SCHOOL OPEN AFTERNOON
It was wonderful to have a big turnout of parents and
family members at our School Open Afternoon last
Friday to enjoy the musical performances, open
classrooms, and the surrounds of our stunning school
grounds. The performances of the students in the
School Choir and the Pre-primary to Year 3 singing
group were superbly led by Mr Bathols, as were the
Guitar Group by Mr Graham, over many weeks leading
up to the performance and on the Day.
Congratulations to all the students who show cased
their skills and passion of music in these performances
and for their dedication to their musical group this
year.
The Open Afternoon is a key event for our school in
the calendar year with all staff working hard towards
making the event a success. Thank you to: - all
teaching staff and classroom assistants for their
wonderful work in presenting their classrooms for the
Opening; to our Gardeners for their ongoing work in
making our school grounds look magnificent; and also
to our Office staff, Admin, and support staff for the
behind the scene arrangements, preparation of the
Library, and contributions towards the event.

VALUES AND WASTE WISE WALL MURAL
A huge thank you to the partnership of the artistic
work of Mr Bathols and the building/carpentry skills of
Mr Burrow; and the wonderful contributions of artistic
ideas by a group of Year 5 and Year 6 students. These
elements combined to create a stunning Values and
Waste Wise Wall Mural in the undercover area. The
wall mural depicts Buddy Bear (our Values program
mascot) and a Value of the Month display, and
highlights Waste Wise as a key environmental
program in our school.
VOLUNTEER THANK YOU MORNING TEA
Our school volunteers are the backbone of the
school in supporting the children with fundraising
and many school events including excursions. The
annual morning tea provides us with an opportunity
to thank all our volunteers for supporting the school
and will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday 3 December.
An invitation has been sent out to all families,
through the children, inviting all parents,
grandparents, carers and community members who
have volunteered their time to support the children
at the school. Please mark the date in your diaries
and look out for the invitation to join the staff at the
school for the morning tea.

ARMISTICE/REMEMBRANCE DAY.
Last Monday 11 November, at 11:00 am, marked the
anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First
World War (1914 – 1918). Our students honoured all
those who served and died in all wars and armed
conflicts by commemorating Armistice Day, also
known as Remembrance Day, by observing one
minute’s silence in the school’s Heritage Garden in
front of the Memorial Garden.

IPADS FOR YEAR 3S
This year we are again partnering with JB Hi-Fi to
provide an option for parents wishing to buy their
Year 2 students an iPad in preparation for Year 3.
Buying an iPad from JB Hi-Fi has many benefits and
we have worked with JB Hi-Fi to ensure they are
offering the correct model with a range of
accessories and extended warranties at competitive
prices. Letters regarding specific information will be
sent out early next week.
THINKUKNOW
Thank you to all those parents who attended the
ThinkUKnow presentation. Having spoken to some
parents I know more parents are keen to attend
another workshop so we are working with the
Federal Police to try and organise another workshop
in Term 1 2020.
One of the key messages Ben shared is the
importance of knowing what apps your children are
on and creating parental settings to block
inappropriate content. Ben also spoke to the
students about the importance of being
unidentifiable online so not wearing school uniforms
and not using correct names. Further information
and resources can be taken straight from the
ThinkUKnow website.
Other tips to balance screen time include:
1. Make rules about screen use
2. Aim for short screen time sessions
3. Get your child moving, especially outside
4. Imagine and create
5. Encourage play and friendship with others
6. Avoid screen time before bed
7. Keep screens out of bedrooms at night

DANGER TO DOGS LEFT IN CARS
The school would like to remind parents about the
danger of leaving dogs in cars. On a 29oC day the
temperature inside a car can reach 44oC in just 10
minutes and a lethal 60oC in just 20 minutes. These
sort of temperature increases are seen even if the
windows are cracked open or if the day is overcast.
Dogs can’t cool themselves down as efficiently as
humans do and will succumb to heatstroke quickly.
They are covered in fur and can only lose heat through
the pads of their feet and sweating. So please leave
you dogs at home when you come to collect your kids.
