DIARY DATES

Wednesday 10th:

HUB Thursday 11th: Friday 12th

RDO Monday 8th: IMPORTANT DATES: Athletics Carnival Date to be Advised Pyjama day 1st July

Dear Parents, Carers and Community,

Welcome to Term 2, Week 7!

I hope everyone had a great long weekend.

Last Tuesday the students enjoyed making and eating Veggie and

Meatball Spaghetti for Healthy Lunches.

Last week the High School cooked Roti Curry Wraps for Thursday

Canteen and sadly that was the last time the school will be

running the canteen for now.

I believe last week Miss Johnstone took an excited 1-2 Class to

explore the Outback Adventure Farm and found pumpkins and

peppers which they split equally to take home.

At the moment teachers are busy writing reports and they will be

different this time. Our reports are in line with advice from the

NSW Department of Education, our school reports have been

adjusted to cater for students learning from school and at home.

This report will not grade student achievement using the A-E scale

for all outcomes. The teachers’ comments will focus on English

and mathematics as well as learning that students have

undertaken in other Key Leaning Areas.

I hope everyone is in training for the Athletics Carnival happening

at the end of term.

Melissa Ostler

RICARDO’S RECAP

WHAT HAS BEEN

HAPPENING AT SCHOOL

THIS WEEK !

Vegetable Loaded Meatballs & Spaghetti

Mrs Farrar, Nadia, Rilie, Jack, Jullian and

Cea-Anna, cooked a mouth-watering meal for

Healthy Lunches last week. They started by

collecting the ingredients and then

differentiating the food types. They then began

making the spaghetti sauce with mild chilli, onion,

beans, mushrooms and tomatoes!

They mixed it all together with the pasta and the

meatballs. It was SUPER delicious and healthy!

We are creating a winter wonderland in the library.

Jack Frost has been to call

Have you noticed him at all?

‘The Wonder Thing’ written by Libby

Hathorn.

What is the wonder thing…?

Powerful as rock

Gentle as kisses

Lovely as life is

A miracle thing.

This week we have 3 books:

‘The Little Eskimo’ written by David Cali

What will you be when you grow up? The Little Eskimo wants to know

if he’ll be a great hunter when he grows up and also what’s on the other

side of the lake. He starts out on a quest to find the answers but none of

the arctic animals can help him. Finally, a whale takes the brave little

boy to the one creature who knows all…..

‘The Third day, the Frost’ written by John Marsden

First there was Tomorrow, When the War Began, then came the Dead

of the Night. Now it’s the Third Day, The Frost and things can only get

worse...

Year 1 and 2 students have been working

super hard this Term, learning about different

speech sounds and how they are represented in

writing and used in reading and speaking. We made

jelly when we learnt about “j” and then

finger-painted with it after it was set.

Print impressions were taken of the

finger-painting.

In a recent Mathematics unit, Year 1 and 2 students engaged in a range

of tasks while learning about measurement.

Cea-Anna surveyed students and adults at school to discover their favourite drink on a hot day. She used

tally marks to record data and then used this information to measure volumes of liquid,

according to her survey results.

Jack has been using formal units when

measuring. Lionel helped him to

measure various distances around the school using metres.

Jack measured a range of objects, including his hand span

and the length of his fingers using centimetres.

Kyeanna’s volume and capacity tasks

included learning the “language” of this

Mathematics concept. She also explored

the concept of mass.

The last few weeks the years 3-6 students have got a glimpse into the work that goes on

behind the scenes at schools when it comes to organising events. An offhand suggestion by

Jada, “Miss we should have a pyjama day!” resulted in the students taking on the role of

organisers with support from their teachers. They initiated the process with a letter

persuading Mr Edwards that a Pyjama Day was in the best interest of the school and the staff.

Paperwork, Persuasion and Permission Notes

The students’ efforts were rewarded with a hand

delivered note from Mr Edwards, not only giving

them permission to host their event, but also

outlining all the paperwork and organisation that

would need to be completed before it could occur.

Rather than scare the students off, this

letter set them into motion, working as a

team to prepare letters, invitations,

guidelines and permission notes.

The students are now patiently waiting

on a reply from the P&C before they

finalise their arrangements and send out

the invitations. I look forward to seeing

the great day organised by the students

of the 3-6 class.

The secondary students

hosted a farewell

party for their

classmate,

Kyle Mitchell

on Friday afternoon.

Good luck, Kyle!

We will miss you!

Ivanhoe Central School would like to thank the team at the

Warakirri Correctional Centre for their support and

assistance of our many school events and projects

over the years.

Your contribution to our school is greatly appreciated and

we wish you all the best of luck on your new adventures.

There are many projects underway at our Outback Adventure Farm.

There are loads of winter veggies planted and some are even ready to

harvest! The students love that we grow our own food for use in our Healthy Lunches

program and we also are able to share some with our local community.

Mr Edwards has just acquired some ‘Chicken Tractors’ for our feathery

residents to nest in at night time. After the hens and their rooster are used to their

new home, they will then be allowed to range freely during the day.

Our grounds staff have been very busy digging trenches, with the help of

Mark Huntly, for the power and water supply to our Farm Kitchen which will be

assembled in the near future - stay tuned!

We have also been gifted some friendly ducks from the Warakirri

Correctional Centre—another great addition to our busy little farm!

Our students love that they’re able to learn different skills and grow and

harvest their very own produce.

Ella turns 10 today!

COMMUNITY ITEMS ITEMS FOR PUBLICATION

Items for publication in the school newsletter need to be submitted to the school (via email or in person) by 4pm Thursday, prior to

publication. This will ensure items are included in the next newsletter.

Phone - 02 6995 1108 Email - [email protected]

Due to large numbers of community advertisements coming into the school to be added to the newsletter, the cost is escalating. We would

like to continue to produce large and colourful copies but to make this possible we will need to charge a fee for each advertisement.

$5.00 for a one off or $20 for a month.

$20 a month or $5 per ad as a one off.

Community Notices are accepted in good faith and at the discretion

of the Principal.

Monday’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list included worthy recipient, Ann Vagg of Ivanhoe.

Ann was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (General Division).

Helen Catherine, Ann’s daughter, hosted a celebratory lunch on Monday, which also

doubled as a birthday party. Ann was 89 on Saturday, 6th June.

Congratulations Ann, on both achievements!
