  • No one in the party except Aung San Suu Kyi is allowed to answer questions or talk about National League for Democracy policies during the transition period.

This is the directive issued on January 22 by the office of the NLD, a copy of which was obtained by Mizzima.

NLD party chairperson Suu Kyi appears to be intent on keeping her party, which won the November elections, on message during the transition period through to when it takes over from President Thein Seins ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party at the end of February.

According to the directive, only Suu Kyi is allowed to talk to the media about NLD policies and plans.

Myanmars current military-written 2008 Constitution contains a lengthy and cumbersome transition period of close to four months to allow a transfer of power.

Over two and a half months after the NLD won a landslide in the November 8 elections, the party has yet to take up power.
