Rebecca Vittetoe Extension Field Agronomist

Rebecca Vittetoe is a Field Agronomist with Iowa State University Extension and Out-reach. Growing up on her family’s farm in NW Iowa is where Vittetoe’s passion for agriculture stems from. She followed that passion and attended Iowa State University where she earned her B.S. in Agronomy and is currently working on her M.S. in Agronomy. Vittetoe joined ISUEO in 2015 and serves 10 counties in SE/South-Central Iowa. Prior to working for extension, Vittetoe was a produc-tion agronomist for DuPont Pioneer at a corn production plant. Her areas of expertise include agronomy and field crop production and management of corn, soybeans, forages, integrated pest management and crop scouting. With extension, Vittetoe organizes and assists with educational programs like Crop Advantage, Ag Chem Dealer Up-date, research farm field days, Begin-ning Farmer meetings, and Agronomy in the Field for women. In addition to helping provide educational programs, Vittetoe also has her hand in research. Research projects she’s involved with include a grazing cover crop project and a study looking at seedling diseases in corn.

Agronomy in the Field is a multi-session hands-on workshop for women designed to provide opportunities to learn more about crop production

practices, conservation practices and water quality impacts to help strengthen decision-making on the farm and to increase the comfort level when talking to land-owners, tenants, ag retailers, and farming partners. Sessions will be held

monthly during the 2018 growing season.

Street, which becomes 215th St. Turn south on Nuthatch Ave and then east on 220th St. for approximately 2 miles. We’ll be looking at fields on both sides of the road. Look for

signs along the way.

Food Preservation 101 - June 13th, Wed. At Keokuk County Extension Office at 5:00 pm Food Preservation 101 is a 90-minute overview of general food preservation principles.

The class includes current recommendations for canning, freezing and drying, display of

equipment and utensils and sources for safe and tested food preservation information.

The Iowa State University Keokuk County Extension Office will be hosting Food Preser-

vation 101 on Wednesday, June 13 from 5-6:30pm. The office is located at 400 220th

Moni Hayne's current garden, established 17 years ago, encompasses about three acres

including fruit trees, berries, perennial vegetables, annual vegetables, perennial flowers,

trees and shrubs, along with several eclectic plants. After decades of gardening and living

throughout the Midwest, she has dealt with four-legged critters of many kinds. In rural

Iowa, deer and rabbits are a gardener’s biggest challenge to keep at bay. There are many

tools of the trade to manage these garden pests, and some might work better for one

gardener or landscape than another. As a life-long gardener, Moni looks forward to shar-

ing what she's learned in hopes it will help you have a more productive garden and joy in

the process of building it

Gardening brings many joys and challenges. Join entomologist, Moni Hayne as she discusses mitigating pest problems in your garden.

Moni has been interested in insects since childhood, which led her to obtain both Bachelors and Masters degrees in entomology.

Once completing her masters work, Moni worked for an agricultural company which allowed her to develop more knowledge about

plant and insect interactions on a wide range of crops, ornamentals, turf, fruits and vegetables. In the last several years, she became

involved in bioblitzes, collecting photos for state websites, and other insect identification programs that have helped her expand her

knowledge of insects beyond the field crop pests. Free and Open to the Public.

Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training on April 12 Fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), and co-management of natural resources and food safety should plan to attend. The PSA Grower Training Course is one way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule re-quirement outlined in § 112.22(c) that requires “At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equiv-alent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.” Iowa State Extension and Outreach faculty and specialists will lead the course. The fee is $20 per farm for Iowa growers, and $120 for out of state growers.
