    3-year old drowned in septic tank

    BESUT -- The body of a three-year-old child, believed to have fallen into a

    septic tank and drowned, was found floating in a septic tank,near a Health

    Clinic situated near the victim's house, yesterday.

    Besut Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Zakaria said at about 5.50pm, neighbours hadseen the victim, Nur Ammar Adlyn Mohd Husni, playing with a bicycle all alone.

    "The child is believed to have fallen into the septic tank which was not closedproperly. The victim was found by neighbours but by then had already passed away,"

    he told Bernama here today.

    Meanwhile, the victim's father Mohd Husni Mat Hussin, 33, an employee of MajlisDaerah Besut, said he was informed of the incident by his neighbour. Kamaruddinsaid the father rushed to the scene and saw his daughter floating in the 3m deepseptic tank and quickly sent Nur Ammar to a clinic nearby. -- Bernama

    KUALA LUMPUR: Brake failure might have caused a tourist bus ferrying 24

    Indian nationals from Genting Highlands to Kuala Lumpur, to crash at the

    4.5km Genting Highlands-Genting Sempah stretch yesterday.

    As a result, the bus driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle whichstruck a divider and overturned, leaving two passengers dead and several othersseriously injured.

    "The police have not ruled out this probability as joint investigations with Puspakom(Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre) are underway to determine the cause ofthe crash," Bentong police chief Supt Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri toldBernama when contacted today.

    He said two bus drivers, who sustained head and body injuries, had been warded atthe Kuala Lumpur Hospuital (HKL), adding they were under remand to facilitateinvestigations.

    Meanwhile, Selayang Hospital deputy director Dr Mohd Suhaimi Abd Majid said fourof the accident victims were warded in critical condition, five in stable condition and

    nine others were undergoing treatment.

    An HKL spokesman said two Indian nationals who underwent treatment had beendischarged and arrangements were being made to send them back to India.

    They were identifed as Sharma Kamlesh, 23, and Rajeev, 27.

    The spokesman said 11 others were still warded at the hospital, describing theircondition as stable.

    In a related development, the remains of the deceased, Anita Aggarwal, 59, and

    Rajindra Kumar Agarwal, 67, will be sent to India today or tomorrow.

    India High Commission Counsellor Aseem Raja Mahajan said the bodies would besent home via special flight.

    "We are trying to expedite the formalities and have contacted their next-of-kin inUttar Pradesh, India," he told Bernama here today. BERNAMA

    IPOH: An Orang Asli boy was among four people killed in separate road

    accidents in the state yesterday.

    Perak acting traffic police chief DSP Mohammad Roy Hashim said the boy was killedafter his motorcycle was hit by a car at Km48 Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur.

    Jesez Kial a/l Pandak, 12, was killed at 6.45am after he fell onto the road and was hitby a car from behind near Tapah.

    "He died of serious head injuries at the scene. The body was sent to TapahDistrictHospital for autopsy," he said when contacted today.

    In another accident, a senior citizen was killed after the car he was driving skidded inJalan Museum, Taiping at 3.50pm. Hwang Huai Hoi,74, died from serious injuriesand was sent to Taiping District Hospital for autopsy.

    In Manjung, G. Munesh Paran, 24, was killed after his car collided with a trailer inJalan Batu 7 Sitiawan at 9.30pm. In another accident, Andrew Tan Swee Choong,32, was killed after his motorcycle crashed at a bend at Km337 Jalan Gerik-Jeli at

    SANDAKAN: Karamunting Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deputy chairman Jacky

    Chan Che Kwok, 50, was killed in an accident at Km 16 of Jalan Labuk here

    today.

    Chan died on the spot after the four-wheel-drive vehicle he was driving collided witha fuel tanker at the Seguntor junction at 12.30pm.

    Sandakan OCPD ACP Rowell Marong said Chan was with a convoy of vehiclesaccompanying Batu Sapi member of parliament (MP) Datin Linda Tsen Thau Linwho was returning here after a visit to Pulau Bambangan.

    He said the vehicle, which was travelling behind three other cars in the convoy, wascoming out of the junction before hitting the tanker which was travelling towardsSandakan.

    He said the MP's photographer Chang Kim Fah who was also in the ill-fated vehicle,suffered serious injuries and had been admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital. Heis reported to be stable.

    Two other vehicles were involved in the accident, injuring their drivers.

    Police have recorded the statement from the driver of the fuel tanker. -- BERNAMA

    AN accident involving a tank trailer at KM19 Jalan Johor Baru-Air Hitam broughttraffic to a standstill for several hours.

    The vehicle was carrying caustic soda which is used as a chemical base in themanufacture of pulp and paper, textiles, soaps and detergents, as well as a draincleaner.

    It is understood that the tanker was delivering the chemical, in liquid form, fromPasir Gudang to Taman Teknologi in Johor Baru.

    Johor Baru (north) police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Hassan saidthe 56-year-old driver, Hamid Said, was believed to have lost control of thevehicle after making a U-turn.

    The tanker had toppled over and landed on its side.

    Hamid suffered minor injuries and was admitted to Sultanah Aminah Hospital forobservation.

    He is reported to be in stable condition.Further investigations are underway.New Bulk Terminal Sdn Bhd accounts and administration manager Shahrir Abu

    Bakar said there was no spillage at the accident site.

    Cyclist on journey to Gombak dies in hit-and-run accident

    KUALA LUMPUR: A cyclist died after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).

    Rafizi Hamdan (pic), 37, died on the spot after he was hit by aProton Saga near Taman Melawati at around 7.50am yesterday.

    According to Rafizis friend and fellow cyclist Sazali Sulaiman,45, Rafizi was cycling to Batu 12, Gombak, when he was hit by

    a speeding Proton Saga.

    He was supposed to meet our cycling group in Gombak, but sadly he succumbed tosevere head injuries at the scene, Sazali said.

    He added that they found a licence plate near Rafizis body, which is believed to befrom the car that hit him.

    It is a tragic loss as Rafizi, afather of two, was a friendly and cheerful man wholoved cycling, Sazali said.

    Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin confirmed the indident,adding that initial investigations showed that the cyclist was hit from the back.

    We have classified the case as reckless driving and are investigating it underSection 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he said, urging anyone withinformation on the accident to contact the nearest police station.

    In another case, a motorcyclist died after he was hit by a trailer at Km2.2 of theBesraya Expressway while heading to Cheras.

    Selangor police traffic chief Supt Zulkifli Jonit said the victim, identified as R.Tennarasu, 22, died on the spot from multiple injuries.

    Based on initial investigations, Tennarasu lost control of his machine and hit thetrailer after he was scraped by a car, he said yesterday.

    SEREMBAN: Twelve people were killed when a north-bound express bus crashedthrough the guardrail and ploughed into five vehicles heading in the oppositiondirection at KM223.2 of the North South Expressway near Simpang Ampat here.

    Forty-five others were also injured in the 7.45pm accident, which occured near theNegri Sembilan-Malacca border here yesterday.

    Witnesses said the express bus crashed into the rear of a car before the driver lostcontrol of his vehicle and rammed through the guardrail and onto the path of anoncoming bus, two cars and a motorcycle.

    The impact caused the express bus to flip onto its side. The bus driver andmotorcyclist were among the casualties. The oncoming bus belonged to the WelfareDepartment.

    Apparently, out of the 45 injured, four have been rushed to the Kuala LumpurHospital for treatment, 22 were sent to a hospital in Seremban and 12 to anotherhospital in Malacca.

    The express bus had left Malacca about 45 minutes before the accident and was onits way to Kuala Lumpur.

    The accident caused a traffic jam stretching for more than 25km along the

    expressway.

    Of the 12 who died, eight were believed to be passengers from the express bus.

    One of them was decapitated.

    Two others were from a MyVi, which was crushed by the bus, and another from a

    Honda Accord.

    PLUS officials had to divert motorists at the Pedas/Linggi toll plaza as the southbound lanes were impassable to traffic.

    A Plus traffic control centre spokesman said the accident occurred at about 6kmfrom the Simpang Ampat toll near Alor Gajah, Malacca.

    The middle and left lanes for the south-bound traffic were blocked by the vehiclesinvolved in the accident while the right lane for the north-bound traffic was closed tofacilitate emergency works at the scene, he added.

    Sources said that the departments bus was carrying delegates for a gathering offormer servicemen, which was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib TunRazak at Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil earlier in the day.

    None of them in this bus was injured, said Malaysia Ex-Servicemens AssociationDatuk Muhammad Abdul Ghani.

    SUNGAI SIPUT: A three-year-old girl was burnt to death in a fire which

    destroyed a house in Taman Sentosa, here last night.

    Fire and rescue personnel found Keswini a/p Kunasekar's charred body in one of therooms.

    "The child was at home with her grandfather and aunt when the fire broke out at10.10pm.

    The child's parents were at the town during the incident," Sungai Siput OCPD SuptAzman Salim said.

    The rest of the occupants escaped unhurt.

    Seven fire and rescue personnel were despatched to the scene and managed to putout the fire in 13 minutes. -- BERNAMA

    KOTA BARU: A teacher and his four-year-old daughter burnt to death and a couple

    was seriously injured when their vehicles collided before one of them caught fire in

    Kampung Padang Kala at Jalan Pasir Putih here on Tuesday night.

    Police identified the teacher as Che Arminudin Abdullah, 42, and his daughterMarissa Alma, and the couple as Azairurien Ahmad, 33, and his wife Siti Nor AzreenMohd Yani, 24.

    In the 11.15pm incident, Che Arminudin and his daughter were in their Toyota Rushwhile returning home in Kampung Kulim near here after sending a relative to SultanIsmail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa.

    Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said their vehicle was heading

    towards Pasir Putih when it skidded and crashed into an electricity pole in the middleof the road before swerving into the opposite lane.

    "Moments later, it collided with an oncoming vehicle before the Toyota Rush landedon the road shoulder and burst into flames," he said yesterday.

    He said Che Arminudin, who taught at SM Teknik Pengkalan Chepa and hisdaughter were trapped inside their vehicle while it was on fire.
