given out on the first day of each term. The calendar is also on the website of course. Car Park Lastly, can I ask again that parents request that you do not use the school car park between 8.30am 8.45am and 3.30pm 3.45pm as this can cause a clog-up and is potentially hazardous. The Church car park is available for pick-ups and drop-offs. We remain grateful to the Church for this. Just occasionally the gate can be locked and we will always try to send out a Parentmail beforehand if we are aware.
