News From the North

Welcome to Term Four

It was wonderful to see so many children wearing their hats outside at recess and lunchtimes during the first week back of Term Four.

There are however students without school hats. Could you please ensure that your child brings their hat back to school as our SunSmart policy requires all children to wear a hat during all outdoor activities at school.

If your child does not have a hat, they can be purchased from the office ranging in cost from $9.95 to $12.95.

Welcome back everyone and we hope that you had a wonderful holiday break. As usual, we have a jam packed term, full of exciting learning op-portunities for our students. Staff and children have begun the term with the usual rigor, settling back into lessons at a quick pace. As we enter the final term for the year, children will build on the knowledge that they have developed in the first three terms. Last Friday the first of an seven week fun AFL skills program began. It is an initiative of Melbourne Football Club to provide our Year 5 and 6 students with the opportunity to be exposed to the skills and drills required when playing AFL.

The first four weeks are for Year 5 classes and then the Year 6’s will have the same opportunity.

On Friday, Dylan took the children through a range of activities - beginning with student familiarisation with the oval shaped ball, followed by how to ef-fectively handball. Each week, children’s skills will develop, culminating in the final session where students will have the opportunity to play a game of foot-ball altogether.

The students had a great time and we thank Miss Fisher for organising these sessions for our children.

We must also thank the Melbourne and Casey Football Clubs for their gener-osity and willingness to provide our students free access to this program.

Special Awards

All children in Years 1 - 6 have the opportunity to utilise the Mathletics program at home. Children who have access to a computer and the internet can access this pro-gram at www.mathletics.com.au. Children have their own individual password and can complete tasks relevant to their educational development. They can improve their fast mathematical recall times by competing in a live mathematical game against other children all around the world.

This program is a fantastic way to improve your child’s Mathematics progress, while they enjoy the use of the computer and competing against other children from around the world.

The Mathletics password also allows the children to access the on-line program Rainforest Maths at www.rainforestmaths .com

Playground Delay

2020 Enrolments

We are currently in the process of organising grades and teaching staff for next year and it is very im-portant for us to know our enrolment numbers for 2020.

If you know that your child will not be attending Dandenong North next year, could you please write a letter informing the Off ice staff of your 2020 intentions or print off the slip below and either return it to your child’s classroom teacher or to the office staff as soon as possible.

We thank you in advance.

The best laid plans can often become unraveled due to unforeseen circumstances, which is what has occurred in relation to our new playground area.

During the term holidays, the landscapers and play-ground developers arrived and were able to lay the turf for the cricket pitch, as well as cementing in the new basketball/netball rings. However this is where the play-ground stopped.

Due to continued water seeping to the surface, the work-ers were unable to lay any synthetic turf. In response, they have now laid piping under the ground, which aims to take the water away from the surface, leaving it to dry out.

The landscapers will continue to monitor the surface of this play area throughout the next couple of weeks and once they feel it is ready, they will come in and begin laying the turf.

Fingers crossed for some sunny, dry weather over the next couple of weeks to assist in this process.

Gala Day Four Page 4

Last Friday was the first Gala Day for Term Four. There were three Osh Rounders teams, two boys and girls Kanga Cricket teams, two boys and girls soccer teams. Once again our children participated with sportsmanship and used the 4C’s at all times. Read below the highs and lows of all teams:

Cricket Boys - A Team

The first game was played against Dandenong South where a 50 run victory was had with the final scores being 142 runs to 92.

The second game was against Carwatha College and this was a trouncing by DNPS with the final scores leaving Carwatha defeated by 198 runs.

The third game was played against Dandenong Pri-mary School which was a much closer match, with DNPS only winning by 5 runs.

The final was to be played against Lyndale Greens and the boys were unfortunately short a player; however despite this, the final scores were 205 to 166 with Dandenong North winning through to the next stage of the competition to be held in a couple of weeks.

Cricket Boys - B Team.

This team was just as successful as Team A - with the boys being undefeated throughout the course of the day, including their finals match.

Well done to both teams!

Cricket Girls

The girls team advanced straight through to the fi-nals after beating Dandenong Primary School, Lyndale Greens Primary School and Dandenong South Primary School.

The final was played against St Gerards, and the girls again won this match.

Everyone on the team put in 100% effort and they will be advancing forward to play in the division finals of T20 Kanga Cricket.

What a wonderful performance from our Cricket girls!

Soccer Boys - A Team

The boys pushed hard through their matches. They were hard fought, with the boys losing the first game 3-2. The second match was an easy win of 7-1 and so was the last game - a comprehensive win with a score of 12 to 1.

Unfortunately after making it through to the final - the boys crashed out however they played their best.

Soccer Boys - B Team

These boys dispatched their three teams with ease, making it through to the finals.

This game was more challenging, however a late goal sent the DNPS boys home as winners.

A special mention to Taha (6D) and Hassan (6A) on their fabulous sportsmanship when interacting with students from other schools.

Congratulations to all of the boys who participat-ed - we are proud of your efforts!

Soccer Girls - A Team

It was a shock to play on the pitch as it was so much bigger than the girls imagined, losing their first match. However, the girls rallied in their sec-ond game winning 6 to 0! In the third game, con-fidence was high and the team work was electric. They girls won this game 5 goals to 1.

Heading into the semi finals the girls won 1 to 0 but unfortunately in the final game the girls lost 2 goals to 0.

Congratulations on this wonderful result girls.

Soccer Girls - B Team

These girls showed enthusiasm and spirit through-out all of the games they played.

Advancing through to the finals the girls won 3-0, making them the winners on the day.

Great work girls!

Osh Rounders A, B and C Teams

Our Osh Rounders teams are a mix of boys and girls. Our three teams won all of their games, with the A team winning the premiership.

Unfortunately the B and C teams had to play against each other in the finals - with our B team winning.

A fantastic effort by all students!
