News Writing (Teachers)

1. Location: Learning CentreWriting

2. Modules: Choose “News Writing”.


Teachers: View Reports

1. To view students’ progress, go to “Reports”. You can choose Training Modules andExercise Modules. Each of them can be shown by modules or class. Click “View Reports”after choosing the items.

2. If you search by modules in Exercise Modules, you can see the following result. Clickthe number in blue to see the details.

3. If you search by class in Exercise Modules, you can see the following result. Click thewords in blue to see the details.

Teachers: CommentsYou can comment on students’ writings submitted in the Exercise Modules.

1. Click “Comment Now”.

2. Choose the level (and class) you want. “To Comment” shows how many writings youneed to comment on in the particular Exercise Modules and “Commented” indicates howmany writings you have commented on. Click the class or the number in blue to see thedetails.Click the number under ‘To Comment’ to add comments on the writings.

3. Choose the theme of writing and click ‘Go’.

4. To comment on the writings, click “Comment Now”.


5. You may choose the default rubrics, and/or type your own words. You may also requestthe student to redo the writing, display the writing on Show Board or ePost if it is installed.Then, click “Submit”.

6. To read the comments you added before, click the number under ‘Commented’.


7. Choose the writing and click ‘Go’.

8. Click ‘Commented’ and you can see the writing and your comments.


News Writing (Students)

1. Location: Learning Centre News Writing

2. The main page shows 5 Training Modules and 4 Exercise Modules for writing newsarticles.Choose “Structure of News Article” on “Trainee Board”. You can click the banner“News Writing” during the whole activity to go to this main page.


3. Click “Go!” and you can see an introduction to the structure of news article. Click“Next” to go to the next page. You can click “Back” to go to the previous pages duringthe whole activity.

4. Click the left and right arrow to choose the suitable answer and then click the wordonce for checking. If the answer is incorrect, you cannot go to the next session.Change your wrong answer by clicking left or right arrow again and click the wordonce.

5. Click “Next” to do the Session 2.

You can click “I” to seethe demonstration ofhow to choose a word.


6. Drag and drop the pictures on the right to the suitable structures. If all of your answersare correct, you can go to the next page. If the answer is incorrect, you will see awarning “Oops! Try again”.

7. After completing all the activities, click “Get your certificate” and the certificate canbe printed. To have a better effect, Internet Explorer is suggested. Choose “Close thissession” to go back to the main page.


8. Choose “Article Categorizing” on “Trainee Board”. Read the introduction and click“What happened!?” to go to the next page. You can also click “Skip” directly. Click“Go!” to do the activity.

9. Read the instructions. Click “Start” to go to the game.In this activity, when you see grey arrows, click the newspaper on the top.


10. You can see a newspaper bit. Click the suitable article category on the left and thenclick “Chop Here”. Click “Close” and then you can see red arrows. Click one of themand repeat this step to continue. You can also see that the left categories you havechosen are highlighted.

11. As you can see grey arrows, you need to click the newspaper and follow Step 10.After that, red arrows appear and choose one of them.


12. After finishing all the activities in Articles Categorization, you can see that the leftcategories are all highlighted. Choose one of the doors and you can print the card orclose this session.

13. Choose “Headlines” on “Trainee Board”. Read the introduction and click “Go!” to goto the next page.

14. Read the instructions and then click “Close”. Read the passage and click “Next” to dothe activity. Click to select the important information of the passage. You have to clickthe correct answers to go to the next page. Click the wrong answer once to remove it.


15. Drag and drop the words to the blank to rearrange the words. If the sentence is correct,click “Next”. Repeat Steps 14 and 15.

16. Click “Next” in Session 3. Click the best headline and then click “Next”. You cannotgo to the next page unless the answer is correct.

17. Read the passage and click “Next” to do the activity. Repeat Step 16. After finishing,you can print the certificate or close this session.


18. Choose “Captions” on “Trainee Board”. Read the introduction and click “Go!” to dothe activity.

19. Click all the blue tags to read different parts of captions. Then, click “Next”.

20. Click the blue tags again and choose the best answers. Then, click “Next”. You cannotgo to the next page unless all the answers are correct.


21. Click the picture and write captions in your own words.

You can print the certificate or close this session.

Click “Save” to save the picture together with the caption.Click “Write later” to print the certificate.Click “Write another caption” to write captions for another picture.


22. Choose “Facts & Opinions” on “Trainee Board”. Read the introduction and click“Go!” to do the activity.

23. Click the suitable option and then click “Next”. You cannot go to the next page unlessall the answers are correct.

24. Click “Go” to read two passages. Find out and click all differences and then click“Next”.

You can click “I” to see thedemonstration of how toclick the differences.


25. Click “Go”. Choose the suitable answer and click “Next” to finish other 3 questions.You can print a certificate or close this session.

News Writing Practice4 news writing themes are provided to students with guidance and instruction:- Weather Report- Sports News- Serious News- Entertainment & Features

You can “save” your work before submission. Teachers can choose your work to the ShowBoard and your Portfolio.

Weather ReportYou can write weather reports and weather related news articles. You may go back to themain page of Weather Report by clicking “News Writing”.

1. Click “Weather Report”. Choose the kind of weather report you wish to write and click“Next”.


2. Click “Click here to start writing” to write the report. You may also add an image and acaption to the weather report. After completing the weather report, you can save or submityour work.

Sports NewsYou can write news articles on various sports events.

1. Click “Sports News”. Choose the kind of sports activity you wish to write and click“Next”.

2. Click “Write here” to write the article. Click “Notes” to read the guideline.


You may also add an image and a caption to the sports news. After completing it, you cansave or submit your work.

Serious NewsYou can write different kinds of serious news articles.1. Click “Serious News”. Choose the kind of serious news to write and click “Next”.



You may also add an image and a caption to the serious news. After completing the newsarticle, you can save or submit your work.

Entertainment & FeaturesYou can write news articles on entertainment and features.1. Click “Entertainment & Features”. Choose a topic to write and click “Next”.



You may also add an image and a caption to the news article of Entertainment & Features.After completing it, you can save or submit your work.

Show Board and My Portfolio

1. In each Exercise Module, there are “Show Board” and “My Portfolio”.


2. Click “Show Board”. You can read the writings in the Exercise Module you choose andgive ‘Enjoy’ to the writing you like.

3. Click “My Portfolio”. You can check your works in the Exercise Module you choose.You can also check teachers’ comments and if your work is displayed on Show Board.
