We will also continue to be a school that makes differences ordinary. We have a diverse student population, and we want all students to feel great about what they can do. The book talks about the invisible bucket that we all have. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When it is empty, we feel awful. Yet most children (and many adults) do not realize the importance of having a full bucket throughout the day. We hope to have a school full of children and adults with full buckets. Welcome back, Edgewood! A particularly warm welcome to our new

students and families. We know you’re going to like it here!

It’s been a busy summer, both inside our walls and out. While the administration, teachers and staff has been readying the school for students, the PTO has been busy plotting our calendar of events and ramping up for another exciting year.

As of press time, our new kindergarten playground has arrived but has yet to be installed. We hope that by the time you are read this, our youngest students will be enjoying some of the fruits of our labor. Our goal is to hold the ribbon-cutting at the Back to School Picnic – we’ll see if we make it! Speaking of which…

Our second annual Back to School Picnic is scheduled for Friday, September 24 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Come for family fun including music, clowns and lots of food for sale to benefit the 5th grade. It’s a great way to reconnect with Edgewood friends and other families after a busy summer!

Our first PTO meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 22 at 9:30 AM in the cafeteria. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you there!

Finally, the PTO welcomes volunteers to help with various projects both in school and at home. If you’d like to get involved in any capacity and for any length of time, feel free to reach out to anyone on the Executive Board. Our contact information is always in the newsletter and online on the PTO website. We’d love to have you aboard.

Here’s to a happy, healthy and successful new year. See you at

school! Patty Bearce and Mariann Matarese PTO Co-Presidents

Co-presidentsLooking for a way to get involved? The PTO still has some open com-mittee positions. If you would like to get more involved, check out these opportunities:

Science Fair Co-Chair We are looking for someone to help our current Committee person or-ganize our Science Fair on February 24th. After co-chairing the event this year, we would like this person to run the Science Fair next year.

Guy & Gal or Gal & Pal We would like to start alternating these events every year. We will plan on holding whatever event we get a committee person for this year. Guy & Gal has typically been a sports themed night and Gal & Pal has been a dance. Here’s your opportunity to pick a theme and be creative.

If you are interested in one of these positions or would like more infor-mation, please contact Patty Bearce at [email protected].

Get on Board!IMPORTANT: The PTO’s primary means of communication will be the Edgewood website and email group.

If you are not currently a mem-ber of the Edgewood PTO email group, please join so you will not miss another announcement. To subscribe to Edgewood’s PTO mail-ing list, send a blank email to [email protected].

Please plan ahead so that students have every opportunity to perform at their best.

Dress Appropriately for School Please remember to refer to page 6 of the Student Conduct Policy for specific information on the dress code. Some items to remember are no flip-flops, tank tops, short shorts/skirts, or any clothing that exposes the midriff. No open-backed shoes are permitted for safety reasons. Students participate in recess daily. Shoes must be safe. Students not adhering to the dress code will be asked to call home for a change of clothes, or visit the nurse for something more ap-propriate to wear. Your help and cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.

Morning Modular Drop-off Please remember that the morning drop-off area by the modulars is a DrOP OFF AREA ONLY. Please do not pull to the side or pull into a parking space by the modulars. This is creating unsafe congestion and slowing down the morn-ing arrival. If you need to drop something off, or write that last minute note, please park on Oxford Valley road so that morning traffic can flow smoothly. Thank you for your help in keeping all students safe as they arrive to school.

Arrive to School on TimePlease remember that school begins at 9:00. Many of our busses arrive by 8:45. We encourage all parents to use the bus whenever possible. Not only will your child be ready for the start of the day, but you will also be helping the environment. Teachers utilize this time for morning work and organizational time to prepare students for the start of the day. Students arriving past 9:00 will be considered tardy. You must sign your child in at the main office if your child is late for school. Morning announcement begin at 9:00 with instruction starting right after that. If your child is late for school they might be missing math, reading, or writing instruction. Your help and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Reminder Please remember that no Rolling Backpacks are permitted at Edgewood due to safety concerns. Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

No rolliNg backpacks

Don’t Miss the Fall Book Fair October 4-8

Mark your calendars for the Edgewood Fall Book Fair, scheduled for October 4-8, 2010. Students will visit the Book Fair during the week with their class. We will also hold two family nights on Tuesday, October 5 and Thursday, October 7 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. We will have a large selection of books and other items on hand for our students, parents and teachers. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a book for your child’s classroom from the teachers’ wish lists. This is a terrific way to support our school and get our kids ex-citing about reading!

A suc-cessful book fair depends on volunteers like you! We hope you will consider helping us with this fun and rewarding event. We espe-cially need volunteers for the family night events. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Shawna Curran at [email protected].

Market Day, a fundraising food program, continues at Edgewood! Market Day, the original fundraising food co-op, has been in opera-tion since 1975 and has grown to include thousands of schools just like ours.

Each month, as a participating Market Day school, restaurant-quality food products, from the same vendors that supply many upscale restaurants, will be available for purchase. Market Day prod-ucts are competitively priced and Edgewood earns profit on your purchases.

We can earn this money without our children going door-to-door, without purchasing products we wouldn’t ordinarily purchase, and with the knowledge that all products are of exceptional quality and covered by a Satisfaction Guarantee!

The order sheet will be coming home once a month with your child/ren.

Please take a few minutes to review it and place an order. We are confident that this fundraising program will not only benefit Edgewood and the programs we support, but will also benefit you as the customer.

You can find out more about Market Day and even place your order online at www.marketday.com. Register your e-mail address to receive reminders to order and special offers for online custom-ers. Our Market Day account number is 22817. register today for a chance to win an Apple® iPad™ and other great prizes by going to www.marketday.com/connect.

Some new items for September include lasagna with meat sauce, peanut free chocolate chip cookies, double chocolate fuel bars, and naked broccoli and cheese stuffed chicken.

Please give Market Day a try! If you have any questions reach out to Laurie Furiness the parent coordinator for Edgewood. Laurie can be reached at [email protected] or 215.321.5789. THANKS!
