Cherry - M. Perry American Legion Post #108 of Eagle Lake to represent Rice High School at Boys State this year. Luke is the son of Victor and Debora Shimek of Nada and Hunter is the son of Madi- son and Charlotte Smith of Garwood. Boys State is an activity of high educational value, born out of a need for youth training in practical citizen- ship. It is a leadership action program in which qualified male high school juniors develop a working knowledge of the structure of government from city to state levels. This is accom- plished through a unique summertime program complete with its governing bodies and elected public officials. Rather than classroom lectures and textbook learning, emphasis is on par- ticipation and personal experience in a model state. The Eagle Lake Area royalty for 2005 are Mini Mr., Drayton Canaris, son of Peter and Kari Canaris; Little Mr., Hunter Adkins, son of Rod and Amy Adkins; Mini Miss, Ski La'Donna Penney, daughter of Sonny Anderson; Little Miss, Brittany Sosa, daughter of John and Belinda Sosa; Princess, Cathryn Myres, daughter of Laura and Dr. John Myres; Duchess, Nihla Ray Perry, daughter of Terry Perry Gansky and Bart Henry; Ambas- sador, Brandy Brewer, daughter of Tracy and Victor Brewer; Junior Miss, Mercedes Jones, daughter of Bonnie Jones; Miss, Courtney Sklar, daughter of Darryl and Pam Hinze. Most Photogenic was Courtney Sklar. Honorable Mention went to Maisyn Stancik. Miss Congeniality Newsbriefs was Priscilla Lozano and Best Talent was awarded to Cathryn Myres. Our judges were Linda Lakich from Columbus, Anne Maria Wigginton of El Campo, Miss Woodlands Tiffany Knight, and Liz Knight of Wallis. The Master of Ceremonies was Tom Kelley. Jane Meldahl, chamber president, and all other chamber directors would like to thank all of the businesses for their dollars and support. The sponsors were J.H. Continued from Page 1 ELVFD, Ladies Auxiliary to hold dinner May 15 The Eagle Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary will hold a chicken fried steak dinner, Sunday, May 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $6.50 each and include dessert. Plates will be served drive-thru only at the Eagle Lake Fire Station. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to assist volunteer firemen with the purchase of necessary firefighting equipment to provide protection to the citizens of the Eagle Lake area and to themselves. Tickets can be purchased from the Ladies Auxiliary or FD. Blinn College summer school registration to resume May 15 Registration for Summer I classes at Blinn College via the Internet and by telephone will resume May 15. It will continue until May 19 and then resume May 22-26. On-campus registration will be held May 25-27 on each of the campuses in Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg and Sealy. Summer I classes begin May 31. Laws and Regulation CEU Program is May 19 The Colorado County Extension Office will be hosting a 2-hour Laws and Regulation CEU program on Thursday May 19, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Colorado County Ag Building Conference Room. Guest speaker for that evening will be Texas Department of Agriculture inspector Melissa Barton. She will talk about Laws and Regulation in regards to a private applicator certificate or license. Mudbugs and Music is May 21 Mudbugs and Music will be held May 21 in Downtown Eagle Lake. Cajun style crawfish with all the fixin's will be served from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Music starts at 5:30. Commerce Street between First National Bank and City Hall and Nieto Street behind the Post Office will be closed for the party. Dancin' in the street is encouraged. Hot dogs and soft drinks will be available for the kids. The third annual Mudbugs and Music event is a way to celebrate with your friends and help fund projects for the downtown area. The Friends of Main Street-Eagle Lake are hosting the event. $12.00 Tickets should be purchased in advance from any Main Street volunteer. RICE MEDICAL CENTER 0% Rice Medical Center and Rice Medical Associates will be celebrating National Hospital Week "A Calling To Care" May 8-14,2005 Rice Medical Center is one of the most fortunate * medical facilities in the Gulf Coast Region. We are fortunate in that we have some of the greatest em- ployees of any hospital in our region. The employees of Rice Medical Center have de- veloped an organization within the hospital known in the community as Rice Medical Center Employee Volunteers. For the many citizens who participate in the Harvest Ball, Golf Tournament, Brown Bag Hamburger Lunch and Taco Sales that the RMC Employee Volunteers do every year, I want to thank you for participating. The RMC Employee Volun- teers, over the last several years, have used the many dollars raised from these functions they put on to buy furniture for the patient rooms, art work for the hospital, the nurse call system on a participa- tion basis, new signs for the hospital and multiple other items. RMC Employee Volunteers also give back to their community by giving scholarships to chosen Rice High School Seniors who have an in- terest in the medical field. The most important thing I can say to you as a com- munity is: Be proud of your hospital. Be especially proud of the people who take care of you when you are at Rice Medical Center. The knowledge, com- passion and caring you receive when you are a pa- tient in this facility cannot be surpassed anywhere. Rice Medical Center employees are some of the best! Rice Medical Center is one of the most fortunate * medical facilities in the Gulf Coast Region. We are fortunate in that we have some of the greatest em- ployees of any hospital in our region.

The employees of Rice Medical Center have de- veloped an organization within the hospital known in the community as Rice Medical Center Employee Volunteers. For the many citizens who participate in the Harvest Ball, Golf Tournament, Brown Bag Hamburger Lunch and Taco Sales that the RMC Employee Volunteers do every year, I want to thank you for participating.
