TRANSCRIPT
2014 has come to an end, once more we hope
your year has been a success as we look forward
into 2015.
We hope the New Year brings you God’s bless-
ings and that you be able to fill your personal as-
piration at home and in your career.
For us it has been a busy year as we undertook
the expansion of the campus to provide addi-
tional teaching facilities and administrative of-
fices.
We have made tremendous progress in this regard and as we turn into 2015 we will be us-
ing these facilities. This is in line with our desire to provide first class learning facilities and
enhance learning experiences for our participants.
The year has also seen the launch of Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of
Business Administration with Australia Institute of Business (AIB) which is increasingly being
popular and enables participants to achieve the BBA and MBA in a fast track manner.
Our partnership with Leeds Business School is in its sixth year, we also celebrate our part-
nership with Edinburgh Business School which we now beginning our second year. We con-
tinue to explore other partnerships which will enhance the quality of our programs and ex-
pand the knowledge base of our courses. We successfully held series of certificate courses
in partnership with University of Swaziland and will continue to do so.
We would like to congratulate all those participants who have grown into senior positions
to be leaders in other institutions because of their Mananga Experience locally and region-
ally. These include Central Bank of Swaziland , Swazi Bank MTN, SPTC, Government and
Non-Governmental Organisations as well as International Organisations. We are particu-
larly proud of our regional spread not only in terms of participants who come to Mananga
but also the extension of our leadership skills as a result of the Mananga Experience.
We are looking ahead into a successful year and we will communicate to you what is hap-
pening to us and we certainly hope you will let us know what is happening in your lives.
We would like to celebrate together the festive season and wish you a prosperous new
year.
DIRECTORS REMARKS
NEWS LETTER— “the Mananga Experience”
Mary Mhazo Senior Consultant in Community Development studies , studying for a PhD in Agriculture attended an international congress in the United Kingdom from 3 to 8 August 2014. The 10th European Congress of Entomology was held at the University of York in
Yorkshire. It was organised by the Royal Entomological Society.
The conference was attended by insect and
environment scientists from Europe and all over the
world. The theme of the congress was “Disseminating
information about insects”.
The areas covered under the theme were insects,
biodiversity and conservation, ecology and evolution,
applied entomology, plant insect interactions in the
tropics and rainforests, insecticides resistance and
medical and veterinary entomology. Plenary sessions
were held on insects and climate change, plant insect
interactions in the tropics and rainforests and honey
bees gut bacteria infestations. Mary Mhazo presented
part of her PhD research results on use of local plant
materials to control insects. The results will contribute to food security, environmental
conservation and sustainable development of communities.
One of the interesting presentations on Applied Entomology was “Are insects smarter than
human beings?” Consider their roles in food security as pollinators, honey and wax
production, insects as food, their role in recycling, their ability to survive under severe and
extreme conditions, their role in controlling other insect species and their ability to respond
to each other for mating and danger warnings.
For managers to become better managers there is a lot that they can lean from insects in
terms of leadership, team building and change management. Insect development involves
changing from egg through the larval stage to pupa stage until a desirable adult stage is
reached. Leaders and managers in change management can learn a lot from how insects
manage their transition in their development from eggs to adults. Insects have managed to
adapt to climate change to avoid extinction, the business climate also changes, and insects
can provide a learning curve on how businesses can adapt to avoid their extinction out of
markets as well. Insects diversity in forests can lead to better understanding of workforce
diversity by human resources managers.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM –
Virtual Leadership and Development Program
3
Mananga staff members participated in a Virtual Leadership Development Program (VLDP).
The goal of the VLDP is to support managers who work in various areas of public health
(education, service delivery, administration or operations, monitoring and evaluation) to de-
velop or strengthen their leadership skills.
Other teams who participated are Moi University Kenya, University of Witwatersrand,
South Africa, Institute of Development Management Botswana and University of Zam-
bia .Each member had an opportunity to become coordinator or team leader with the re-
sponsibility of facilitating team meetings, coaching the team, recording agreements reached
and reporting results to facilitators.
The program comprised of seven modules;
Managers Who Lead
Mission, Vision, Desired Measurable Result and Monitoring and Evaluation.
Current Situation , Strength Challenges and Communication
Organizational Communications and Coaching For Leaders
Leading Practice of Aligning and Mobilizing
Planning, Organising &Managing Change
Implementation
The course ran from March to December. Team members were part of leadership develop-
ment adventure programs where they learnt how to develop and strengthen their leader-
ship skills. They also interacted with other members from other teams through the “online-
café” Each week of each module of the VLDP included readings, exercises and a team meet-
ing. Each module started with individual reading and assignments.
The major benefits from the program included improved Mananga team performance, im-
proved leadership skills as well as the opportunity to network with other teams who partici-
pated in the VLDP. “This was really an opportunity to enable staff to find and practice their
leadership skills’’ It’s an on-going process on our staff development programs, commended
Dr Taruvinga. One staff member concluded the VLDP program” as an eye opener exercise
which helped me to be a master of my work while at the same time being empowered.”
The facilitators feedback indicated that our team was the most active on site and produced
quality work. Mananga staff members are looking forward to the certification ceremony and
continuation of the VLDP programmes.

Masters in Leadership & Change Management Graduation
Class of 2013
5
A total of forty students graduated this year
with a Master in Leadership & Change Man-
agement Degree. The students came from
various economic sectors which included the
Government, Private, Public and Non- Gov-
ernmental bodies.
The program equipped students with the
much needed and sought after leadership
skills. Given the challenge of many organisa-
tions having a lot of managers but lacking
leaders, the graduation therefore of these
students equipped graduates with leadership
skills that would not have come out at such
an opportunity as this.
The major highlight of the graduation was the officiating of this occasion by the Prime Minister represented
by the minister of Energy and Natural Resources Mrs Jabulile Mashwama and the Leeds Beckett Vice Chan-
cellor represented by Dr Rev. B Simon Robbinson.
Two students were awarded prizes best overall students student in the MSc Leadership and Change Program
- Ntombizodwa Mashishi and best Dissertation – Thulani Fred Mchunu.
The Director of Mananga Centre Dr Rangarirai Taruvinga highly commended the graduates for having taken
the commitment and zeal to undertake and finish the program. These being the fifth class of graduates, re-
flect the significance and confidence that both Mananga and Government and the Private Sector have in the
Master in Leadership and Change Management Programme..
―THE MANANGA EXPERIENCE‖
Annie, Agnes, Chrisensia and Leticia, have been to Mananga more than once.
After having been asked why they are back again; this is what they had to say
“ We had other options to look into other institutions for the programmes we
needed. We found that Mananga was relevant and costs effective in terms of the
entire experience we where looking to get.
The course content is worthy, appropriate and up-to-date. The facilitators are
qualified and possess good professional skills. The materials were well organized
“keep it up facilitators!!”
The social activities enabled us to visit local cultural places as well as interna-
tional tour to neighbouring countries. It was interesting and interactive as we got
the chance to meet a lot of people from different backgrounds.
We are grateful to our organizations for according us the opportunity to attend the
course and having a training budget for staff as well as recognizing the impor-
tance of training. “We are now better managers as we return back to our duties”.
In conclusion we have had an excellent Mananga Experience and hope to come
