MISSION SUPPORT ENDOWMENT

Saturday/Sunday, April 28/29 – Special door offering for the Ken and Val Hennings Mission Support Endowment Rev. Ken Hennings is retiring as our District President after 12 years of faithful service. As a tribute to President Hennings, Texas District churches have been asked to take a

special collection for an endowment fund established in his name. The endowment will help fund new ministries in Texas (new church plants, for example). Offering plates will be available in the back of the Worship Center as you depart worship. We'll also have notecards and pens in the lobby for anyone who would like to write a note to President Hennings. At the District convention in June, which Pastor Chris is registered to attend, the amount raised will be announced and cards will be presented.

2018 RITE OF CONFIRMATION

This weekend (April 27-28), students are attending the Confirmation Retreat at Camp Eagle. Prayers lifted for a safe journey.

The 2018 Rite of Confirmation is Sunday, May 6, 2018 during the 10:45 a.m. service. Faith Stories will be shared during

the Adult Bible Class at 9:30 a.m. in the gym.

ALAMO HILLS CHURCH - WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Last weekend we celebrated the first public worship ser-vice of our daughter congregation, Alamo Hills Church! Nearly 100 people gathered

for the first service at Casa Blanca Santikos Theater at Alamo Ranch Parkway and 1604. Some of you asked why the word "Lutheran" doesn't appear in the name. We're following a model that has worked well in our LCMS Texas District, par-ticularly with the ACTS church network in Austin. This model doesn't include Lutheran in the name, although it's a thor-oughly Lutheran ministry. Alamo Hills Church teaches LCMS doctrine, follows our Baptism and Communion practices, oper-ates under District accountability, etc. It's as Lutheran as Shep-herd of the Hills is. The rationale for not including Lutheran in the name is that in reaching out to our target audience of unchurched and dechurched, the denominational name can cause some to exclude themselves. "I'm not Lutheran, so I'm not going to go there." Once we get them in the door, what they receive is 100 percent Lutheran - grace alone, faith alone, Scripture alone - and all the other essentials of being an LCMS church.
