    NATIONAL U19 NETBALL FINALS

Congratulations to Year 9 pupil Natasha Soodeen who played for the South West Under 19 Netball team at Ilford Arena, Essex last weekend. Natasha, who plays Goal Attack, scored 8 goals against the Yorkshire team which secured their victory of 14-13. Well done. JOHN LEWIS DESIGN COMPETITION Congratulations to Year 9 pupil Harriet Selway who has been selected as a finalist for the 150 Years of John Lewis competition. Finalists were selected by Stuart Hillard from the TV programme the Great British Sewing Bee who will be judging the finished cushions to select an overall winner. Finalists from schools all over Bristol will spend two days in the store during the summer holidays making their cushion. My design for John Lewis shows the difference from where they started 150 years ago, to where they are now. I am looking forward to making my cushion in store and seeing it on display. Good Luck Harriet! PAST PUPIL SUCCESS Congratulations to past pupil German Marquesini (2001-2006) who has graduated at the University of Westminster with a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Business Management - Finance and Financial Services. WISE WORDS

The human spirit is so great a thing that no man can express it; could we rightly comprehend the mind of man mothering would be impossible to us upon the

    earth. Paracelsus

    SPaG Matters

Are there any pens in the stationery cupboard? Are there any pens in the stationary cupboard? X

    Stationary means not moving.

Stationery is writing or office supplies (e.g., paper, pens).

POEM OF THE WEEK I love all films that start with rain:

rain, braiding a windowpane or darkening a hung-out dress

    or streaming down her upturned face;

one long thundering downpour right through the empty script and score

before the act, before the blame, before the lens pulls through the frame

to where the woman sits alone

beside a silent telephone or the dress lies ruined on the grass

or the girl walks off the overpass,

and all things flow out from that source along their fatal watercourse.

However bad or overlong such a film can do no wrong,

so when his native twang shows through

or when the boom dips into view or when her speech starts to betray

    its adaptation from the play,

I think to when we opened cold on a rain-dark gutter, running gold with the neon of a drugstore sign, and Id read into its blazing line:

forget the ink, the milk, the blood all was washed clean with the flood we rose up from the falling waters

the fallen rains own sons and daughters and none of this, none of this matters.

ESAFETY TIP Be aware of how long your child spends online. It is recommended that children do not have more than 2 hours a day screen time. A study by Bristol University found a link between 2 plus hours screen time and increased emotional and behavioural problems.
