News From the Eagle’s Nest
Principal Corner
Dear Jupiter Families,
This holiday season, the best gift
you can give your child is a
good education. And the best
place to get an education is in
school. It’s tempting to extend
your vacation by a few days, but
remember, those days count as
absences. Just a few missed
days here and there, even if
they’re excused absences, can
add up to too much lost learning
time. So make sure your child is in
school every day, right up until
vacation starts. Our teachers will
be teaching,
and our
students will be
learning.

The GSP students participated in
the Adopt-a-Mangrove program
from Restore our Shore/Brevard
Zoo. Each student got to plant a
Red Mangrove propagule and will
be taking care of their baby
mangrove all year. The
conservation department at the
zoo will be planting the mangroves
once they are mature enough for
transplanting. This program, along
with the Oyster Reef formation,
is one small thing that can be done
to restore the Indian River Lagoon.

Have you ever
wondered how you
can help your child be
the best reader they
can be? The simplicity
of the answer may surprise you.
Countless research studies show that
reading is the best way to become a
better reader. Just read!
Jupiter students have access to
thousands of books through myon.com

Science
This month has been a very busy month for students in the world of Science.
Third Grade students have been working on group Science projects in order to get an understanding of the Scientific Method and better help prepare them for doing individual project in 4th, 5th and 6th grade.
In preparation for Fourth Grade's Indian River Lagoon trip we studied acceptable levels of Ph/acid in order to organisms to survive and how we affect our watershed.
Fifth Grade students have been working on understanding how the digestive system works as we discover the body systems.
Sixth Grade students discovered Mars before their field trip to the Kennedy Space Center.
Science Fair
Judging for the Jupiter Science Fair for 4th-6th Grade students will be held Friday, December 7th. The first place winners for each grade level in each of the three categories (Physical, Environmental and Biological) will go to the district level in March.
*****5th Grade State Standard Assessment in Science (SSA)*****
Our 5th grade students are working hard to prepare for their State Standard Assessment (SSA) in Science. Information on this assessment including vocabulary needing to know and resources available to students online went home with report cards. Students should be studying on a daily basis for this assessment. The outcome of this helps determine courses students will be eligible to study in secondary school.
Science Night
Jupiter will be holding a Science Night on Thursday, January 31, 2019. More information forthcoming on this fun filled evening. The event will be open to all students and their families.
