R.R.Words of the Month: inclusion, universal

Dear Parents and Carers
It may be dark and chilly outside… but inside Parkhill Junior School, it is sunny and hot! Hot
with learning challenges and sunny with the celebration of achievement. Well done to all our
learners this term thus far.
November 2017 has been a particularly notable one. Our school environment has seen an
ocean of change, as the expansion work takes visible and significant shape. It is a source of
fascination for our learners and we are using every opportunity to create a learning point
around it. Our Health and Safety poster competition, demonstrates how every event and
change can be a learning opportunity.
‘Well done’ to all who entered the competition – the standard of all entries was commendably
high. Congratulations to our winners David, Deepyand Nylah.
Fairtrade Fayre raised over £100.00 thanks to our young artisans and craftspeople in Years
Three and Four.
2
Children in Need – has raised over £1000 so far as a result of our Dance-a-thon and your
generous contributions! A huge ‘Thank You’ to all, for your participation and support.
Our Children in Need Movie Evening was a great success and we are already planning another
one. Watch this space.
AFTERSCHOOL CLUBS Breakfast club and all afterschool clubs are up and running. If you have any queries, please
direct them to the Admin Team at the reception. Last week for clubs this term will be the
week beginning 04th December 2017
UNIFORM
Uniform rules remain the same… for very sensible reasons.
Please ensure that the correct uniform is worn by your child.
Jewellery: ear studs and watches are the only jewellery permitted. Fitbits are not permitted.
In the interests of health and safety, children’s hair should be appropriately styled or tied back.
Head scarves: must be navy blue, white, black or grey.
Footwear: should be black, sensible and safe. Ugg boots and trainers are not permitted.
Sensible sandals that children can run and play in can be worn during good weather.

SAFETY AND SAFEGUARDING
Top of our list of priorities - safety of our pupils.
We encourage all our children to walk to school. Significantly reducing the volume of traffic
around Parkhill Junior School and our feeder school Parkhill Infants’ is our ongoing
challenge. Support us by walking, cycling or simply park further away and walk.
Bicycles: Children in Years 3 to 5 are encouraged to cycle to school but must be accompanied by a
parent/carer. All children must wear a protective cycling helmet.
During lunch hour, children are instructed to stay clear of the outer fence. This is to ensure that
they do not speak to passers-by and vice versa. Please remind your child of this and, equally, expect
to be challenged politely, by a member of staff.
Thinking of employing a private tutor? Important guidance for parents and
carers. Visit the website below for more information

ding/safeguarding_children_board/publications_policies_and_pro/private_tuition.aspx
Appointments with teachers. If you wish to meet with your child’s teacher, to discuss a
particular issue, please note that this can take place no earlier than 8:30 am and no later than
4:15pm, outside standard scheduled Parent Evenings.
HOT CHOCOLATE AND READING MORNINGS Last year, our hot chocolate and reading mornings were a roaring success! They provided a
wonderful opportunity for our learners to read with their parents/carers. After half term, they will
begin again. Please see timetable below.

REPORTING AN ABSENCE Please ensure that you advise the school of your child’s absence on the same day of the absence. If
the absence is reported by telephone, please note that a written explanation or email of the
absence, must also be given to the school.
UNCOLLECTED CHILDREN School must be notified immediately, if there is a delay in your child being collected at the end of
the day. Failure to do so, may result in the school contacting The Emergency Duty Team (Social
Services) Late collection can cause a child unnecessary distress. Please remember, we are here to
help.
LEAVE REQUESTS DURING TERM TIME There has been a significant amount of publicity regarding term time holidays this year. Holiday
requests during term time remain unauthorised and subject to a fine. PLEASE NOTE that in
keeping with local authority policy, a penalty fine has increased to £120.00 per child per parent, in
Redbridge. If further information is required regarding this, a meeting with the Head teacher and
Educational Welfare Officer can be arranged.
