Further, the institutions should step forward and take the responsibility for bringing up a generation based on values which is very crucial in the present scenario. Shri.Padmanabha Varma, the son of His Highness Shri. Uthradam Tirunal Marthanda Varma Maharaja, as the Chief Guest for the function. Mr. Biju Varghese ( Chairman of Mangalam Educational Institutions) presided over the meeting. Mr. Sabu Varghese (Chief Editor of Mangalam Publications) presented the momento to the Chief Guest. Adv. Dr. Abraham Chettisserry (Legal Advisor of the Mangalam Group) gave a detailed introduction a propos Mangalam group of institutions. Prof. John .T. “Mahasangram 2012” All India Management Meet

The All India Management Meet “Mahasangram 2012” was organised by the Department of Management Studies on 6 and 7th of January this year. The two day fest helped in bringing together the young minds of various universities and institutions, providing them with a platform to express their talents in the best possible ways. More than 200 students from various institutions participated in the events and it was a real platform for the students to showcase their talents and abilities. The participants compete each other in six events - Best Manager, Best Management Team, HR game, Brand Panorama, Business Quiz and Corporate show. Corporate Show, a spectacular fashion show with a corporate vogue, was the highlight of the first day evening, and participants from various colleges exhibit their skills to won the cash prize. Cultural show was organised on 6th evening and our students present a spectrum of events, a real feast to the audience. Mrs Toshma Biju Varghese , Managing Editor of Kanyaka distributed the awards to the winners of the fest during the Valedictory Ceremony. Prof. John .T. Varughese, Dean, Department of Management Studies, Rtd. Brig. Joseph Mathew (Dean, Students) and the student co-ordinators of the fest were present during the occasion.

FAREWELL CEREMONY OF 2009-2011 MBA BATCH

The Farewell Ceremony of our 2009-2011 MBA batch was inaugurated by Dr. Baju George, Managing Director of Smart City at Windsor Castle, Kottayam. While addressing the audience he told the students that they could succeed only by facing challenges. With the looming of Smart City, Kochi has become a part of global market, and it is a bliss for the professionals due to the increase in employment opportunities. He exhorted the students to learn to dream and to make the dream come true.

Mr. Biju Varghese, the Chairman of Mangalam Group of Educational institutions, presided over the meeting and Mr. Sajan Varghese, the Managing Director of Mangalam Publications, presented the award to the best outgoing student of the batch. The outgoing students took oath with lighted candles led by Rtd. Brig. Joseph Mathew (Dean, Students). Adv. Dr Abraham Chettisserry (Legal Advisor), Prof John T Varughese (Dean, Department of Management studies) and Dr Sibu .C. Chithran, (Head of the Department) addressed the audience.

Mangalam Media Club--An initiative by the S3 MBA Students The third semester MBA students took initiative to start the media club with a view to nurture the talents and hone the skills of the MBA students . The objective of the club is to bring out the hidden talents of the students by organising various training programs and seminars, and thereby sharpening their competencies and skills to face the challenges of the corporate. The punch line “Inception to perfection” of the club itself proclaims the mission

behind the initiative. The Mangalam Media Club was inaugurated by Dr. T K Raman, a leading Corporate Trainer and Chairman of TILT (The Institute of Leadership Training), Kochi. Mr. Sooraj P. S., President of the Media club welcomed the gathering, Prof John T Varughese, Dean of the department presided over the meeting and Ms. Karthika G. delivered the Vote of Thanks. The Media Club also arranged a guest talk related to experiential learning by Pushpa Kurup, the Managing Director of Vitalect Inc., which is based in Palo Alto, California. A one day training programme by the soft skill trainer, Mr. Abraham Stephen was also organised by the Media Club.

Apart from providing the academic expertise, the Department of Management Studies is keen in organizing Industrial visits for the students to gain Industrial exposure and to get awareness of the organizational environment. Our MBA students had visited HNL, Velloor, Apollo tyres, Perambra, Eastern Condiments, Adimaly, PPK Steels, Calicut, Cholayil Pvt. Ltd. Chennai, and Neyveli Lignite Corporation, Neyveli.

During the visits to various organizations, the students were benefitted a lot by the interaction sessions with the experts in the respective fields. Our Students visited KRL, Kochi and won first place in the Debate Competition as part of the Encon Club activities.

MBA Placement Activities

The Placement activities of the 6th Batch of our department started with a week long placement training by Mr. Vijay Menon, a Corporate trainer of international repute. Students were trained on various facets of career building. A live workshop was conducted to train the students on Group Discussion, Interview, Resume writing, Personality development, Attitude formation etc. A full fledged placement database is created to cater to the needs of the corporate. Some of the students from our present senior batch already got job offers. They include WIPRO Technologies (1), HDFC Bank (4), Sutherland (1), Business India(2), Metrolla Steels(4), CIPLA(3) and ICICI Prudential(2). The remaining students are going through the process of recruitment and selection under the guidance of Mr. Siby James, the Placement Officer of the department. Our students are being short listed for the selection process by the companies like JRG Securities, Mangalam Publications, AXIS Bank, India Infoline etc .

The 2011-2013 MBA Batch was inaugurated by Mr. C. Rajagopal IPS, District Police Chief, Kottayam on 4th July 2011. Mr. K M Roy, Director, Mangalam Institute of Journalism and Communication delivered the keynote speech. Fr. Abraham Skaria took class for the parents of newly admitted students.

The two week induction programme for the MBA students was led by a Cochin based HR training firm - Corporetta headed by Mr. Vipin Roldand , the faculty members of the Department and experts from various fields.

A Video Conferencing with V.S. Pradeep, MD, Cholayil Group, Chennai was organized on 3rd November 2011.

Going beyond the syllabus - An altruistic mission As part of the social activity, our S1 MBA students and the members of faculty spent a day with the destitute children at Kerala Balagram (Christavashram), Kottayam and sponsored their one day food with the amount collected towards charity fund. It was a step to hoe every student with a feel of concern for the society.

Placement Cell News from Engineering

The Training & Placement Cell plays a very important and key role in counseling and guiding the students of the college for their successful career placement which is a crucial interface between the stages of completion of academic program of the students and their entry into suitable employment. This Cell also coordinates various activities related to the career of the students along with the industrial training.In addition to campus placement, the Placement Cell organized programs for Personality development, mock interviews, group discussions, case studies, ice breaking sessions, training on enhancing aptitude, GD based classes for first year B.Tech students etc. It is also planning to organize programs like "Interpersonal and Communication skills", Career planning and Career Mapping, Program on GD for first year classes. Many reputed national and multinational companies visit MLMCE for campus recruitment annually. Over 95% of the students secure job offers before they complete their program of studies. Under the Guidance of Brig (Retd) Joseph Mathew(Dean), Prof. Sebastian Joseph (Executive Asst. To Chairman & Placement Officer), Mr. Varun P.Nair (HR & Placement Co-ordinator) and Mrs.Sheeba Joseph (Communicative Trainer) the Student Placement Coordinators and a team of placement representatives from various courses of study, more than 80% students of the 2012 Batch have got placement in reputed companies. For the recruitment of 2011 & 2012 batch students, 40 firms have either visited our college or the students have been called to other colleges so far.

ROBOTRYST 2012 Mangalam College of Engineering has hosted the preliminary rounds of India’s largest Robotics Championship by Robosapiens Ltd. in association with E-cell IIT, Kharagpur. The mechanical department pompously hosted the event on October 28 and 29, 2011. The prelims constituted three rounds : an interactive robotic workshop organized by Robosapien India led by Mr. Tariq Azeez, a prelims round of Robotryst, 2012 wherein the winners got a wild card entry in the finals of Robotryt 2012 at IIT, Delhi. About 25 teams from all over the state participated and four of our students were selected for the finals held at IIT Delhi, offering prizes worth 1 lakh rupees, in March along with 153 other teams from all over the nation.

AU REVOIR 2011- FAREWELL CEREMONY OF B TECH STUDENTS

The Farewell ceremony of the 2007-2011 B Tech Students “Au Revoir 2011” was conducted on 17th June 2011 at Mammen Mappillai Hall, Kottayam. The function was inaugurated by the Honourable State Minister, Mr. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. Dr Rajan Varghese, the Pro Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, delivered the key note speech. Dr. T C Peter, the Principal of Mangalam College of Engineering, welcomed the gathering. In remembrance of the Founder Chairman, Prof. John T. Varughese gave a brief account on Late M. C. Varghese. Mr. Biju Varghese, the Chairman of Mangalam Educational Institutions, presided over the meeting.

The meritorious Students from all the Engineering branches who have shown excellence consistently in their academic performance were given awards by Dr Rajan Varghese. A dedication service for the passing out students was administered by Rev. Dr. M.P George. The budding engineers of the passing out batch took oath led by the Dean, Brig Joseph Mathew. Dr. R.V Jose, felicitated on the occasion and, Brig. Joseph Mathew, the Dean delivered the Vote of Thanks. The second edition of the College Magazine “Chalkpiece” was released by Mr Biju Varghese during the function. The Chief editor of the magazine, Rtd. Brig. Joseph Mathew (Dean) along with the staff editors (Mrs. Reena Alias, Ms. Sruthy Amrutha Krishna) and the Student Editorial members (Ms. Samantha Sunny, Mr.Jithin Jyothi Kurien, Ms Ashalakshmi K G, Mr. Syamjith M S, Mr. Mabin Mathew and Mr. Jerry M John) handed over the first copy of the Magazine to the Chairman.

ZEITGEIST 2012 – COLLEGE STUDENTS UNION ACTIVITIES

The College Student Union and various clubs were inaugurated by the famous Cine Artist Shri. Babu Antony. The oath taking ceremony was administerd by Brig. (Retd.) Joseph Mathew, Dean of Mangalam College of Engineering .The office bearers were bestowed with the responsibility of leading the activities of the college diligently and sincerely and vowed to fulfill their duties to the best of their abilities. As part of the environment club, Brig. (Retd.) Joseph Mathew planted a tree during the function. Various cultural programs were also performed by the students. Dr. N K Varghese (Principal), and Dr. Abraham Chettisserry (Legal Advisor) addressed the audience.

Under the initiative of the staff club of the college, the Onam and Christmas celebrations were organised and competitions were conducted for the staff members. In the department wise Christmas Crib competition, the Mechanical and Basic Science departments won the first and second prizes respectively.

The Mangalam Management organized Christmas Celebrations and Carol Service for the staff in the Campus. Rt. Rev. Dr. Sam Mathew (Rtd. Bishop, CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese) gave away the Christmas message. Mr. Biju Varghese, Dr Abraham Chettisserry and Fr. Dr. M. P. George addressed the audience. Blood Donation Camp at Mangalam – A Noble initiative With an intention to serve the humanity, as part of the club activities, Mangalam College of Engineering organized a blood donation camp on 3rd March 2012. There was a generous participation from the students’ side and this noble cause received overwhelming response from all students and faculty members of the institution.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN SPORTS AND CULTURAL COMPETITIONS The Basket ball team of Mangalam College of Engineering won 3rd place in the Mahatma Gandhi University South Zone Basket Ball Tournament , All Kerala Inter Engineering College Basket Ball Tournament”Magnum-12” conducted in Viswajyothi College of Engineering & Technology and in the All Kerala Inter Engineering College Basket Ball Tournament conducted by Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology. Our Football Team won the 3rd position in the SME Football Tournament held at Puthupally. In the All Kerala Inter Engineering College Volleyball Tournament conducted in Carmel Engineering College, Pathanamthitta, our Volley ball Team won the 3rd place. ECE Department won the championship in the Inter Departmental Volleyball Tournament held in the Campus. Our students actively participated in various events in the Mahatma Gandhi University Youth festival and won prizes in classical music, Ottamthullal and Western Vocal Solo. MC Varghese College of Arts and Science The Mangalam Group of Educational institutions entered into a new venture with the establishment of MC Varghese Arts and Science College. The institution offers B.Com, BBA and BCA courses. The college was inaugurated by Mr. Sunny Kalloor, the Municipal Chairman of Kottayam,. The college Union was inaugurated by Mr. Siddique, the renowned film director, and the Arts club by Ms. Mithra Kurian, the famous film actress.

The institution is keen in the overall development of the students. With that view a two day residential Orientation programme “Winning Edge” was conducted by Corporetta, Kochi. The College supported the State wide movement to protect the Mullaperiyar dam by organizing a rally from the college to the Mangalam Corporate Office. MANGALAM CBSE SCHOOL It has been decided to host more programmes in extra curricular activities with a view to promote and encourage the inborn talents of the students The highlight event in the month of November was the MC Varghese Memorial Quiz Competition where 26 teams from various schools participated and Chavara School, Pala and St. Mary’s High school, Athirampuzha won laurels. Christmas jingled all the way to our door steps and a merry event was organized with carols, cakes and most importantly a divine message by Fr. Alex Paikada. Our Annual Sports day flagged off on 6th January 2012. Ansal Saleem of grade IX and Manjusha B of Grade IX bagged the individual championships. The 6th Annual day Celebration was inaugurated by Shri. Monce Joseph, MLA on 8th February and the event began with a prayer by Rev. Dr. M P George, spiritual advisor of Mangalam campus. Adv Dr Abraham Chettissery, Legal advisor of Mangalam group welcomed the gathering and Mr. Biju Varghese, Chairman of Mangalam group of institutions presided over the meeting and addressed the gathering. The annual report was presented by Mrs. Annie George. the Principal. The Chief guest Mr. Ramesh Pisharadi, the famous TV/Cine Artist thrilled the audience with his humorous speech and applauded the young stars during prize distribution. After the Vote of Thanks by the head boy Sony Mathew, the curtain was risen up for a spectacular show of our young artists who rocked to lights and rhythms and even put up a magical recreation of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’. The M C Varghese Memorial Inter School Basket ball Tournament was conducted on 11, 12 and 13th of January. The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Sunny Kalloor,

the Kottayam Municipal Chairman, in the presence of Mr. Jose Kurian, the Former National Basket Ball Player, and Mr. Biju Varghese, the Chairman of Mangalam group. With 8 teams playing neck to neck, the Ever Rolling Trophy was victoriously bagged by St. Joseph’s School, Pullarikunnu and the runner up team was St. Ephrem’s HSS, Mannanam. Mr. Suresh Kurup, MLA of Kottayam presented the trophies to the winners.

MANGALAM ENGLISH MEDIUM RESIDENTIAL HSS Congratulations for securing 100% results in the S.S.L.C State Board Exam for the last 25 years The institution was in its full swing during the months of October and November. Various academic as well as extra curricular activities were organised by the school during the year. The School Youth festival was conducted in a colorful manner on 4 and 7th of October. The children participated in various competitions and about 60 of them were sent to sub District level competitions. Our students participated in the sub district level Science and Maths exhibitions held on 4 and 5th of November and one of our students Master Abhijith got selection in the state level competition held at Kozhikode. 14 of our students had also got selection in the District level sports competition held at Kanjirappally. In the sub district Kalolsavam held at Ayarkunnam, 60 of our students participated and won many prizes. In Group dance the lower primary girls got first prize with A grade ,the upper primary and high School girls won second prize with A grade. The annual day celebrations were held on 3rd February, 2012.The famous cine artist ‘Ginnus Pakkru’ inaugurated the cultural programme. Mr. Sabu Varghese (Chief Editor, Mangalam Publications), Mr Biju Varghese (Chairman, Mangalam Educational Institutions), Dr. Abraham Chettissery (Legal Advisor, Mangalam Group), Mr. James Plackithottiyil (Ettumanoor Grama Panchayat President) were present in the function.

Butterflies Eurokids Butterflies Eurokids works towards exploring the innate potential of each child, believing each child is unique. All programs incorporate an integrated curriculum that promotes learning primarily through music, art, drama, dance, field trips, outdoor play etc. Butterflies Eurokids conducted many academic and non academic activities like field trips, Health Is Wealth Day, Children’s day, Onam and Christmas Celebrations etc. Field trips were conducted for Playgroup, nursery and Euro juniors every month. The children visited different places like vegetable market, flower shop, fruit shop, toy shop, fire station, bus depot etc. Health Is

Wealth Day was conducted on 1st December 2011. Races were conducted for Playgroup, Nursery, and Euro junior students. Separate races were conducted for parents. All parents actively participated throughout the programme. On Children’s day, the kids visited an Anganvadi and distributed the gifts which they brought from home to the orphanage. Festivals like Onam and Christmas were celebrated on corresponding seasons. All Butterflies of Mangalam Eurokids participated in Athapookkalam, group song, and group dance. On Christmas, Santa Claus gave gifts to all students. Santa Claus helped the children to make this celebration a grand event

MANGALAM TEACHERS TRAINING INSTITUTE

The institution is always keen in developing the skills of teachers. Techietion Information Systems Private Limited presented ‘Classroom Solutions for the 21st Century’ by Hilalhi on 9th July 2011. The Onam celebration was organized in a colorful manner by the institution. Gandhi Jayanthi, Kerala Piravi and Independence day were also celebrated. The Arts day celebration was held with variety of entertainments by the students. The Christmas celebrations of this year was celebrated with the inmates of St. Joseph Peace Home.

MANGALAM COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

The College Union and Arts Club was inaugurated by Sri. C. Rajagopal, IPS, District Police Chief, Kottayam on 20th January 2012. During the function various cultural programmes were staged by our students. Arts festival of the college was conducted on 30 and 31st January 2012 and various cultural competitions were also organized. A Seminar on ‘Right to Privacy’ organized by Kerala State Human Rights Protection Council was held on 9th December 2011. The trophy for

the best participation was received by the Principal from Sri. C. Rajagopal, IPS, District Police Chief, Kottayam. The Christmas celebrations were conducted in the college on December 22nd 2011. The Christmas message was conveyed by Adv. George Ittankulangara (Secretary, Kerala Human Rights Council and Sri. Sabu Varghese, Chief Editor, Mangalam Publications was the chief guest of the function. Christmas carols were sung by the college choir along with various entertainment programmes. Commemorating the memory of our founder late M.C. Varghese, College of Education, observed founder’s day on 9th January 2012. Mr. Abdul Hakeem (Associate Editior, Mangalam daily delivered a message on the life and activities of the great personality and the program was blessed by Rev.( Dr) M.P. George, Spiritual Advisor, Mangalam Educational Institutions Sri. P.U. Thomas (MD, Navajeevam Trust, Kottayam) gave a talk on social service on 24th January 2012 which was really an eye opener for the students Wet Land Area visit organized by World Wild Life Fund and Eco tourism of Government of Kerala was attended by the B. Ed and M. Ed students as part of environment protection extension programme. The students also participated in the Seminar on ‘Wet Land Tourism’. Sri. P.U. Thomas (MD, Navajeevam Trust, Kottayam) gave a talk on social service on 24th January 2012.

The Alumni Association Meeting was convened on 30th January 2012. The B. Ed. Degree certificates and MC Varghese Memorial award to the top scorers were distributed by Sri. Sabu Varghese, Chief Editor of Mangalam Publications Under the guidance of the Dr. Peter Mathew, the Principal, Mr. Jose Augustine, a renowned educationist, got Ph.D from Vinayaka Mission University on ‘Learning Styles of Higher Secondary School students in relation to certain components of Multiple intelligence’.

SHRI M C VARGHESE : LIFE AND MISSION A photo exhibition is being organised to commemorate the memory of our Founder Chairman Late M C Varghese at the Mangalam Campus on 6 and 7th of January 2012. The exhibition portrayed the life and

mission of our founder Chairman and it highlights the spirit and philosophy behind all his ventures. It was a real presentation with photographs depicting all the major events in the life of our founder.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the Minister, Mr. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. Mr. Sabu Varghese ( Chief Editor, Mangalam Publications), Mr Biju Varghese (Chairman, Mangalam Educational Institutions), Dr. Abraham Chettisserry (Legal advisor, Mangalam Group), the Principals of various Educational institutions of Mangalam Group were present during the function.

The Institutions observed Founder’s Day on 9th January, paying homage to the Founder Chairman the driving force behind the group's unique style of functioning.
