Have a go Secondary school throws up some amazing challenges, so take them on! Try your hand at music, writing clubs, productions, peer support groups or sporting teams. Please always remember the following piece of advice: If you reach for the stars, you’ll land on the moon. Farewell This year we say goodbye to six families. Thank you to Jenny and Ken Elkan, Tony and Fia Hughes, Naomi and Jason Leask, Adam and Lynette McDonald, Kellie and Brendan McDonald and Cassie and Brad Rockett and I would personally like to thank them for everything that they have done in supporting the entire Oxley Primary School community. Please do not be strangers, call back, and see us on occasion or even to attend functions that we might be running. ‘It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later’. Yeah! Last year Mrs Aumann put this piece in the newsletter and a year later 2 have become three!

MISS TUCCITTO, OOPS I MEAN MRS AUMANN As many of you know, I got married on the 12th of November. I just wanted to take the time to publicly thank everyone from the Oxley PS community who have passed on well wishes. It was an absolutely fabulous day and it means so much to know that many people have shared what they were thinking of us on the day! Just another reminder of how lucky I am to be a part of this wonderful school. What some of you may not know is that I asked the grade 2-4 students to write about what love means and to give some advice for the future. This was then read out at

our ceremony by Deb, our class support staff member (and my Mum)! Thank you once again and enjoy the holidays, Nadia Aumann

Roy Leonard Aumann We would like to congratulate Nadia and Tim on the safe arrival of Roy Leonard Aumann surprising them 3 weeks early on the 18/12/17 at 11:14 pm, weighing 3.28 kg. They are both in love with their little man.

The Oxley Residents Association have very kindly donated the use of the Oxley Hall to the brigade to run a Family event on Friday January 19th commencing at 6pm. Below is the CFA Junior Development Program. While the majority of the kids at the school would be under the commencement age of our junior program, everyone is welcomed to participate on the day.

Activities will include:

BBQ

An opportunity for kids (and their parents) to have a go at some ‘hands on’ practical fun fire fighting activities

Community Safety information on summer fire season preparedness and safety around the home

Please get behind this wonderful community initiative.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease Just a quick note to let you know that I have heard that there have been a few cases of Hand Foot and Mouth in the Wangaratta area so I thought that I would include information about this virus in the newsletter. Clinical features HFMD occurs mainly in children younger than 5 years of age. It can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms and lesions usually persist for 7–10 days. The clinical picture consists of fever, and vesicular lesions on the buccal surfaces of the cheeks, gums and sides of the tongue, beginning as small red spots that blister and often become ulcers. Papulovesicular lesions of the palms, fingers and soles commonly occur over a 1–2-day period. Occasionally, maculopapular lesions appear on the knees, elbows, buttocks and genital area. Some people, especially young children, may become dehydrated if they are not able to swallow enough liquids because of the painful mouth sores. Complications include viral (aseptic) meningitis with headache, stiff neck and sensitivity to light, but this is rare. Inflammation of the brain (encephalitis), paralysis or pulmonary oedema (fluid in the lungs) can occur, but are also very rare. Fingernail and toenail loss have been reported, but this is only temporary, and nails grow back without medical treatment. Diagnosis Diagnosis of HFMD is usually clinical. Depending on how severe the symptoms are, samples from throat, vesicle or stool are the most useful specimens for confirming the diagnosis of HFMD. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) can be used to confirm the diagnosis. Incubation period of hand, foot and mouth disease viruses The incubation period is 3–7 days. Public health significance and occurrence of hand, foot and mouth disease HFMD occurs worldwide, sporadically and in epidemics. The greatest incidence is in summer and early autumn. In tropical and subtropical countries, circulation of the virus tends to be year-round, with more outbreaks in the rainy season. Outbreaks occur frequently among groups of children in childcare centres and schools.

What a fantastic day we had riding into the Splash Park yesterday with a wonderful group of students.
