NEWSLETTER 2019
year’ series. You are welcome to b keep you all up to date and find out what your Design “requirements” are.
vincing our clients that Design is all about developing a Design Scheme that reflects your own personality & Lifestyle… NOT about copying any particular Designer or Decorator which I have witnessed regularly in the Industry this Year! A knowledgeable Desig ner should not need to do that. Let us Lanes develop your INTERIOR to suit YOU and YOUR Lifestyle. We will look forward to seeing you in 2018. W e are still open after hours by appointment for your convenience
DESIGN & DÉCOR MELBOURNE 2017 : This year we attended Design and Décor in Melbourne. We managed to discover many new
trends and found s ome wonderful Design pieces. Unique /Interesting and more Natural Design is in this next year! Brass is the NEW metal – silver metallic will re - surface in 2018. Powdery Pinks are very now with golds and greys along with corals and Nudes – these will
be fading venturing into 2018. Accessorise with these colours in Furnishings rather than permanent fixtures. There is still a
strong Earthen Luxury desired by all of us Or
which will influence everything .
RATTAN & CANE:
I love Rattan and Cane – reminds me of my Childhood & Gladly inherited some
proper Manilla Cane from My Mum w hich I still have.
It is tough and d urable and really suits the less pretentious look that is
preferred at present .
Dress it u p with some Beautiful Washable
available in Natural, Tea Stain, WhiZZ or painted in a ny colour .
Hello Clients, Colleagues & friends
It is Christmas time again and feels like it has blown-in with one
of the many “Dust Storms “.
What hideous weather conditions we have had this year…. it
has been a challenging time to say the least with the on-going
drought and fires!
However, we have still managed to work on some wonderful
projects and deal with some very special clients. Thank you to
all of those who chose to work with us.
TRENDS FOR 2020
We will try to keep it short and sweet this
year. Here are some of the predicted
trends.
WALL PANELLING
This is a great Design Tool, looks great, is
affordable & gives your space the “Wow”
factor. It looks really effective on a
bedhead wall.
FEMININE SHAPES
In 2020 we will see softer and curvier
shapes that contrast with raw materials
such as concrete and brass.
Curved lines and silhouettes will be visible
in design e.g. Significant in vases, floor
lamps and seating.

Wall Panelling Feminine Shapes
WASI SABI. ( Japanese philosophy in find i ng BEAUTY in IMPERFECTION) is the go .
People are preferring things worn - giving more character and
texture …… Crackled effects, weathering & oxidisation. Dark
woods and Earthy tones are back. There will be a sh ift away from the Scandinavian Look - Rosewood, Walnut,
Mango wood along with Charring effects will be popular.
WINDOW FURNISHINGS:
Curtains are returning with a vengeance both in plains, and patterns Some are opting for pattern but most enjoying floaty, natural Linen Sheers. Phone Jennie to give you the most creative, suitable curtain option. She will also help with your heading and track options. We have an enormous range of samples to work with. We still provide numerous options of Blinds and Shutters – along with our Fabric Roman & Roller Blinds.
SOURCING FURNITURE & UPHOLSTERY:
Can’t F ind that special piece of Furniture ? Jennie can find anything for you and we also can provide Custom Lounges and Chair s . We can even send you to the factory to have your s ofas or Chairs Custom made to your required measurements. Along with this we can organis e all your Upholstery and re - vamp your old furniture.
WALLPAPER:
We have huge ranges to choose from. Do make an appointment and come in and select from our
l ibrary. Our Customers at present tend to be using wallpaper more as a feature wall - not on all walls
in a room.
COMMERCIAL WORK:
Yes, we are still doing some wonderful Commercial projects. light in this area was being chosen by Kaloma Home in Goondiwindi to do their whole Design Project
mplete supply of Window Furnishings , F urniture and Fabrics for their new 32 Bed Extension. The complete installation was completed earlier in the year. It was a rewarding and Challenging project with a great end response. Great care was taken to give the facility a more fresh, homely environment. Thank you to Penni Roberts C.E.O. & the Board for trusting me to fulfi l their project.
ART DECO
We are steering away from
straight lines and leaning towards
shapes reflective of Modern Art
Deco ……we will witness many
more curves especially in
bathroom & kitchen design. Art
Deco Motifs such as sunrises and
chevrons will be used.
BACK TO NATURE
We will be using pieces that embrace the NATURAL world from the
earth and sea-pebbles, shells, large plants, and dried fronds……. Looks
great with stone and timber.
TERRAZZO
Terrazzo is fabulous and we will be “best
friends” with it in 2020. It has great
texture and will be used in Bathrooms &
Kitchens. I love it!
EARTHY TEXTURES
Organic forms & earthy textures will be
used in muted, dusty tones. These will
dominate interiors …. There will be much
more use of fabric such as Boucle, tweed,
felt and wool.

HANDMADE CREATIONS
Handmade ceramics and Arts and Crafts
will be used to give your interiors a more
personal touch. Pottery bowls, Crocheted
Throws, Collage etc.

FLUTED GLASS
This will very popular in lighting, privacy
panels, shower screens. It will also be used
inset into kitchen & bathroom joinery to give
more interest and character. Fluted glass fits
well with the Art Deco Style.
KEEPING UP TO DATE
In June had 3 wonderful days in Melbourne, one of which we spent
attending Denfair …….one of our more up-market Design Fairs. We saw
many amazing products. Beautiful rugs, Beautiful Australian Made
Furniture, Fabrics, Wallpaper, Outdoor products, & Objet d’Art were
abundant.
Next year we will do Design and Décor for a change. There were no
International One - Of Speaker Seminars to attend but shall catch up with
those in 2020. We also had 2 days to wander around Melbourne and enjoy
its wonderful URBAN Ambience!! I think this rounds off 2019.
We are still offering all our great products in the Studio: Blinds, Shutters,
Curtains, Fabrics, Upholstery, Lampshades, Cushions, Bedcovers, New
Furniture etc. Do make an appointment and come in and see what we can
offer you.
Of course, we are still offering Design and Colour Consultations if you
cannot decide on your décor or colours. We do hope 2020 is free of
Drought and Fire & is much more optimistic for all. I
f you need our help over the Christmas and New Years break, please
phone us on 0417 633 566.
CONCRETE
This will be fitted into a more RAW
interior design concept, mainly
used for floors, kitchen and
bathroom benches and even for
“free-standing” bathtubs.
BRASS ACCENTS
2019 has been all about BLACK
tapware and now it is all about
BRASS. Brass will be the new trend
for the next couple of years. There
is some “out - there” brushed brass
hardware on the market. I have
also seen very interesting Brass
lighting. However, you need to use
a good solid brass for tapware in
Toowoomba as our water is very
corrosive
