We were lucky enough to have
some very special visitors to our
Monday morning assembly.
Six students from Dandenong
High School came to present at
assembly. These six children had
attended Dandenong North and all
graduated Year Six in 2007.
Fazan and Victoria are the School
Captains for Dandenong High,
whilst Monica, Jeremy, William
and Dexter have all been selected
as Captains of their respective
Houses.
These students are all part of the
current student leadership group at
Dandenong High and it was lovely
to see how much they have grown
educationally.
Fazan and Victoria spoke of how
every person can be a leader - it
doesn’t take a title like School
Captain to make someone a leader.
You might have a vision of creat-
ing or completing something and
you have to follow that dream -
lead yourself.
After presenting at
the whole school
assembly, these stu-
dents took the time
to speak to our cur-
rent Year 6 children
regarding their jour-
ney into Secondary
School next year.
All of the students spoke highly
of their time at our school and
how the school’s motto of the 4
C’s had helped guide them to
make the right choices and assist-
ing them in their journey through
life.
All of the students could not
speak highly enough of their time
at Dandenong North and how it is
important for students to make
their memories whilst at Primary
School, because they all miss be-
ing at DNPS!
We thank the students for their
visit and wish them all the very
best as they embark on their very
bright futures in the coming
years!

Dandenong High School Visitors
Josiah is a child who assists everyone whenever he
can and is the first to offer up his equipment to
those in need. Assisting the smaller children inside
on wet days or looking after a lost bag ,shows how
much Josiah cares about his peers.
We congratulate Josiah on his award and we are
sure that his Eyes, Ears, Hearts and Minds will al-
ways help to make whatever school he attends in
the future, a better place!
Eyes, Ears, Hearts and Minds Award At last weeks whole school assembly it was lovely
to see a student receiving the prestigious “Eyes,
Ears, Hearts and Minds” Award.
This award was created as part of our school Self
Esteem Program with the idea of presenting stu-
dents with a cloth badge as these children use their
Eyes, Ears, Hearts and Minds to make Dandenong
North a fantastic place to be.
Mrs Hilton presented Josiah with this award and
she gave a heartfelt speech that detailed why he
deserved this award.
She spoke of Josiah’s embarrassment at being
placed in front of the whole school as he is a par-
ticularly shy boy. She outlined what a dramatic
educational improvement that he had made, which
she has been lucky enough to have witnessed after
having him for one and a half years. From a child
who never completed homework tasks to the per-
son whose work is finished first within the class-
room.

Operation Smile Last Friday, the 26th of July 2013 the Year Three
students were lucky to have a visit from the volun-
teers at 'Operation Smile'. 'Operation Smile' is a
charity organisation run by volunteers who are all
student doctors. The organisation raises money and
awareness for a program that sends surgeons into
developing countries to perform surgeries on chil-
dren with cleft palates. The volunteers helped our
grade 3 students to make some very cute and col-
ourful puppets. The puppets will then be sent with
the surgeons to cheer up the children recovering
from their operations. Our students also wrote
'Get Well' cards to
accompany their
puppets. The stu-
dents in Year 3
thoroughly en-
joyed working
with the volun-
teers, and making
the puppets for a
good cause!
Mrs Slatter is a busy
lady! Not only does she
run a successful Prep
classroom, she also runs
a Knitting club at recess
twice a week.
Mrs Slatter is an accomplished knitter herself and
loves having the opportunity to impart this skill to
the children.
Some students have no experience with knitting
and they use a “Knitting Nancy” which assists them
to begin learning this skill.
Students then begin by knitting themselves a scarf.
At the moment, the more accomplished knitters are
knitting hats for the babies and children who are in
Dandenong Hospital.
Any students in Years 3 to 6 who are interested in
joining the knitting make your way to Mrs Slatter’s
room at recess on Monday or Tuesday and join in
the fun of knitting club!

Greater Dandenong Maths Games Day
The Greater Dandenong Maths Games Day was
held last Tuesday with the event at Keysborough
Primary School, being the largest Maths Games
Day held in Victoria. There were 18 competing
schools with an overall total of 40 teams compet-
ing.
Students work in teams to solve problems, com-
plete geo-shape activities, maths detective, strate-
gy games, what number am I and mental maths
problems.
Dandenong North took thirteen students to partic-
ipate in three teams to compete against over 160
students from the surrounding schools.
The highlight of the day was when Geenath (6L)
came first in his mental maths round! Geenath
was the quickest and most accurate student within
his group of 40 students, to answer
the six questions in a knock out for-
mat. He was awarded a gold medal-
lion from the Mathematical Associa-
tion of Victoria.
Stefina (6M) and Atif (6L) also re-
ceived $10 gift vouchers for their
correct answers in the section “What number am I?”
Dandenong North was placed fourth overall on the
day.
We are very proud of all of the children who attend-
ed the event.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr
Williamson for his fantastic work in preparing the
children for this competition.

Advertisement: We are always pleased to
celebrate student success at
Dandenong North as we
know that our school is full
of talented children.
In particular, as Ms Mac
will tell you, we have some
sensational artists.
One such artist is Anthony from 6V who was
recently offered The Gabrielle Blood Arts Schol-
arship to Lyndale Secondary College for 2014.
Anthony will be expected to demonstrate con-
sistent academic achievement and develop his
leadership skills throughout his time at Lyndale,
which we know Anthony will have no difficulty
in achieving!
His scholarship allows Anthony $300 to spend
on textbooks or uniform items per year every
year for the six years that he attends Lyndale
Secondary College.
We congratulate Anthony on this fantastic
achievement and wish him all the very best for
his future endeavours!

Student’s Work Page This term grade 1/2HS are very excited to be learning about Space. There are so many interesting facts
to learn and lots of ways to find them out. We have been researching on the internet using the Official
NASA Website, as well as using Encarta Kids.
We have found out some cool things about space, such as what gravity means and why the sun is so im-
portant.
We have also learnt about galaxies, asteroids, comets astronauts and simulation.
On Friday we designed our own aliens from outer space. Named them and described their crazy fea-
tures.
We have also created a star gazing tent outside the room where we look at stars whilst we camp and read
about the Universe.
