Tammie Bowser has been sewing since she was 4 years old. she started out sewing clothing, and chose a career in the fashion in-dustry after graduating from “The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising” in 1985.

Her 17 year career (in Los Angeles) had become diffi cult and un-enjoyable. So she prayed for an idea that could lead her to a new career. Shortly after that, she woke up with the exciting idea for

Quilted Photography! Her idea was to use very ordinary cotton print fabrics to make extrodinary photographic photos and portraits.

In less than a week she excitedly made her fi rst Quilted Photograph...and the sight of it even excited her more! When the fi rst quilt was done, she hung it on a wall and walked away. When she turned around and looked, the quilt of her daughter was just like a photograph, com-plete with shadows, highlights and details! She ran out of my sewing studio to show the fi rst neighbor that she could fi nd....and it amazed her neighbors too..... they think that she is a genius!

She beleives that this gift is not just for her to keep for herself. It was

given to her so that she could share it with others. Look at her website www.mosaicquilt.com where you can buy the book that will teach you how to make these amazing quilts and come to her workshop (details on page 5), or you can commission her to cre-ate a work of art for you. Go to the Mosaic Quilt Gallery to view more of her quilts, or to the quilter’s catalog also on her website if you are a quilter and want to learn how to create your own amaz-ing Photographic Mosaic Quilt.

PRESIDENT’S MES SAGE

Dear Fellow Quilters,

We certainly all enjoyed the 24th Guild Birthday Celebration. What fun to honor those individuals who were responsible for establishing the Guild and also for their continued loyalty to its programs and ac-tivities. They truly are special people!

Have you fi nished making your pincushion gift? It sits so nicely on your sewing ma-chine table.

Time to concentrate our efforts on the 2006 Quilt Show. Everything is in place; however, the activities surrounding the event are going to depend upon your vol-unteer efforts and hours not to mention your continued commitment. Let’s think of it as one very large party!

Remember -- if you are working on a quilt and want to see it hanging in the Show, make sure that you contact Penny Morgan at [email protected] and get to her the acquisition form. We need your quilts so that the “Quilt Show” will be an outstanding event! We are lower on quilts this year than last. We are also in need of some additional wearable items as well. Show off your “stuff.” It is tons of fun to see it hanging!

Also remember that you need to have a picture sent to Tammie Bowser along with a check for $45 for the February work-shop. Make sure you check out the details with Mary Beth Kile so that you can make a mosaic quilt from one of your favorite pictures.

We have some interesting programs com-ing up in the next four or fi ve months. Various programs include the concentra-tion on Mariner’s Compass in April by Mar-tha Borders; a Landscape quilt in August by Helene Knott, Velda Newman with her art quilts in May and Cathy Van Bruggen in August with needle turn appliqué. Look over the items on the website and fi nd the ones that interest you the most. In March, we have invited all of our Master Quilters to come and tell us more about that process and what it takes to be a Mas-ter Quilter. For those of you who have not aspired for this award, it takes four fi rst place awards from entering your quilts in our Show, and then with number fi ve you become a Master Quilter.

Happy Quilting to all!

Ruth

“Romancing the Fabric”

Ladies and Gentleman,

Our 27th Annual Quilt Show is fast approaching. The quilts are in, workshops are fi lling up, and all other Committee’s are hard at work.

Now there are two very important things that each and every Member must do. One: Turn in your Opportunity tickets/stubs; and two: Sign-up for your two hours of work at the Show.

While “Math” is not my favorite subject, I have fi gured out that the Show will be opened to the public a total of 20 hours. (Excluding the Banquet and Breakfast) In those 20 hours, we need at least 40 people each hour in various positions (White glove, Security, Door greeters, and Sit-down positions). This means at least 800 hours of donated time divided by approxi-mately 200 members (who are not already doing committee chair work or for some reason are not able to work the Show). So, 200 into 800 equal 400 which mean’s that we really need everyone to work at least 4 hours. I know I’m preaching to the choir, you all pitch in, you always have. I guess I just wanted all of our new members to know what goes into a large three-day show such as ours.

We the Committee, would also like to remind you to register for the hotel ASAP. Sell those Opportunity tickets, Purchase your Banquet and Breakfast tickets soon and sign up for your volunteer hours.

I know this is all going to come together as it always does. Just let me take this minute to thank everyone who makes our Show the success that it always is!

Thank you, Judy Leonard 2006 Glendale Quilt Show Chair.

Parliamentarian Report:

The Nominating Committee will be meeting in February to recommend Board of Direc-tor positions for the Guild’s next fiscal year. Please contact one of the following Nomi-nating Committee members, Nancy Mraz, Nicole Osborn, Marva Packey, or Loretta Bradley, if you would be interested in a Board position or you would like to suggest someone for a Board or Committee position.

The list of elected Board Members, standing and Special Committees along with the duties of each is found in the By-Laws, which can be found in the back of your Mem-bership Roster. Each and every Member of the Board and each of the Committee Members are essential to the well-being of the Glendale Quilt Guild, and your contri-bution of time will be greatly appreciated by all the Members. To the new Members, volunteering for a position will help you quickly get acquainted with other Guild Mem-bers and the operation of our great organization. To the friendship groups – please consider taking part as a group to lighten the load and spread the enjoyment. One of your Members could volunteer to be the Committee Chair with the other Members helping with the duties of the Committee. This has worked quite well with the Member-ship Committee for the past few years. To the long time Members, you are greatly needed for your insight, history, and knowledge. You helped build the Guild and the Guild still needs your help.
