Greetings from the Superintendents office. As we move very quickly towards October, I am reminded of how quickly the school year passes and, in reality, how little time we have to make life-long impacts on the students. The district has worked tirelessly over the course of the last couple years to: align curriculum, plot long-term strategy, establish a mission and vision, set short and long term goals and establish consistency in programming across the K-12 continuum. We feel like we are making great progress in all of these areas and it is important to note that many factors inform how we do our work here in the district. Namely, the student experience is the number one priority for the entire community. We are very cautious and attentive to the students achieving balance on all fronts, while also being keen to the competitiveness of the world for which our students need to be prepared. Our goal, as a publically funded school in the state of Montana, is to provide the best educational opportunity to the students. Just as any tax supported entity in a community, it is our duty and responsibility to ensure students are provided the very best opportunity. A tax payer in the 21 st century would not accept anything but the best effort from any of our tax supported entities, be it local, county, state and federal. It is all of our responsibility to ensure that students leave our care wholly prepared for the next stage of their lives, in a short time, we have a lot to do. We happily accept that and will continue to support and challenge the students to be their best and to work hard. Have a great weekend, thanks for letting us work with your children. Board Meeting: October 24, 2017, at 3:30 pm., Elementary Conference Room.

Greetings from the Superintendent’s office.

A tax payer in the 21st century would not accept anything but the best effort from any of our tax supported entities, be it local, county, state and federal. It is all of our responsibility to ensure that students leave our care wholly prepared for the next stage of their lives, in a short time, we have a lot to do. We happily accept that and will continue to support and challenge the students to be their best and to work hard. Have a great weekend, thanks for letting us work with your children.

How to Raise an Independent Child

The main tenets of Parenting the Love and Logic Way ring true in this article I found on iMOM this week. How to Raise Kids with Self-Reliance by,Nancy Jergins- iMOM.com. What a great way to start the school year discussing ways to teach self-reliance and

problem solving. Teaching your child to problem solve is truly a beautiful gift your child will carry with them forever. For more tips on how to guide and support your child to problem solve, call Lori Swenson, Parent Liaison, Big Sky School District at 406-

School News!

K-4 Parents

It is October, and that means that basketball season is almost upon us. We are looking forward to another great season of K-4 Future Miner intramural action!

Some of you are old hands at this, but here are the details as a refresher for everyone!

1. The kids are split into K-2 and 3-4 grade bands. 2. Sign-up is $30 per player. This covers facilities and coaching, as well as a Future Miners basketball T-shirt at the end of

the season. 3. The program is four weeks long. Season starts on October 24th (first practice) and ends on November 18th (last game).

I know it is tight with Thanksgiving break, but this is the only way we can scrape four weeks in. 4. Practice is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. These practices focus around developing fundamentals. (Passing, ball

handling, shooting, and most importantly DEFENSE) 5. K-2 practice runs from 5:45 to 6:25 and 3-4 practice runs from 6:30-7:30. This working around our middle school bas-

ketball and LPHS volleyball teams. 6. Games are on Saturday mornings. We split the kids up evenly and run a full four-quarter running clock game. K-2

games begin at 9:00 am and the 3-4 games begin at 10:00.

This is truly a great experience for all involved, and we have already seen a huge difference in the skill level of our players who have gone through this program with. NO BASKETBALL EXPERIENCE NECESSSARY. Come one come all. Click here to register.

If any parent is interested in helping out, we need all hands on deck as we have had impressive numbers of kids the last three years. The registration form will ask if you would like to volunteer. If you are not registering a student or if both parents would like to volunteer, please email, [email protected].

School and Sports pictures from Bell Photographers were given to students this week. If you ordered pictures but did not receive them, please contact LaDawn [email protected] or Linda [email protected] as soon as possible. Retakes, pictures for those who missed the first day, and Ski Pass pictures will be taken November 9th.
