Another year has passed and we’ve just added six new lieutenants to our list of AFROTC Det 630 alumni. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first year here teaching, molding, and mentoring future leaders of the AF and I have also had the pleasure of meeting, talking on the phone, and corresponding via e-mail with many of our distinguished alumni (you’re all distinguished in my book). I look forward to meeting even more of you in the upcoming few years. Cindy, Thanks so much for the email! This was a pleasant and encouraging interlude during my day. It’s amazing to see how Det 630 has grown since my graduation and commissioning in 1994, and I’m pleased to see that the current cadet corps is just as motivated and energized as we were. The amount of memorabilia is impressive, and has motivated me not to be outdone by Joe Galleti! I’ve attached a photo in response to your request—the patches will be en route soon. This photo is from one of my most rewarding moments, as a former student of archaeology and anthropology at KSU, a field which still intrigues me. As Deputy Chief, USCENTAF Commander’s Action Group, I was escorting Lt Gen North, USCENTAF/CC, on a tour of US air bases in Iraq in 2006. Ali air base (formerly Tallil) was located near An Nasiriyah, and the fenced perimeter included this site, the fable Ziggurat of Ur, a millennia-old religious site from possibly the first city in civilization’s history, and later birthplace of the biblical Abraham. We were given a personal tour by the former head curator of the national museum of Iraq (long out of work at that time), and got to climb the 4,000-year-old steps to the top of this edifice and survey the ruins of ancient Sumeria below. It was a breathtaking moment, as many archaeologists have never had this opportunity. Only in the USAF! Thanks again for the newsletter, it brings back many great memories of my time at Det 630. Please pass my sincerest “good luck” to Lt Col Krempasky, the chief cat-herder! V/R, Rob ROBERT C. HUME, Lt Col, USAF Joint Warfare Instructor ACSC/DEW

Ms Smith, I appreciate the recent Det 630 newsletter. KSU has been on my mind recently as read about the winter storm that closed the university earlier this week. I can’t remember a time in my four years when winter storms closed the university. At least you will have a nice white blanket of snow for Christmas. The enclosed photo was taken in the back of an armored vehicle somewhere in the Southwest Asia theater. When I graduated in 1992, carrying a rifle into combat was the furthest thing from my mind. I was one of handful of Airmen deployed with Soldiers and Marines. It was a great experience. Happy Holidays, Vern TERRY C. SISSON, Lt Col, USAF Deputy Director, 20 AF/A9 FE Warren AFB, WY

Good Afternoon, I am getting ready to deploy to Camp Phoenix so I will send some patches and coins soon as I get out that direction. Thanks, Lt Matt Igo

Cindy, Thanks for tracking me down and sending this to me! Let me know if you’re ever desperate for a guest speaker. DAN CRAWFORD, Colonel, USAF Reserve Advisor to AFGSC/A5 & 8 Deputy Director for Plans & Programs

Cindy, Thanks for the newsletter and update. It's great to see the AFROTC Det 630 family and spirit is alive and well back in the states. Give my regards to all the staff and fellow cadets. Let them know we're eager to have them join us in the active duty ranks. I look fondly on my memories as a cadet. My fellow classmates and I communicate regularly from all around the world, even after all these years. I wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and an amazing new year 2011! Best regards, Pete "Goose" Agosto c/o '94 //SIGNED// INES M. AGOSTO, Lt Col, USAF Deputy Chief/TE&MA, NATO CAOC 7 Larissa, Greece

Ms. Smith - the newsletter looks great!! Thanks, v/r Jim (Class of 94) JAMES R. BURLEIGH, Lt Col, USAF Senior Duty Officer 624th Operations Center (AFCYBER) Lackland AFB TX

I love the news letter and I would like to continue to receive it. I am an Instructor Pilot on the C-17 at Altus, Ok. I don't get back there very often, but if I can help with base visit and things like that, just let me know. Maj Chad Harris Ass't Director of Operation

Ms. Smith, Thank you for the newsletter. I was so happy to receive it and had a quick trip down memory lane (the parts of my memory that are still functioning properly...age is working it's memory magic). I hope to be able to help the detachment any way I can. Sincerely, Lt Col Dave Spehar DAVID J. SPEHAR, Lt Col, MI ANG 191st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Commander

Cindy, Merry Christmas from Bagdad. There are at least two of us KSU grads serving over here in Baghdad (Lt Col Joe Less and I). I will probably swing through the Det sometime this coming fall since my daughter was just accepted to Kent. Look forward to meeting you. All the best, Rob Pata ROBERT L. PATA, Lt Col, USAF Chief, Director's Action Group ITAM-AF Cindy,

Cindy, Thanks for including me on the distro list for the newsletter. It was great to see how that place is going; it seems to be making some real progress. Tomorrow the five of us Det 630 Alumni stationed at Ellsworth AFB will be getting together for a picture. We hope to get it to you soon. Very respectfully, Neale NEALE "FOD" LINGE, 1 LT, USAF Chief, 37 BS Intelligence 28 Bomb Wing, Ellsworth AFB SD

Good Afternoon, I am getting ready to deploy to Camp Phoenix so I will send some patches and coins soon as I get out that direction. Thanks, Lt Matt Igo

Thanks Cindy it's a very nice read. Do you have a large black and white picture of a stealth fighter F-117 hanging up in a cheap gov't frame? It was there many years ago in the office when I came back to visit. If you know what it is please check the signature on it. Col Howe Class of '84 JAMES C. HOWE, Colonel, USAF Chief, Maintenance Division

Cindy, thanks for the news letter and please keep them coming. May I suggest putting together a spreadsheet with the alumni information and sending it out periodically for updates. I’ve attached an example but feel free to make it your own. I think it’d be great to see how closely we sometimes work with other alum and never realize it. It could also be a resource for cadets looking to go into a particular career field who would like to talk to someone who’s been there. Thanks Again Mark Lt Col Mark Keener C-27J Requirements Manager

Cindy, I just opened your newsletter and love it!!! I'm enjoying my new job, but seeing all of the pictures makes me miss all of the staff and cadets at Det 630! I'm so proud of everything the cadets are doing and how the Det just continues to improve! KSU has got to be one of the best dets in the state if not the NE Region! A lot of this is because of you! You are wonderful! Keep up the outstanding work! Merry Christmas Skip LOWELL E. BAILEY JR., Lt Col, USAF 1 ACCS Pilot, Offutt AFB, Nebraska

Thank You!
