It was signed in May and the deposit paid. The scheduled install date is August when the Carlisle Church is closed. Hopefully the new elevator will be operational when the Church services resume in September. The total cost will approximate $75,000. Andy Tarrant, Chair of The Trustees Our objective is to raise $38,000, which covers 50% of the total elevator project cost. The remainder is being funded by the Planned Gift Fund. We have established a Fund-Raising Committee which had its kick-off meeting on June 18. If you would like to join our committee and participate in an uplifting experience, please contact me. We invite ideas for our fund-raising campaign. Prayer Circles

Monthly prayer circles are held in the parlour to support one another, our church family and those who are in need due to illness, bereavement or other concerns. We meet at 12:45 p.m. Group meetings will not be held during July and August, but we will continue to uphold our congregation in our daily prayers. Please note the dates for Fall: Monday September 9, Tuesday October 15, Monday November 11 and Monday December 9. Joan Eagle

LST (Lay Supervision Team) This committee has officially ended its responsibilities as of March 31, when Gavin’s evaluation was sent to The Atlantic School of Theology. We will continue to check in with Gavin as needed. Feedback is always welcome directly to Gavin, LST members or the Church Board through the office.

Frankie and the Fairlanes Concert Please mark your calendars for another fun concert from our local favourite Michael Lambert aka Frankie, and his group the Fairlanes. The concert will be Saturday November 23 at 7 pm.

This is a completely new show for 2019, called “Good Rockin Tonight”, presenting all the greatest hits from the 1950s and 60s with humour and lots of interesting facts about the songs we love. There is also a feature highlighting Canada’s contribution to the music scene as we journey across the continent. A great show for all ages. Tickets will be available in the fall.

Free Family Portrait

We are pleased to announce that we are planning a new Church photo directory this year. Photography and publication will be handled by the professionals at IPC Photo, a Canadian company.

• Each family who participates will receive a free 8” x 10” colour photo

• Church member families who participate will receive a free copy of the Church Directory

• Photos taken in November will be ready for giving as gifts at Christmas

Anyone may sit for a family portrait. You do not need to be associated with the Church or included in the Church Directory. We will be extending this offer of a free portrait to families who participate in Messy Church and in our Scouting and Guiding groups. Your children, grandchildren and well-behaved pets are also welcome.

The photographer will be working at Kilbride United Church on Monday November 4, and at Carlisle United Church on Tuesday November 5 and Wednesday November 6. All photo sessions will be scheduled in half hour intervals from 1:30 to 8:30 pm.

Please mark your calendars now for these dates, and encourage your family and neighbours to participate. A sign-up schedule will be available closer to the time.

Migrant Workers’ News

By the time your read this, our spring event to welcome our migrant workers will have taken place. I feel sure that there are now many well-dressed and well-fed workers in our local fields and nurseries who have fond memories of a happy evening spent among us with their colleagues on Sunday June 23.

For the first time in many years the event dates for the local churches will have no central co-ordinator, as several congregations have branched out into other forms of collaborative entertainment for the migrants. Our church Board has opted for continuing with the traditional dinners, as it was felt that retaining ownership of these events allows us to establish a closer relationship with the workers as well as engaging the entire community in a fun and festive outreach.

We can also take pride in how these occasions give our church visibility amongst the local farm/nursery owners and in the broader community. I recently had occasion to visit a local nursery to make a purchase when I noticed a young Jamaican man watering the plants. In a discussion with one of the owners, I learned that they employ six Jamaicans for the season. She explained that they live in a house on the property and they even have their own car. Occasionally the owners and workers get together and share a case of Heineken. Despite these great conditions, she mentioned that they are lonely and away from their families for several months. They are very grateful for the hospitality extended to them by our churches and the opportunity to have some fun together. She commended our congregation for the kindness shown to their seasonal workers.

To all who have signed up to contribute your time, talents, bicycles and gifts to our spring dinner, a sincere thanks. I feel sure that our next newsletter will contain an account of a wonderful evening, great food, appreciative guests and a community united in its kindness and caring.

Status Report on Minister’s Job Performance Survey The M&P committee wish to thank all who responded to the survey by answering the questions and providing comments. Several of you supplied supplementary sheets containing additional comments. We received 23 responses from Kilbride and 54 from Carlisle for a total of 77 responses. Voice to text technology was used to compile the comments which totalled 23 pages. A particular thanks to the two special people who provided the technical expertise which allowed this to happen.

The survey met its objective in that it clearly identified areas of greatest strength and sections that require more emphasis and effort. All this enabled us to perform a quantitative and qualitive analysis of the results as well as to structure a recommendation to the Joint Board regarding Gavin’s contract. This will give you the current status of where we stand with the survey and our timetable: May 5 Survey results, analysis and

discussion with Gavin, Rev. Jenna Baker (representing Pastoral Relations) and M&P committee. Gavin provided with some time to absorb the results and the comments. (Completed).

June 9 Meeting scheduled with Gavin, Rev.

Allison Playfair (Pastoral Relations) and M&P committee to address how we will work in partnership to address the identified weaknesses and our proposed recommendation to the Joint Board regarding Gavin’s contract.

June 11 Special Joint Board Meeting with

M&P committee at which survey results and contract recommendation will be presented by M&P.

Following a decision by the Joint Board, it is expected that a congregational meeting will be scheduled to disseminate the survey information and to conduct a poll on the contract action. It is understood that by press time, most of these dates will have passed but this will provide you with some history and background information. M&P Committee

Carlisle Festival 2019

The Festival Committee sincerely thanks all the volunteers, donors, sponsors and attendees who made this year’s Festival a big success. We couldn’t manage this great fund-raiser without your help! This year we sold 481 tickets and served 461 meals. The Scouts sold about 75 hot dogs. And we managed to come up with 105 donated pies for the eager eaters. There were 331 items in the Silent Auction and all but a tiny handful went to happy new owners. Everyone seemed to enjoy the entertainment: Jocelyn Russell, the Songbirds of Waterdown and Bobby Allan’s Superstar Tributes. Huge thanks to Bob Napholc for sharing his musical talents without charge. You will notice the names of some of our generous sponsors on the Church’s outdoor sign over the summer. This is a small way of thanking the 18 businesses who supported the Festival this year. The Spring plant sale, which is an adjunct fund-raising effort organized by Linda Dodman, sold 31 flats of geraniums and 26 flats of begonias. Thanks, Linda, for all your work. Particular thanks to the Carlisle Pathfinders for handling the huge task of recycling. We were also thrilled to have a team of volunteers from the Royal Bank in Waterdown this year. We appreciated Gavin’s help greeting the guests. Next year we will be looking for a few extra volunteers to assist people with canes and walkers by carrying their plates, and another team to assist with carrying auction items to cars after the event. Total Festival receipts were $27,500, with expenses totalling approximately $9,300, for a net of $18,200. From this, we will be donating to our designated charities this year: Flamborough Food Bank, Ontario Gleaners and Wesley “Case for Kids”. There are just too many individual contributors for us to thank each of you personally. But we

want you to know that every effort – large and small – is appreciated. Thank you, each and every one, for your support. The Carlisle Festival Committee

UCW June Report Yea! The meetings are finished until September. We had our annual lunch out on Wednesday June 12 and most of the ladies were able to attend. The food was good and we didn’t have to cook or clean up. Whenever the strawberries are ready some of our members will meet to pick, package and freeze them for pies. During the summer the ladies make the jams and jellies, pickles and relishes, and other canning for the deli at the Christmas Bazaar. Others continue to knit, sew, crochet and craft the many items that we need for the Bazaar. The Bazaar this year will be held on Saturday November 16. Last year we were given many, many bins of “stuff”. Of course, we already have a cupboard stuffed with “stuff”. We have spent many of our meetings this year sorting through all our accumulated fabric, craft supplies and Christmas decorations. We need to purge! On Saturday October 19 from 10am to 3pm we are having a “Clean Out Our Cupboard” sale. There are many kinds of fabrics, lace and trims, yarn, various crafting supplies and a few bins of Christmas decorations. Please help us out. Bring lots of your friends and come to our sale. I’m sure that between now and October 19 we will find some more “stuff” that needs new homes.

Enjoy your summer.
